I think what made him kill them was because he touched David’s head and realized it was synthetic not flesh. That probably offended him that humans made a mockery of life with a robot.
If you watched the deleted scenes where Shaw asked desperately why the Engineers hates humans. Weyland immediately shuts down Shaw with lethal intent. The engineer wanted to talk it out first but seeing how Humans (Wayland and Co.) treat others deemed them an unworthy species. Wayland with the audacity ask the creator an immortal body and brags about david and his creation. If Shaw got her questions first the outcome would have been different.

I've also heard somewhere that the Alphas (predecessors to engineers) made engineers from our DNA but IDK if that's the case because I heard somewhere (TH-cam videos) that there's a different canon. That the engineers said that humans were the only successful ones. It's inferred that we were successful because we were more technologically advanced and relatively less aggressive. However they still saw the aggression as a flaw and raised Jesus to send to us. Then whenever we crucified our only hope for humanity is when they became enraged and wanted to kill us. Even though this doesn't make sense because Jesus was resurrected I'm fairly certain it's still supposed to be canon. I believe that the Engineer felt that the "creation" of David was an "abomination" by his standards and that the fact that Weyland compared himself to a God was an evidence of humanity's pride and misguided morale.

I agree to a certain extent, however, in the case of the new alien movies the backgrounds and plots are very muddled and poorly shown(which make these videos so entertaining) causing confusion which I've seen first hand with people, turning them away from the franchise. If your gonna be mysterious and entertaining without losing the more casual crowd I think arrival is a good example of mystery done well in a movie.
I feel like these types of movies are now one big extended trailer. The appeal to the larger audience as they are dumbed down. If you want more from it, you have to delve into the novelizations and watch youtube video theories. That's where the juicy stuff is.

I think the security guy hitting Shaw played the biggest role in what happened. Weyland giving the order with pretty much a flick of his hand, and the arrogance in the way he spoke of creating David, not even glancing towards him while saying it was probably the proverbial straw.

There are not that many things that were excluded. The Engineer talking is the only one that would actually add much to the movie (other than the scene where Fifield takes the worms when they first enter the derelict). And even without these two, the movie is pretty upheaded. It's not that COMPLEX to UNDERSTAND what is happening, but it needs time to figure out what it MEANS and the message it's trying to pass.

Well, I for one believe that if Weiland would have shown some patience and allowed David to translate Shaw's questions, the outcome would have been different. Weiland's behavior is very un-godlike, since he considers himself to be one, rude being a light word to describe his actions and this for sure triggered a negative reaction from the Engineer's side... To me it seems at a point that the engineers was willing to listen to them, anyway at least until the hangover from hyper-sleep passed.
kaleb prinze Well, ok, Ridley is one of the brains behind the story. I was commenting strictly from my point of view as a viewer of that scene, not having read all background stories and interviews. I still like to believe that things could have gone very differently if the attitude and behavior of humans (mostly Weiland) would have been a different one. No true creator is at haste to wipe out his entire creation. But that's just my point of view.
Well, one thing I appreciate about the prequels is that they are not as straight forward as the Alien movies. They require more thinking and more attention to details in order to get the bigger picture. I just recently watched Alien 1, 2, and 3 and clearly they're more easy to follow... I also re-watched Prometheus, paying more attention to details and more pieces of the puzzle started to click in...The story of the engineers is way to broad to be told in two movies... Coming back to the original subject: it's true that the engineer's mind was very unlikely to be changed, and Weiland certainly helped to further cement the negative picture. What I was secretly hoping was that the dialogue was at least slightly longer and more details would have been revealed... Now I'm waiting for a chance to watch Alien: Covenant. And actually I'm looking for all the spoilers so I can pay more attention to the over-all story rather than the direct story told on the screen...
Also, the engineer asks first why does Weiland thinks he deserves more life. He does not dismiss him right away. From the viewers standpoint this also leads me to believe that the engineer was up for some discussion since the humans were there... Some chances, slim ones I admit, were that he would have not carried out his mission. But again, Weiland's behavior blew these chances...

