I need help my refrigerator stopped working (very old) but had ice maker I shut off the valve which some reason was connected to the water heater (cold water in) Idk what else to do it's still leaking 😭
I have watched hundreds of these "plumb your fridge" tutorials, and this is by far the most informative yet still brief and to the point I seriously cannot fault it really GREAT content. I'm going to attempt this myself following your tutorial will let u know how I go. 🤞
Thank you! Thank you! You, made the process, look easier, then I thought & I am 60 yrs old & I know, I can do it, w/ your video. You, saved me a bundle, calling the plumber! 🎉🎉❤❤
TY soo much!! I did it by myself at 60 yrs old!! First timer! Saved $200 plus!! TY soo much! Once I got all the holes drilled, it was smooth sailing!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Perfect! I am installing new cabinets and moving my fridge. My contractor wanted to hire a plumber to move the water line 2 or 3 feet from the sink to the fridge. I can now do that for the price of the tubing from this video. GREAT JOB!! Saved me $1000!! Good lord what was my contractor thinking!
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. This is exactly the problem I had with the refrigetaor being on the other side of the room, took me about 2 hours and I used everything you used including the stainless steel hose. Wasn't quite as hard as I tought it would be.
Helpful video. I didn't read through all of the comments, but the one drawback to this fitting is no independent shut off for the ice maker/water line. There are fittings available that give you that feature.
wow i almost went the route with piercing my copper line in my basement without any plumbing experience or tools... this is so much simpler thanks diy dad. phew
Excellent video! I'm in the process of buying a house and I want a fancy fridge there's no water line. So glad I found this video. Thanks for sharing!!
Best video on doing this I have seen yet. Just had a plumber leave my house today and refused to do this. Don’t know why. But he did say I could do it myself easily and explained it the way u demonstrated. Maybe because licensed plumbers are not allowed to do it this way. Lol..I am going to try it. Thank you so much for making this video.
Thanks for the video, live in a cinder block home in Florida, water lines in the concrete floor, planning a kitchen remodel, moving frig down 10' had no idea I could run it through the cabinets.
Thanks dad! Looks easier than I thought it would be. Been putting it off for months in our kitchen Reno. I have to go over a doorway, so luckily all of the trim is off right now because we're replacing it. Have to go through a small section of wall near the door - looks like I might have to make clever use of a coat hanger.
Great! Thank you. I am just going to run a line from the kitchen sink at my spa to the foot bath for the clients ionic foot detox. Now I just have to figure out what nozzle I can put at the end of that house so that I can spray it when I want to.
Thanks For the Video .... I previously had a Copper set up that was giving me hell . I came across your video , already had a braided water line ... Ran to the hardware store and grabbed the fitting . 20 mins later , I have water coming from my fridge 🤘🏾
This is the best video on this topic I've seen. I wonder if it's ok to run the line behind my gas stove to the fridge , or under it. It sits between the sink and the fridge.
@@DoItYourselfDad actually when I rewatched video, you had already covered that!. Bought supplies and have tools. Trying it out at my just moved into place 2 months ago, so real deal at group home I manage, down syndrome. Such a tight budget at work, I've replaced toilet guts, rewired screens, patched screens, etc etc ....I'll let you know how it goes, thanks so much
It worked!!! Wife is very happy! Lol Thanks for taking the time to upload your video once again!! It's people like you that make TH-cam the best thing ever!
Thanks for this! Exactly what I was looking for. In my scenario, I'll be tapping the cold water underneath a guest bathroom sink (inside a cabinet) and then punching through a wall into the garage. Does the braided stainless steel have any potential to have water condensation beading off of it? I don't want to have to worry about the drywall or insulation getting wet.
Thanks so much for the video! After watching so many, this is the one that works best for our application. I did have a question. Can you please share the link to the hose clips? I did not see it listed. Thanks so much!
I had alot of work done a few years ago on my 92 yr. old home. My washer was next to the fridge. I had a new laundry room built, so the washer was moved out, yay!. But, they completely removed the plumbing needed and covered the hole with drywall & painted! It was up to code.. Why on Earth would they do that? Don't most folks keep that 4 water in the fridge, dishwasher etc?? I'm flabbergasted. No wonder they are unreachable now. We cut open the wall to find that every pipe was gone just the holes in the 2x4s were there. They re-shingled the roof & I've got a small flat roof that leaks, STILL, 6 yrs later, no one can fix it for good..along with more exterior problems. Anyhoo... Its going to be great to have ice & water from our new fridge! Thank you!
I had a void back there, if yours is blocked off you can probably drill though and fish the line through with something like a straightened out coat hanger. Hope that helps.
This was perfectly done! I am wondering...if you decide to remove the water line from the fridge, how do you shut off water to the fridge line without disrupting the water to the sink? Thank you so much!!!!
Ha. I purchase a whole new valve instead of that extension/splitter. Total bonehead maneuver. Being that main, valve bolt affixed to copper line didn't want to come loose, I went this direction. Thank you.
I just got a new Whirlpool refrigerator. How long does it take to prime the supply line to the fridge? I went under the sink, through a cabinet, and behind the dishwasher. Fittings are secure, and there are no kinks in the line. I am getting no water. I unscrewed the connections and checked them the line connected to the sink end had water in it. The side that hooks up to the fridge and it's dry. The line is maybe 10 ft from end to end. I've been pushing the water button for 15 minutes and there is still no water. The filter is new and hooked up properly. The screen on the door is unlocked. The water pressure is fine throughout the house. The water is turned on at the main line going into the house and under the sink. Any suggestions? I even unplugged and plugged back in the power cord! Thank you!
You mentioned that you need to pull out the oven and dishwasher, but I wish you would have shown what you did with the line for these. Did you screw hangers into the wall behind the oven, for example. Otherwise very concise and helpful.
Hi thanks, I followed the exact steps except I had to join 2 x 10 feet braided hoses and am constantly getting air have 2 remove air for water to work...any ideas, I checked all joints for leaks and tightened everything
So my big point of confusion isn't how to run the line (although thank you for demonstrating and confirming my assumptions), but how to route the line through a blind angle. My sink and supply lines are essentially exactly where your dishwasher is in your example, with a wall along the left side. And then the next cabinet to the left of your dishwasher, at an angle, would match where mine is, with a wall along its right side. So both have walls at right angles to each other, and I have no accessibility behind them. So short of cutting out a large chunk of each wall (I'm in an apartment, so already pushing my limits here) to be able to fish for that new line, I'm not sure how to blindly get the line between those two right-angled walls. Any tips?
Do, you have a video, on how to install, a microwave over a gas stove/range? I also, need how to install, a SS Range Hood? The, taller ones. Going, over a gas stove/range & how to remove, a 1970's cheap, range hood? New, one will be installed, in a mobile home. TY, soo much again!
Can you comment on the taste of the water using that type of hose? I want to try this installation but I am concerned by what I've read about the taste from braided hoses.
Great video. One question though. I am going to run a line along a utility room wall and have to make a sharp 90° turn to go through the wall to the refrigerator just on the other side of the wall. Suggestions for making that bend and covering the holes in the wall on both sides so that it isn't unsightly?
@@BestManInDublin Not exactly. Mine runs from a utility room through the wall to the refrigerator in a basement garage room, so I finally decided that looks didn't make that big of a difference. I ran the line along the wall just above the baseboard and left enough slack that I could turn the line and feed it through the hole that I drilled for the line to go through. I might buy a 90° elbow and place it where the line turns to go through the wall, but for now I'm okay with it being like it is.

