  • My grandma taught me the secrets of making the most delicious Num Ansom, a traditional Khmer dessert. Even though she passed away many years ago, I continue to honor her and my culture by carrying on this tradition every Khmer New Year. As I make this dessert, I am flooded with memories of lazy afternoons spent with my family, enjoying sweet treats just like this.
    Food is an essential part of our heritage, and my grandma's recipe will always hold a special place in my heart. Join me in celebrating our roots and making grandma's Num Ansom recipe! I believe that all food is related to our origins, just like this dish is to mine.

    -Sliced pork belly: 500~600g
    -Banana leaves: 2packages (1kg)
    -Coconut milk: 500ml
    -Sugar: 75g
    -Salt: 12.5g
    -Chicken powder: 12.5g
    -Minced garlic: 1tsp
    -Black pepper: 1/2tsp
    -Green onion (optional)
    -Cotton twine / string (cut into 80cm length)

    Hello from USA! Great job on making this traditional pork rice cake! I myself used to make this with my mom. Can i make a suggestion, when you clean the banana leaves, you don’t need to clean it with soap. You can actually use a kitchen towel with water to clean the leaves or soak the banana leaves for 10 to 15 minutes. By doing this method, your banana leaves will not have residue of soap stuck to the leaves. It’s also safer for you to consume.

      Yes you are right but I feel banana leaves are so clean that we always clean with vegetable's soap.

    This recipe helps increase the shelf life of my Num Ansom and prevents it from spoiling quickly for up to one week at room temperature (20-25°C), but it usually gets consumed before the expiration date because it's so delicious 😊

    *Soak the mung beans in cold water for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours. Drain the soaked mung bean and mix it with 5g of chicken powder before you starting wrap.
