Vol.1 0:38 this will be the day(opener) 3:40 red like roses 6:53 mirror mirror part 1 9:45 from shadows(trailer version) 14:23 i burn(trailer version) 20:02 gold 24:05 i burn(full song) 27:17 i may fall(shows up in vol.3 when velvet does her weapon reveal) 31:10 red like roses part to(convo between ruby and summer sung by Casey and her mother) 35:21 wings(think this was turned into a tribute to Monty after his passing in vol.3)
"Wings" is usually considered a song about Blake during the final events of V1. The song was adopted by the fans as a tribute to Monty, because the soundtrack for V1 had dropped a few months before his death. The "official" tributes to Monty are generally considered to be Cold (V3 OST) and Indomitable (V6 OST), although the bridge in Lets Just Live (V4 OST) can also be interpreted to refer to either Pyrrha and/or Monty.
@@AshSmashReacts It is not an "official" tribute to Monty, as it was written before his passing. But at the time Monty passed (Feb. 2015) the V1 OST was the only soundtrack that had been released. Monty's passing was a shock to everyone because of its unexpectedness. Probably because of some of the lyrics and probably because it is a relatively slow, somber song, many fans adopted Wings unofficially as a tribute to Monty.
Thing about Red Like Roses Part 2 is that it heavily implies that summer didn't want Ruby to be a Huntress "Baby please don't do what I did, I don't want you to waste your life in vain"
3 years late so he's caught up. I think that line + "this bed time ends with misery after" is referencing how summer tried to kill Salem only to fail, since she can't be killed. "Don't do what I did" = try to 1v1 an immortal.
One of my favourite lines is " like the smell of a rose on a summer's day" from gold because despite at this point in the show we didn't know about Ruby's mom summer but its clear in hindsight that line refers to how yang looks after and cares for Ruby like a mother since summer's death
Yeah, they've been foreshadowing a LOT, even from the beginning. 'This world's unforgiving, even brilliant lights will cease to burn'. Pyrrha's death was hinted at way back in the Volume 1...
@@Badger77722 Fourthed. _(With the additional info that Flynt gets his lyrics straight from Alex Abraham/Jeff Williams, so there's less chance of the typos that even Eric noticed here. And in some cases, a "small" typo can completely change the meaning of a line or even the entire song.)_
@@emperordaniel9595 At least for V7 (and probably onwards) Sirs And Madams Entertainment also gets music and lyrics directly from Jeff Williams. I recommend their OST reviews, you usually learn something and they're always a hoot!
Just in case it hasn't been mentioned yet, all the RWBY music is done by Jeff Williams, his daughter Casey Lee, and Alex Abraham who does the score. Jeff does the male vocals and is responsible for all the instrumentation, mixing, and production on most of the songs. Casey does all the female vocals except for the Summer part in Red like Roses pt. 2, which is her mother. She was only around 14 for the recording of the first soundtrack, and it's really cool to hear her progression and changes through the soundtracks as she grows up. The rap parts are all Lamar Hall, and I agree that the I Burn one isn't my favorite, but there's a song on the volume 5 soundtrack called Ignite that is essentially I Burn upgraded where I think he does a much better one.
You seem to be thinking that every song on the OST is always used in the show. That's not the case. While some songs are used in the show (at least very shortened versions of them), some are just used for a few seconds during the episode outros, and some aren't used at all. However, Alex Abraham (who does most of the scores) will incorporate small pieces of songs into the score when appropriate, so most song melodies make an appearance in some way in the show, although you need to be familiar with the songs to catch them.