The word optimistic doesn't do your belief that humans will last that long any justice. We don't need any engineers to come here to destroy us; we're doing it to ourselves very successfully. But, I agree that, if humans miraculously last another two or three generations, they will invent a goo that becomes weaponized. We haven't done enough evolving in areas such as compassion. Instead, we've kept our base violent nature and focused our higher intelligence on ways to kill each other more effectively. Many humans do not participate, but unfortunately, enough of us do. Tolle asks if it's considered to be TRUE evolutionary progress when a species moves from killing thousands with swords to killing millions with the push of a button; I think his question was rhetorical... :) I just hope we don't ALSO destroy the innocent creatures who share this planet. Any objective observer or historian who understands that we've destroyed over ONE HUNDRED MILLION of our own species (and countless others) in the last century can only conclude that the part of humanity that is in control is INSANE. Actually this video is summarizing some of the dialog again. The Engineer said "Why have you invaded my skies?" And when David told him the humans thought he invited them he essentially says "I did not ask you here" . His tone was filled with hostility and contempt. I think the Engineers feared we might become rivals to them as in Ridley Scott's original script it hinted that their creation (humans) would surpass them as they advanced considerably faster than the Engineers in a shorter time creating AI and FTL.

The line “Why are you here?” Spoken by the Mala'kak pilot, surprisingly enough, sends chills down my spine. I believe it’s just the gravity of the situation, these space jockeys being creators of humanity after all, face to face with their creations. David, being an inferior mockery of the Engineer’s sacrifice and a sign of immense disrespect, certainly triggered the Pilot’s anger. The Mala'kak are a civilization of a far more higher existence and morals, conversation with them should not be taken lightly with meaningless inquiries and words.

I've been thinking about this scene for a while, I think it worked well as it was in theaters. In the original take, you can experience the scene the way the characters did, remaining intrigued but knowing all you need to. They despise humanity. The clues are there as to why, but it's even more interesting seeing that this engineer has little interest in fully communicating that truth to them by mostly speaking with his actions. I never understood why this film was found so confusing by many of the people talking about it. There are a few parts that left me wondering (as that was the intention I believe) but everything was sufficiently presented, and the end scene was the characters venturing off for more information on the subject...which is exactly where I was as an audience member, right there with the character interested by the same thing.
My biggest criticism of this movie and a LOT of newer movies is the pacing and the editing for the purpose of meeting a projected runtime. I like it when I'm not beat over the head with everything. Unanswered questions invite thoughtful discussion about the movie later. Also, a movie should be as long as it needs to be. If that means its a 3 1/2 hour movie, then so be it, just go to intermission somewhere around the 2 hour mark. That's not a new thing. Dances with Wolves had an intermission when it was in theatres. Certain things in this movie just seemed hurried, and this scene in particular was one of them.

I would of liked them to explore the concepts more in many scenes in both of these films, I can only think that maybe the studios forced the shorter run times to fit into a sub 2 hour film, the studios probably figure that audiences wont sit longer then a 2 hour film, they'd get bored and antsy

I believe that you have missed something. That is the Prometheus myth itself. Prometheus went against the other gods. In your hypothesis you infer that the Engineers are all of one mind, but what if, like Prometheus, a group went against the others to do what they did. This would give reason for the others to attempted to eradicate that what they agree to as soon as they found out about it. Or in another scenario two political parties in which a political shift changed the balance of power. The scene when the Engineer begins to kill everyone, is it just that he realized who and what they were and there fore tried to complete the mission?

