Behringer V-Amp 2 Review / Demo

  • In this review/demo I talk about the pros and cons of the V-Amp2 Guitar Effects unit and then go through each of the guitar amp models and effects. This is a great unit for the beginner to intermediate guitar player looking to explore now sounds on a budget. The unit has a street value of around $100 or less. I recommend this to any guitarist looking to expand their sound, but don't know exactly what effects they want or need yet.

    Thanks for recording and posting this. I like mine a lot. It looked like you only went through half of the models, though. There is a second model for each position that you can get by pushing down the left button as you turn the model dial.

    That is correct; holding one of the letter buttons down for a few seconds stores your settings to that patch. A thru E are the 5 patches in a single bank, and the Bank Up and Bank Down buttons switch between the banks.

    One thing I haven't seen mentioned here: on the V-AMP you have a second group of amp models as well as a second parameter you can control for the effects. The "second" options are labeled in a lighter grey text and are accessed by holding down the Tap Tempo/2nd button while you turn the amp model selector knob or the effects knob.

      Yes exactly.... and this basically is the same text processor it's built into my V-ampire
      And as far as beginner to intermediate hold it right there my friend I'mma tell you right now if you know what you're doing with a solid-state amp especially one that's actually pretty damn complicated like the one that I have and not like your user-friendly tube amp I went up against another guitar player all the time in my band playing a Behringer V amp fire and the other guitar player a marshall stack tube amp as far as tone and everything goes in the end my guitar and amp cost a total of maybe $1,000 was way better than dudea

    Nice review. I have both the V-AMP2 and the V-AMP Pro and still find occasional uses for them, even though I have upgraded to mostly tc electronic gear on a nice pedalboard setup. I've gotten good results getting a reasonable facsimile of a Mesa sound using the Rectified Hi Gain model when recording with a Strat. Also, note that it is not necessary to use a MIDI cable to record with the V-AMP; you can run the audio out to a line in on your sound card or recording interface.

    KennisRussell, you are wrong about "the brick in the middle" of the adaptors chord. It´s very good thing because electrical sockets on the wall or on an extention chord usually get crammed up because of the brick-like adaptor at the end of the power-supply so one needs more and more and more extentions.

    Can someone tell me how to plug this one into computer for recording? I've heard about this little device called UCA-222, but someone told me that it works only for V-Amp 3, and V-Amp 2 looses all of the sound quality when plugged in via UCA... Also, does this program that comes with v-amp 3 (ztx-something, sorry for my bad memory) works with v-amp 2?

    I have this unit. I use it to practice with headphones and to easily maniuplate/edit sounds. The sounds available are, quite possilby, the easiest to edit of any device of this type. Granted, you're not going to sound exactly like any specific amp, but you can get the gist of how to setup the real thing with one of these. They are inexpensive, and the sounds available make this well worth the small investment.

    Similar, but much smaller units such as the Lekato PA-1 amp & Pockrock are available now for about $30-40. Pockrock is even shaped like this unit, tho smaller, as I said. Pockrock includes 40 drum loops and the ability to Bluetooth in for play-alongs...but Pockrock has a conventional tone knob, whereas the V-Amp appears to have an actual bass, mid & treble boost.
    A neat thing that can be done with any of these units is to plug in an inexpensive Bluetooth transmitter & use an inexpensive, small wireless speaker to replace a practice amp. Some of these speakers output as much as 20-30 watts. But others are small enough to fit in one's pocket...and, especially "bone conduction" speakers that amplify the sound thru the surface they sit on can be surprisingly loud, with good bass.

    I'm just guessing since I don't have the unit in front of me at the moment, but I would start with the Brit Hi Gain amp model with compression enabled if I was trying to get Slash's sound. If you can get the tone from the amp model without enabling compression, then probably enable delay instead.

  • @arjunkaul

    Yeah its a great design actually. Its tweakable right from the front panel. You also don't lose your tweaks if yous hut down and start up, the vamp shows you what setting you had last. It's not the greatest unit in the world but its way better than most people think. :D

    I have both the V2 & V3 and I've found that the units need a strong volume signal for the tuner to work at its best -- I just turn the guitar's volume to 10. You can control the volume out with the Master Volume. (Then it works just as well as my Hardwire HT-2 pedal tuner.) So, when the tuner is on you can silence it or turn the volume up to suit your tastes, The tuner is like an additional patch -- it'd be the 126th I guess. Anyway, Thanks for the review and Praise God. John 15:5-10.

      It's not regular connection, if you are looking for replacement power supply. It looks more like a small MIDI connector, with 4 pin. I don't see any other devices use this kind of connector.

  • @arjunkaul
    @arjunkaul 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes completely. Ive even used it as a vocal preamp and it sounds great.
    You can use the tube compressor setting and switch cabinets OFF. That will give you a nice smooth tone for your electro acoustic (if its a jumbo). If its a ES335 style thin body, you can try a Fender Twin or Fender Bassman model with the matching cabinet (the vamp will select it automatically for you)
    Then you can add a big of plate reverb or some similar subtle reverb also on the vamp ad you're ready to go.
    Good luck!

  • @JanneOksanen
    @JanneOksanen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a few of these units over the years and it used to be that for the price it was totally unbeatable. I did discover a major drawback with it, though. When you turn on one of the effects it totally dulls your tone. Let's say you have a great distortion tone dialed in and you just add chorus. You can hear the tone lose a couple of dB of gain and it becomes somehow thin and muddy. That's the reason why I finally had to move on to more expensive units.

    i run a portable CD player to the AUX in which contain my drum/bass tracks when i play at open mics. i control the mix between drums, bass and guitar with the v-amp and send that in stereo to the soundman's board telling him to set the EQ flat, no reverb and no effects. Then all he has to do is mix that to my vocal.

    i was gona buy 1. gtr center was all out soo i went with a me25 boss iam glad i did this v amp sounds soo plastic. however if you did something heavy metal more mid treble gain it might sound better than a gumby tune. just like sex it aint what ya got its all how you use it. but i do recomend beringer mixing consoles i have 1 in my studio with my rig and its nice n clean as well as hard driveing like a marshall stack. but it is a pro board.

    thanks for taking the time to do this... but please be aware that you spend too much time talking about stuff no one cares about-- you should cut to the chase early on in the video. you could've summed up the first 7 minutes in 6 seconds. people come here to hear the unit; you only changed amp models without tweaking any tone controls and gain controls (which should be the focus of the video). :)

    Los efectos de metal le sacaste toda la ganancia y no suenan como deberian sonar. Deben probar el vamp2 con gain 10 y NUMETAL O MODERN HIGH GAIN los cuales suenan bastante pesado.

    i've got a v-amp and it's good but i don't like behringer's factory presets, they're all over the place. No pattern and they didn't set all the volumes equally

    Hey man. I have a boss multi effects too, its good at what it does but boss distortions are very weak sounding to my ears. Their amp modelling isn't very good either. For hi gain amos forgeddaboudit. Boss wins on effects for sure. Delays, Choruses etc. All the HiFi stuff it wins. The vamp wins on tone. IMHO of course.
