Ah it must be that Yautja are just as civilized as humans but their appearances made them scary. After predator, they went from scary to scary but a cool way. Thats why the feral predator didnt kill the staff, he was picked as the next predator and his looks made everything look more impressive

The man in the costume described the costume as a horrible experience, he barely can see due to all the animatronic parts in the mask alone that controls the mandibles and mouth opening, blinking of the eyes, etc. Plus it was extremely hot inside the suit
Im sure they could have made a mask that had mechanics routed better, but id bet time restraints made it hard to even try and redesign a better layout.

It’s crazy how a movie from 1987 can’t be topped. The makeup and design in the first film was incredible, and none of the other predator films have come close to it. They’ve all messed something up (usually the eyes and mandibles).
Jungle and City were great, AVP were good but i agree the mandibles kinda got big for my taste. then Predators came and brought in one of the dumbest designs with gigantic fucking mandibles. Ultimate predator looks like a damn gyrados. and this design is terrible as well. I forget the guy who designed the predator but they should have used his other predator concept designs for these new types of predators. they all were different yet looked similar enough to be the same species but different race.
It's cause they constantly sculpt the mandibles in the open and screaming position, so they always ended up lookin all flappy and flacid in the mouth region. They were also never played by a big guy again, so the heads were really comically big. This new design went full "who cares, rule of cool", and it still managed to maintain more functional intelligence than some of those later iterations on the classic. Nothing covers his gums, but his mandables and cheeks aren't limp, however his design doesn't physically allow the true mandible click, he just kinda gurgles.

The mandibles they where always closed on the original one he only open them when he screamed or roared at Arnold but it was always closed mandibles which made him look like a crab 🦀 spider it was creepy looking
They used cgi instead of the practical effects was because, 1, the actor couldn’t hear any thing when the mandible motors were turned on and the actor could only see through two slits in the neck which meant that while you see the fake face looking forward the actor in the suit was looking downward which meant he couldn’t see anything in front of him so he had to be guided by sticks on the ground.
No they combined the practical mask with CGI. You think you build a mass that detailed only for you to not use it. No he wore the mask on the set for things like close ups and added layers of CGI to make it look more fluid. And then during full body shots it would be fully cgi While you are right and the motors were very annoying and he could barely see he still used the mask.

If you knew how filmmaking goes. Often practical effects are touched up by cgi. It’s actually not that common for things to be 100% cgi. There’s a lot of practical effects that go into filmmaking.

This is the "Corky" of predators. Much less evolved for some unknown reason. It's not because of the 300 year old time jump because in AVP, the predators from the Aztec were shown about 200 years before the events in PREY.

It's very hard to see in those types of masks, which can make their performances very limited. It's better that they stuck with cgi, or different outfits, even though it is badass.
Man I love the design. The bone structure and mandibles was a warm invite in terms of changing things up a bit. With the majority of fans like myself being used to the more original design the "horror" was waning. This is horror. Absolutely beautiful horror. The only thing that could have made it any more scary was if they kept the action in a more darker/ nighttime setting and never leaked his design until that one moment in the film itself. Cant wait to see where they go from here but considering this was one if the older preditors it could have just been more of a lesser evolved profile. Imagine what their ancestors look like...
Used to work at this haunt and one of the other actors made his own predator costume from scratch and it looks better than 90 percent of the predators in the movies, fully practical and have full movement range, the mouth works and he has a mask that connects to the head as well.
The design of this predator is perfect, the mouth is extremely yautja like, there aren't too much armor like with the fugitive, we can see that he's from a different yautja race, him being thiner, his facial structure different but not over the top, unlike the super predator. I love this design, they made a good job.

Although I appreciate the movie not ending with the girl killing the predator in hand-to-hand combat which would have been ridiculous, I still believe that any half competent Yautja should've seen right through her trap. In Dutch's case the predator fell for his trap because he left his guard down after discovering the first trap. I think the writers could've come up with a better twist at the end instead of copying the original ending. I still think this is number 2 in in the series.

I think the writers could've come up with a better twist at the end instead of copying the original ending. I still think this is number 2 in in the series.