Since Ridley Scott is into all this biblical inspired alien lore, it could very well be a war in heaven. The bad thing about that is the motivations for God and the angels in the Bible do not make any sense, so Alien is a doomed franchise if he keeps at this.
FO cast how does it not make any sense ? Learn civilizations, learn what language they used, learn each religion see the links and various changes each have made. Humanity was going to be wiped out cause nobody is perfect. We all have evil thoughts inside us or what they call sin, impure thoughts and motives. If you look at humanity inside out we’d all be the same. So humanity is being lead to think purely on things fabricated by man. Nobody is better than the other, humans have egos. HeresFrank Betches If it's too slow then you can speed it up in the clip's setting. Set it to x1.25 speed for a bland, normal-sounding voice. Or keep it at x1 speed for a more interesting and unique voice. Your choice.
I like his pace as well! I also think that speaking more slowly must help him maintain such a consistently good accent when speaking English as a second language, and that quality of speech is which is way more important to me than the speed one speaks. Kepp up the good work!
One of the few videos I could find with such clear translations and ideas, backstory etc. You arent too slow dude. You are a little slow, but its definately not a bad thing. A lot of upoaders have motor mouth and I have to re-watch certain parts to be sure I heard correctly. Personally, I prefer clarity of speech over speed. Great video mate :-)
I think the fact that Weyland introduced David as his 'creation' (a synthetic robot) basically proved the Engineer's point. Weyland says he created David to be perfect, which infers that humans are imperfect. Weyland places more faith in a synthetic creation than his own biological offspring.
Yyyeeesss! I think calling David “life” also displeased the engineer. AI can be pretty cool, but at least up to that point in the series we had never seen a bot act in opposition of it’s programming. David isn’t life, he doesn’t have free will. He’s essentially a fancy calculator that is technically immortal because things that were never alive can’t die…. The engineer(s) accepted that death was an inevitable outcome of having life. So they decided to leave a legacy that they HOPED would be good. Weyland built a toy and now wants his live-forever token. The ego.
David did not convey the disdain The Engineer clearly showed in his response when asking what this man had done to deserve more life. David simply said : "he wants to know why" (Weyland wanted more life). Its not clear if the Engineer even knew how long he had been in stasis. Its not even clear as to why the group of four Engineers went into stasis after setting a course for Earth. They were going to delay their journey? Why? David awakened the Engineer manually. Was his cryo chamber set to awaken him at a later date automatically or.....?
MrZayne they would have to go into stasis for the journey to earth as humans do. i think they would be awakened on arrival, but, 'things went to pot' before the other 3 engineers made it to there pods. Another observation is how the awakened engineer activated the central control chair as if on a war footing? the hologram shows 2 engineers and one throws what looks like a lab coat?

I think this movie tells the viewer; We're not going to tell you what is going on . You'll have to figure it out on your own. Clearly if you re-watch the film you'll learn that it was a military base and they had been seeding planets and experimenting with the black goo. When the Engineers learned that humans were to violent they decided to end the experiment and send the juggernaut to unleash the black goo. At some point thing got out of control and they unintentionally created a deacon. If you listen during the hologram part of the movie when the Engineers were running you can hear a loud roar. This is the same roar at the end of the movie when the deacon ripped through the dead Engineer. You can also see the entrance of the movie as too low for an Engineer to walk through and the area where they got in was narrow but big enough for a deacon. We can speculate that the Engineers post poned their plans for Earth to secure the structure but the deacon grew huge and killed Engineers left and right which explains the dead Engineers all pulled up . It is also possible that some of the Engineers got infected. So maybe the remains Dr of the Engineers decided to sleep until help came or wait it out a few years until the deacon left. Waking up and seeing humans just ad violent as the Roman times and demanding immortality would have only pissed him off even more. So it makes sense for the Engineer to tear of David's head and hit Weyland in the head to his death And be like "fuck you and your long life, bitch."
How can you differentiate a man from a god without comparing the two? To compare is to elucidate yourself upon the similarities and differences between two or more objects or concepts.
I always assumed he had said something like "You fool. You want us to make you immortal?!? Look around, we couldn't even save ourselves." Which would have certainly made more sense since they are standing in a virtual tomb of a city that was destroyed because the alien virus go out.
I agree, so many questions why he would go on a murderous rampage for Weyland's question and comments. It could be he knows the fate of his people because the the goo and what would happen to the humans also. Killing them to keep them from traveling space and spreading the goo throughout the galaxy was his reaction? Still it would have been nice had he explained that to them while killing them.
The reason I feel removing the subtitles was an error is because it creates ambiguity in David's motivations rather than just confusion in what the Engineer is saying.