Yay! I was wondering if you'd do the soundtracks. There's a lot of cool foreshadowing and character details in these, plus they're just really good tracks. Casey has such a beautiful voice and it's weird to think she was like 14 when she sang this. -This Will Be the Day - Volume 1 OP and pretty solid. Great introduction to the world and to the threats in the shadows. -Red Like Roses - Red Trailer track. Mostly instrumental and this is the first time we see Ruby visiting her mother's grave before she slaughters a bunch of Beowolves. Also foreshadowing the other three girls. That guitar tho. -Mirror Mirror - White Trailer track. Mostly a nice insight into Weiss. Love that piano. -From Shadows - Black trailer track. Really hints at the fact that her and Adam are Faunus, what Faunus have been through, and how they plan to fix it. What you watched was the short version. Probably should check out the extended/actual version in your own time. FlyntofRwby has an excellent lyric video for it. Also, hey, Jeff (Casey's dad and song writer for the show) is on this track with Casey. Jeff tends to do most, if not all, the male vocals in this show. - I Burn (trailer remix) - Yellow trailer track. This is unfortunately, again, the trailer remix and not the full song. The only part of this that is actually Yang's song is at the very end. Still fun to tie in all the other tracks. -Gold - Appeared in the the credits of episode three I believe. A song from Yang to Ruby. The line "like the smell of a rose on a summer's day" implying that Yang tried to emulate Summer when she had to look after Ruby, seeing as she had to take care of her sister. - I Burn (full version) --- Yang's anthem. Yang can and will kick your ass and you'll thank her. Also the first introduction to Lamar Hall, the rapping legend. What you listen to was apparently the explicit version that isn't even sold anymore I don't think. Jeff wrote it before he knew what audience the show was aiming for. - I May Fall - Appeared in the episode 4 credits. Pretty self explanatory, foreshadowing and a banger. - Red Like Roses II - This played during the fight scene against the Nevermore and Deathstalker in episode 8. And the first and only appearance (thus far) of Casey's real mother Sandy singing the Summer parts. Man, this family is talented. And while this song is obviously Ruby and Summer, could also apply to Yang seeing as Summer was her mom too and raised her for the first five/six years of her life. Banger. - Wings - Volume 1 final episode end credits. Yang to Blake song. Some people think Weiss to Blake or all of Team Rwby to Blake (which is valid) but given some motifs and future things I'm inclined to say it's Yang to Blake. But again, my opinion. Nice slow ballad just telling Blake that it's going to be okay and that she's not alone. Really excited to see you react to future volume soundtracks.
Yang volume 2: "I think she was too young to understand" talking about their moms death/disappearance. Me awkwardly clear my throat saying: Here Yang barrow my Amazon music app for 5 minutes
8 Volumes, (at the moment you posted this video volume 8 just finished a day before) 8 soundtracks, docents of song, and still, Red like Roses part 2 makes me cry every time, you know what is more interesting about it? We already know Casey and her dad makes the music and the singing, but in this particularly her MOM sing the Summer Rose part, so it is really a mother / daughter song, both in the OST and IRL so is so amazing to me at least, thank you for sharing this, cant wait for volume 5 and the rrest of the OST reactions, ps: the whole mirror mirror songs (all Weiss´s songs) are one of my fav "stories" and char development resume, even tho i relate more to Blake, Weiss is my favorite character.
There is a pg version of I Burn on the actual soundtrack. Btw like a fever i will take you down is a great lyric. The song is called i burn. Think about it.....I'm glad you decided to check out the soundtracks. You will definitely have a different and better experience watching future episodes. You will hear many of these songs as instrumentals in background music being played in certain scenes, and you will definitely learnmore about the lore and the characters too....oh and RWBY has the best soundtracks of any show as well.
The thing you have to bear in mind with "I Burn" is that it's a Yang song... It's kinda cheesy and cringey, but that's Yang's personality lol I don't mind and understand if you don't want to listen to it, but I'd argue that the lyrics and rap are great because they fit what the song is aiming for... But I also get what you mean.
I hope you revisit From Shadows and listen to the full version of the song. What you heard was the trailer version and it makes me sad every time I see people only reacting to the rearranged trailer version.
OMFG YES!!!! Been loving your reacions (even though i have to catch up on your Volume 4 ones) and this was a really nice surprise!! Looking forward to the next ones!! ^^
25:31 "Does that mean DragonBall Z canonically is in the RWBY universe?" Well, we already know FullMetal Alchemist exists in the RWBY universe... There's a comic book Ruby is looking at in the first episode. It has Truth on it, on an all white comic book like the portal of truth and even has The Truth character on the front from FMA.
Looking up the lyrics on the wiki may be a better option since these videos can get some of the lyrics wrong and the wiki is made by the collective efforts of the fandom
Just too bad RT doesn't care much for developing Ruby, or backing up what's foreshadowed in the music at all. I'd say that RT just doesn't really care in general.
The music this early in the series gave a clue to the tone the series would take later on.

@Boston Houston yea, I have been using Flixzone for years myself :D

There is a full version of From Shadow btw. This ond was still the trailer version.
Agree their some part of the lyrics you might not heard of from shadows
FlyntofRWBY actually makes really good and accurate lyric videos for the songs and I’d recommend them
Yeah, they've been foreshadowing a LOT, even from the beginning. 'This world's unforgiving, even brilliant lights will cease to burn'. Pyrrha's death was hinted at way back in the Volume 1...
Huh, I always took that as a foreshadow to the Fall of Beacon more than anything, as a beacon is a kind of light, but your interpretation works too.
I recommend using FlyntofRwby videos for the soundtrack reactions
I second that
I third that
Agreed. Once you're into V2, he's got lyric videos for everything until you get to V7(?).