This was so helpful. One question, where should the hose go when you get behind the stove?
Secure it to the wall just above the baseboard.
Where your cabinets made the 90 degree (in the corner ) turn did you have a void back there to figure out how to make that turn?
I had a void back there, if yours is blocked off you can probably drill though and fish the line through with something like a straightened out coat hanger. Hope that helps.

This was perfectly done! I am wondering...if you decide to remove the water line from the fridge, how do you shut off water to the fridge line without disrupting the water to the sink? Thank you so much!!!!
You can install a 1/4 valve before the water line to the fridge if you want to be able to do that.

Where did you find the clips? I don’t see them on Amazon.
How would you go about running one if it's across from the sink

Great job dad!
Wow I thought it be more complicated than that, thanks.
So I've read online that one should have a valve of some sort at the refrigerator. Apparently it's mandatory code in some places?
You mentioned that you need to pull out the oven and dishwasher, but I wish you would have shown what you did with the line for these. Did you screw hangers into the wall behind the oven, for example. Otherwise very concise and helpful.
It’s going to be different for every install, but yes, I screwed it directly to the wall behind the oven.
Thank you so much I was hoping it was a way to do this I’m in a second floor apartment
Hi thanks, I followed the exact steps except I had to join 2 x 10 feet braided hoses and am constantly getting air have 2 remove air for water to work...any ideas, I checked all joints for leaks and tightened everything
Have you tried bleeding the line into a bucket before hooking it back up to the fridge?
How tight do you turn the nuts on those braided compression fittings to begin with?
I've never gone my a torq rating, but those fittings are compression fittings so they should he snug, but no need to really torq them down.
Thank you so much for this video, I’ve watched at least 4 more and this video is the one that I actually understood.

Thank you for this, seriously made it look so easy. I had a question though, how come you didn't use plumbers tape on the thread?
You don’t use tape on compression fittings. It’s can cause leaks.

Should you open the valve/line under the sink for fridge connection all the way? Or just slightly?
All the way open.
Does it have to be a metal line, the one on mine is plastic tubing
It doesn't have to be metal, I went with a steel braided hose for durability, don't want a flood in my house.
I have a plastic tubing instead of stainless steel. What connectors do I need to attach to use it in conjunction with the Angle Stop Add a T?
Can you comment on the taste of the water using that type of hose? I want to try this installation but I am concerned by what I've read about the taste from braided hoses.
I haven't noticed any change. You should always run 20 gallons or so through the lines and a new filter before drinking as well.
you fail to link the little black holder thing, what are they called?
Could you do a video on installing a through the wall sleeve for a room air conditioner? Thanks.

Great video. One question though. I am going to run a line along a utility room wall and have to make a sharp 90° turn to go through the wall to the refrigerator just on the other side of the wall. I have that valve under the sink but it’s on the hot side, can I connect hot water valve to the refrigerator and just use hot water for ice?
You can, but I would add a valve on the cold side. It's going to take much longer to get ice using hot water.