another interesting deleted scene is when the engineer enters Vickers life boat after the crash. In the deleted scene he seems to marvel at the opulence, stroking the crystal shade.
David to engineer, "sorry that we broke the henweigh". Engineer, "what's a henweigh"? David, "oh, about two to three pounds, depending on the hen". Engineer, "fugitaboutit you shmuck".
That was phenomenal. I really wanted to know what their dialogue was during that scene, and it's great you have made this video. I personally would've liked the subtitles to be added, and even the extended time of the scene, as I think it would've created an atmosphere which would have ultimately answered why he begins attacking them. I would agree with you in that after so much time, and such unexpected advancement in evolution, seeing violence as a still prevalent behavior would show they were a mistake to the Engineers. Nothing he saw, or heard from David, showed him Humans had done anything deserving of such help as was being requested.
It would be great to have had this scene in the movie. And if this theory is correct about how he saw how they treated Shaw, and how Weyland was being Mr. High and Mighty (then ultimately deciding to go and bomb Earth), a separate movie about the Engineers creating Humans and seeing how they lived would be great. Even ending it at the point where the Engineers go to this military base to create the weapons to wipe out the Humans, or better yet, give them an ultimatum.
If anyone actually wants to know the answer to that, it is the egg. Whatever genetic mutation that led to the first animal being considered a real chicken would have been grown in and born from an egg that came from something almost, but not quite, a chicken.

If you watched the deleted scenes where Shaw asked desperately why the Engineers hates humans. Weyland immediately shuts down Shaw with lethal intent. The engineer wanted to talk it out first but seeing how Humans (Wayland and Co.) treat others deemed them an unworthy species. Wayland with the audacity ask the creator an immortal body and brags about david and his creation.
If Shaw got her questions first the outcome would have been different.

I agree to a certain extent, however, in the case of the new alien movies the backgrounds and plots are very muddled and poorly shown(which make these videos so entertaining) causing confusion which I've seen first hand with people, turning them away from the franchise. If your gonna be mysterious and entertaining without losing the more casual crowd I think arrival is a good example of mystery done well in a movie.
I feel like these types of movies are now one big extended trailer. The appeal to the larger audience as they are dumbed down. If you want more from it, you have to delve into the novelizations and watch youtube video theories. That's where the juicy stuff is.

I think the security guy hitting Shaw played the biggest role in what happened. Weyland giving the order with pretty much a flick of his hand, and the arrogance in the way he spoke of creating David, not even glancing towards him while saying it was probably the proverbial straw.

I'm beginning to believe that a great number of these directors think that people are in it for the action, and not the dialogue.
There are not that many things that were excluded. The Engineer talking is the only one that would actually add much to the movie (other than the scene where Fifield takes the worms when they first enter the derelict).
And even without these two, the movie is pretty upheaded. It's not that COMPLEX to UNDERSTAND what is happening, but it needs time to figure out what it MEANS and the message it's trying to pass.

Well, I for one believe that if Weiland would have shown some patience and allowed David to translate Shaw's questions, the outcome would have been different. Weiland's behavior is very un-godlike, since he considers himself to be one, rude being a light word to describe his actions and this for sure triggered a negative reaction from the Engineer's side...
To me it seems at a point that the engineers was willing to listen to them, anyway at least until the hangover from hyper-sleep passed.

I still like to believe that things could have gone very differently if the attitude and behavior of humans (mostly Weiland) would have been a different one. No true creator is at haste to wipe out his entire creation. But that's just my point of view.
Well, one thing I appreciate about the prequels is that they are not as straight forward as the Alien movies. They require more thinking and more attention to details in order to get the bigger picture. I just recently watched Alien 1, 2, and 3 and clearly they're more easy to follow... I also re-watched Prometheus, paying more attention to details and more pieces of the puzzle started to click in...The story of the engineers is way to broad to be told in two movies...
Coming back to the original subject: it's true that the engineer's mind was very unlikely to be changed, and Weiland certainly helped to further cement the negative picture. What I was secretly hoping was that the dialogue was at least slightly longer and more details would have been revealed... Now I'm waiting for a chance to watch Alien: Covenant. And actually I'm looking for all the spoilers so I can pay more attention to the over-all story rather than the direct story told on the screen...
Also, the engineer asks first why does Weiland thinks he deserves more life. He does not dismiss him right away. From the viewers standpoint this also leads me to believe that the engineer was up for some discussion since the humans were there... Some chances, slim ones I admit, were that he would have not carried out his mission. But again, Weiland's behavior blew these chances...

