Almost professional you say? Doug, you have been doing carpentry work for years now, and I think you are more than qualified to be a professional. And I'm not joking when I say that just so you know. I sincerely mean every word of it. It's going to look so nice once you get the roof put on it. You will be happy once you see the finished product.

For those of you worried so much about their personal lives and Family, i think perhaps look at your comments to kinda get a clue as to why. While i believe most is with good intentions and genuine concern for family, read the room. Its gotta be super weird, intrusive, smothering, and overwhelming. Asking pesonal questions, making assumptions, and the like is probably not helpful. Then, couple that with some pretty bad behavior in the comments as of late, I can totally understand the need to step away. Some need more time than others. If I had to guess, I imagine Doug himself may not necessarily want to be back on camera right now either. However, the incessant worry, no matter how good-natured, seems to require and to demand some sort of answers or presence which is again, super weird. Not to mention, I would say as happens quite often, unfortunately, there are a lot of creeps that hang out in TH-cam comments and obsess over channels sometimes in strikingly weird ways too. Just take it at face value. If Doug is on, great if Evie is on, That's good too. But trying to read too much into the meta information beyond just the content is quite rude IMO and not helpful in any way. 2 cent spent.

You are leaving quite a legacy for your kids.

Absolutely it's professional, and even better than most!! I've seen a lot of messed up work done by "professionals", and even had to hire a different one to fix what the previous one did. I saved up for months to get what I needed done, and had to take out a loan to hire the second one. Because the repairs had to be done quickly, since it was in worse shape than it originally was. You and Eevee are awesome and I love how ya'll think outside the box!! Your individual talents are really amazing!! Sending Lots of Love and Bunches of Hugs to you both and the kiddos!! ❤❤❤❤

THIS!! this could've been written by me. every "expert" i've hired since i've moved to this lovely small town i'm in, and into my 90 year old brick home, has made the problems worse!! i have re pointed the side of my house by myself because the company botched it so badly, even had them come out to do it right, i could no longer afford to hire another company. i didn't trust them to ever do it right. so i learned and did it slowly myself. the encapsulation in the basement has only ruined my foundation walls as they are made from local river bed (like adobe) and need to breath. "professionals" only know how to deal with concrete or cinder block foundations. i am now re rendering with lime mortar...i LOVE watching their outside the box thinking and have learned so much on how to deal with my house from Doug and Evee. (the asides he makes about protecting wood, what pieces should or shouldn't touch, what creative safe ways you can re wire, how to use different tools, how to mitre cut...the list goes on)

This is an amazing recovery. I figured you would need to find a friend who is good at welding and new square tube steel. You are actually bringing it back better than it was in the first place.

That is looking very impressive. I knew you could do it and I suggested framing it with wood instead of metal. Very nice job.

I really enjoy these projects, having these various problem-solving techniques as reference, prove to be useful in my own occasional endeavors, plus I very much enjoyed the broadcast TV program "this old house" as youth, now I get enjoy DIY Doug on the utubes👍

Trying to think of a perfect word to describe you, guess i will just say "AMAZING" your work is always performed to perfection, your balance, i dont even know how to decribe it, perfect, you walk better on a top of a wall or beam, than most can walk on the flat surface of a floor. Your cutting skills are perfection, i do agree with a previous follower, please be careful, so dangerous. Great video, wonderful craftsmanship! I know my choice of words are not the best, but you get what i am trying to say you are AMAZING! At least this subscriber thinks so! Tell Eevie & kids hello & i miss them, i did enjoy the quick peek of Maverick 😊❤❤
