    I wish John would talk more during his liveshows like he did back when he was younger. He's just such a cool guy that id pay to hear him talk, be it about random stuff like his pedals or smething deep like his take on music etc.

    John Frusciante has a huge pedal board and does an amazing job of knowing when to use them or go clean. It's all preference and style.

      You technically just need a Reverb and an overdrive and a distortion also add a loop ya know what add a delay a wah pedal also you never know you might use it one day also add a synthesiser cuz it does cool sounds also add a booster and multiply that by 10 cuz not all pedals sound the same and you need different versions of the same effect.

    It’s how you use them and what they give you. As his example showed, the pedal gave a sound, sound lead to an idea and that became a song.

    Referenced pedal is neunaber wet (/expanse/slate)

    Captian Anderton posted a picture he got from Danish Pete (Peter Honoré) of John Mayer rig from his "The Search For Everything" tour and you can see that its clearly a Neunaber Slate which has been rebranded/renamed by Neunaber, now called the EXPANSE.
    The Slate can be programmed to be many modulation effects. John's pedal is most likely programmed as one of the following:
    Wet Reverb Seraphim Shimmer Reverb (Wet, hall, plate, spring, modulated) Shimmer
    A good guess is that its one of the presets from the other Neunaber reverb pedal: IMMERSE REVERBERATOR

    Some songs in continuum where inspired by his roger lin adrenalyn.And for "inspired" I mean pure presets rock. Now thats a more than 120 dollars pedal, but it´s magic.
    Pedals are an option. Musicians develop his skills, style and color. Pedals help mostly in that last stage (wich is not a chronological order thin). But is not just about the pedal, it is just a tool. Picasso used blue, and also Van Gogh, but, nobody says "oh, whell, picasso used blue, that´s an easy choice" Tom Morello is a pedal insane, as the edge, and the first rage again the machine record was done with a 50 bucks guitar and a 15 wats amp. But, that was in the line of a band that´s called "again the machine" I think.

      I used to have the very same addiction (to distortion pedals particularly) but ever since I got myself a Sinvertek No.5 Distortion and an MXR 5150 Overdrive, I'm all set. Don't need another distortion pedal ever - I've gone close to three years without buying a new distortion pedal, so I'm pretty much "cured" now.
      Delay pedals however, wow... Don't get me started!

  • @BookClubDisaster
    @BookClubDisaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Adding pedals is like a tasty marinated steak. Nothing wrong with it. The biggest error most guitar players make is obsessing over gear instead of obsessing over improving. They worry too much about whether their guitar is worthy of them instead of worrying whether they are worthy of their guitar. As a result, there are to many players with Custom Shop guitars with Squier and Epiphone level skills.

      He played the Mateus Asato Suhr Sig for a while in some videos and his Fenders and Charvel’s and evens. Jackson with Ed Sherran, but I think Paul Reed Smith realized he was paying John a lot of money to be his flagship artist and he wasn’t even using his guitars and now he always uses them. I don’t think John would play PRS guitars if he didn’t have an endorsement deal and a $5,999.99 PRS amp with his name on it. I love PRS amp’s but that one is crazy over priced. The other PRS amps are reasonably priced. I own a Sonzera and it’s awesome. But John played Martin’s and Fender Strats for the majority of his career because they fit his style. Fender didn’t want to change the design and colors for John and PRS capitalized on the opportunity to scoop John up.

      I think it’s a Strymon El Capistan or a Volante. He uses Way Huge for Delay but for Reverb he uses the El Capistan and the Volante from what I’ve seen on his boards. Wel, he just said $120.00, so it could be an EHX Holy Grail or an MXR Reverb with the Pad and Epic setting. I too have a pedal problem lol I sold most of them, portably like 88 of them but still have plenty I should sell lol

    • @jordandangelo180
      @jordandangelo180 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And the more I think about it, I don’t think he has any $120 reverb pedals from all the pics of his board I’ve seen. I know he used a Pete Cornish NG-2 Fuzz on his version of Clapton’s take on Crossroads. He talks about it in the lesson video he did years ago. That’s a $750 pedal, or more on Reverb.

      The whole point here being that no ‘value’ judgement of any musician is warranted. Whatever gets them doing their own best music is what music is ALL about. Buy pedals, don’t buy pedals, own an expensive guitar...or not, come from the USA, Australia, or Sulawesi...I don’t mind, none of us should. Just thank you for your music Musos - its the language of the Universe.

      I always find the idea of criticising someone’s creative output by comparing it someone else’s approach strange. It’s a bit like going up to a brilliant painter and saying another painter is better than you because he only ever uses the colour green!

    So, you see, $200-$300 seems like a deal when you consider that the pedal companies could instead have asked him for royalties against any hit songs made with the pedals.

      I think at one point he used to be, but here he's merely stating in a funny way that the pedal essentially made him all that money. It was all in the reverb. I think that's rather humble.

    • @Petanifer
      @Petanifer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya gotta have some buffered pedals at the beginning and end of the chain. Only care about true bypass if it starts to mess with certain effects like fuzz, etc... I think buffered bypass is almost always better. The “true bypass” elitists don’t understand what a buffer is. Every pedal is buffered when it’s on. I haven’t heard a buffer make my board sound bad. But the lack of a buffer has removed all clarity from my tone.