The word optimistic doesn't do your belief that humans will last that long any justice. We don't need any engineers to come here to destroy us; we're doing it to ourselves very successfully. But, I agree that, if humans miraculously last another two or three generations, they will invent a goo that becomes weaponized. We haven't done enough evolving in areas such as compassion. Instead, we've kept our base violent nature and focused our higher intelligence on ways to kill each other more effectively. Many humans do not participate, but unfortunately, enough of us do. Tolle asks if it's considered to be TRUE evolutionary progress when a species moves from killing thousands with swords to killing millions with the push of a button; I think his question was rhetorical... :) I just hope we don't ALSO destroy the innocent creatures who share this planet. Actually this video is summarizing some of the dialog again. The Engineer said "Why have you invaded my skies?" And when David told him the humans thought he invited them he essentially says "I did not ask you here" . His tone was filled with hostility and contempt. I think the Engineers feared we might become rivals to them as in Ridley Scott's original script it hinted that their creation (humans) would surpass them as they advanced considerably faster than the Engineers in a shorter time creating AI and FTL.
I've read that a more precise translation of this phrase is closer to "What is it that you want?"

I believe it’s just the gravity of the situation, these space jockeys being creators of humanity after all, face to face with their creations. David, being an inferior mockery of the Engineer’s sacrifice and a sign of immense disrespect, certainly triggered the Pilot’s anger. The Mala'kak are a civilization of a far more higher existence and morals, conversation with them should not be taken lightly with meaningless inquiries and words.

I've been thinking about this scene for a while, I think it worked well as it was in theaters. In the original take, you can experience the scene the way the characters did, remaining intrigued but knowing all you need to. They despise humanity. The clues are there as to why, but it's even more interesting seeing that this engineer has little interest in fully communicating that truth to them by mostly speaking with his actions. I never understood why this film was found so confusing by many of the people talking about it. There are a few parts that left me wondering (as that was the intention I believe) but everything was sufficiently presented, and the end scene was the characters venturing off for more information on the subject...which is exactly where I was as an audience member, right there with the character interested by the same thing.
My biggest criticism of this movie and a LOT of newer movies is the pacing and the editing for the purpose of meeting a projected runtime. I like it when I'm not beat over the head with everything. Unanswered questions invite thoughtful discussion about the movie later. Also, a movie should be as long as it needs to be. If that means its a 3 1/2 hour movie, then so be it, just go to intermission somewhere around the 2 hour mark. That's not a new thing. Dances with Wolves had an intermission when it was in theatres.
Certain things in this movie just seemed hurried, and this scene in particular was one of them.

I believe that you have missed something. That is the Prometheus myth itself. Prometheus went against the other gods. In your hypothesis you infer that the Engineers are all of one mind, but what if, like Prometheus, a group went against the others to do what they did. This would give reason for the others to attempted to eradicate that what they agree to as soon as they found out about it. Or in another scenario two political parties in which a political shift changed the balance of power. The scene when the Engineer begins to kill everyone, is it just that he realized who and what they were and there fore tried to complete the mission?

Since Ridley Scott is into all this biblical inspired alien lore, it could very well be a war in heaven. The bad thing about that is the motivations for God and the angels in the Bible do not make any sense, so Alien is a doomed franchise if he keeps at this.

If you look at humanity inside out we’d all be the same. So humanity is being lead to think purely on things fabricated by man. Nobody is better than the other, humans have egos. You arent too slow dude. You are a little slow, but its definately not a bad thing. A lot of upoaders have motor mouth and I have to re-watch certain parts to be sure I heard correctly. Personally, I prefer clarity of speech over speed. Great video mate :-)
I think the fact that Weyland introduced David as his 'creation' (a synthetic robot) basically proved the Engineer's point. Weyland says he created David to be perfect, which infers that humans are imperfect. Weyland places more faith in a synthetic creation than his own biological offspring.
Not just that, but genetic reproduction was the engineers creation, so saying that this robot is better is saying that he's better than them
The Engineers give their lives to create new life, so the idea that Weyland deserves more life for creating other life offended the Engineer.

David isn’t life, he doesn’t have free will. He’s essentially a fancy calculator that is technically immortal because things that were never alive can’t die….
The engineer(s) accepted that death was an inevitable outcome of having life. So they decided to leave a legacy that they HOPED would be good. Weyland built a toy and now wants his live-forever token. The ego.
Adding this dialogue would have added so much to understanding why they wanted to kill us.

David did not convey the disdain The Engineer clearly showed in his response when asking what this man had done to deserve more life. David simply said : "he wants to know why" (Weyland wanted more life).
Its not clear if the Engineer even knew how long he had been in stasis. Its not even clear as to why the group of four Engineers went into stasis after setting a course for Earth. They were going to delay their journey? Why? David awakened the Engineer manually. Was his cryo chamber set to awaken him at a later date automatically or.....?

MrZayne they would have to go into stasis for the journey to earth as humans do. i think they would be awakened on arrival, but, 'things went to pot' before the other 3 engineers made it to there pods. Another observation is how the awakened engineer activated the central control chair as if on a war footing? the hologram shows 2 engineers and one throws what looks like a lab coat?
There was also the outbreak of... Whatever it was in their station that could have been the reason they went under.

The tone and speed in your voice is totally appropriate for the content you're showcasing and deep diving into. I feel like your voice is as mysterious as the content in these videos.

I think this movie tells the viewer; We're not going to tell you what is going on . You'll have to figure it out on your own. Clearly if you re-watch the film you'll learn that it was a military base and they had been seeding planets and experimenting with the black goo. When the Engineers learned that humans were to violent they decided to end the experiment and send the juggernaut to unleash the black goo. At some point thing got out of control and they unintentionally created a deacon. If you listen during the hologram part of the movie when the Engineers were running you can hear a loud roar. This is the same roar at the end of the movie when the deacon ripped through the dead Engineer. You can also see the entrance of the movie as too low for an Engineer to walk through and the area where they got in was narrow but big enough for a deacon. We can speculate that the Engineers post poned their plans for Earth to secure the structure but the deacon grew huge and killed Engineers left and right which explains the dead Engineers all pulled up . It is also possible that some of the Engineers got infected. So maybe the remains Dr of the Engineers decided to sleep until help came or wait it out a few years until the deacon left.
Waking up and seeing humans just ad violent as the Roman times and demanding immortality would have only pissed him off even more. So it makes sense for the Engineer to tear of David's head and hit Weyland in the head to his death And be like "fuck you and your long life, bitch."

I agree, so many questions why he would go on a murderous rampage for Weyland's question and comments. It could be he knows the fate of his people because the the goo and what would happen to the humans also. Killing them to keep them from traveling space and spreading the goo throughout the galaxy was his reaction? Still it would have been nice had he explained that to them while killing them.

The reason I feel removing the subtitles was an error is because it creates ambiguity in David's motivations rather than just confusion in what the Engineer is saying.

another interesting deleted scene is when the engineer enters Vickers life boat after the crash. In the deleted scene he seems to marvel at the opulence, stroking the crystal shade.

That was phenomenal. I really wanted to know what their dialogue was during that scene, and it's great you have made this video. I personally would've liked the subtitles to be added, and even the extended time of the scene, as I think it would've created an atmosphere which would have ultimately answered why he begins attacking them. I would agree with you in that after so much time, and such unexpected advancement in evolution, seeing violence as a still prevalent behavior would show they were a mistake to the Engineers. Nothing he saw, or heard from David, showed him Humans had done anything deserving of such help as was being requested.
It would be great to have had this scene in the movie. And if this theory is correct about how he saw how they treated Shaw, and how Weyland was being Mr. High and Mighty (then ultimately deciding to go and bomb Earth), a separate movie about the Engineers creating Humans and seeing how they lived would be great. Even ending it at the point where the Engineers go to this military base to create the weapons to wipe out the Humans, or better yet, give them an ultimatum.
Anyone complaining about how you speak is just being ungrateful. They might as well just be trolling. I love how you speak.

If anyone actually wants to know the answer to that, it is the egg. Whatever genetic mutation that led to the first animal being considered a real chicken would have been grown in and born from an egg that came from something almost, but not quite, a chicken.
