Between loving this series so much as a teenager and a young adult and remembering my days of vegging out watching XPlay...damn this hit me in the feels.
I used to write movie reviews for a news station back in the day and I was a huge X-Play fan. Their style heavily influenced my writing, but my reporter was never able to deliver any snarkiness/sarcasm/humor. It made me realize just how consistently talented the X-Play staff all were. To see this back in play and Adam in full Adam-glory really makes me happy and I cannot wait for more.

I remember first hearing about Mass Effect from the original X-Play review. I knew nothing about it but Sessler's positive review made me pick it up. All these years later the series is still in my top 5.
I loved Mass Effect up to the end of part 3. I'm actually in the process of trying to get the Normandy in No Man's Sky PSVR. I can't wait to pick up the Legendary Edition and give ME another go.

This is gonna sound weird but getting regular reviews Adam Sessler almost makes me teary eyed. G4 is what really got me deep into gaming when I was growing up and them coming back is like getting to hug a friend you have seen in forever.
Dude. Hearing Adam talking about legendary edition in 2021 after growing up hearing him every day back in the 2000s. Has really made me realize how bad I missed this guy. Thank you for making X-Play one of my most cherished memories of childhood. And thank you for still staying on that grind and dedicated to the world of gaming!

Agreed! I spent so much time trying to explain how the entire series had built up to an answer like synthesis, but so many people got indoctrinated by an alternative theory that I just stopped trying to convince them that the ending did make sense. Did it have a few missteps? Yes, but at least they released an extension to the ending to help clean up some of those rough edges. Mass Effect is still one of the best gaming trilogies - no doubt about it!

Sorry i cant go back - you may enjoy and thats fine, but the original ending soured me so much on the series then i gave them a 2nd chance with Andromeda and was fooled again. Zero desire to return to this series now.
Knew I liked Sess for a reason and it's because of videos like this! I feel the exact same about Mass Effect and this was cemented even more so in my recent playthrough of Mass Effect 1. I read through the codex for the first time and was SHOCKED at how in-depth Bioware went with the lore and technology. They explain how everything works and I think it all makes sense in the context of the universe. The Mass Effect universe is very rich and I hope the legendary edition's popularity wakes EA up so they can see that the people want more games like these and not Andromeda.

Like xplay, cheat, ninja warroir, arena, cinema tech, arena, code mokney and the way ahead of its time attack of the show!! Would watch first thing after middle school and weekends. The mass effect ending controversy is such an interesting moment just because of how widespread it was. Would love to hear Adam talk about that and his full opinion on the ending
@@xplay no chrono trigger had 12 different endings based on the decisions you made back on the snes. Its not acceptable for a series like this that was built on pushing that concept further.

Takes me back. It’s November 2007, I’m 14. I watch your review on G4 and go to the local GameStop IMMEDIATELY afterwards. I always loved KOTOR growing up, and knew BioWare made some solid games, but your review is what convinced me that this was something to experience, and man, was it a ride. Those were the days. Adam, I just want to say thank you for revealing this series not only me, but to all of us. Truly, a masterpiece. 5/5
1. You're right about ME3's ending, but I still found the synthesis (green) option disappointing because it was an easy and obviously-correct choice, in a series about hard decisions with no right answers. It should have just been red or blue, because both of those had downsides. 2. ME3 actually perfected the morality system by adding your paragon and renegade points together into a single reputation score. If it's high enough, you unlock both options in a conversation and your paragon/renegade score only changes how people react to you. Unfortunately, this was not the case in the first two games. 3. The problem with the Mako sections wasn't that it was difficult-- it was tedious. Driving around planets that were clearly sculpted in a hurry with the terrain tool is busywork that could have been handled with the ship scanners from orbit. The next game even has you launching probes, which was a (relative) improvement. Makes you wonder how much shorter the game would be if they cut out all the busywork, though.

Honestly the endings were terrible, lazy and brought no depth to the expansive decisions you'd made. But! It is not the defining moment. It is 30 min to an hour of truly painful bad compared to more than a hundred hours of exceptional good. I will never forgive those endings but I will never let it ruin all the joy, feelings and sadness of my time with the meat of the experiance

Xplay is easily one of my favorite shows of all time, I have seen every episode as least 3 times. I used to record the episodes on tape! I can't believe my eyes xplay is back
Have never played any Mass Effect before this. Have no frame of reference but also no nostalgia attached to them. They're a definite purchase. About halfway through Mass Effect 2 and I've enjoyed these games so much already, that I'm looking forward to replaying them as a renegade biotic and taking different routes to my paragon engineer.
Great to see him talk about games again. To me reliving the Mass Effect trilogy is definitely worth it. Right now playing ME1 And there's quite a handful of scenes, missions I've never seen. My first run of the trilogy was going in blind but now I'm searching every nook and cranny and looking to play the DLC contents that I never experienced the first time. This is Nostalgia for me

the fans harassing bioware over the ending of this series is what killed bioware. it caused ray and greg to either leave or be fired and the place was never the same. anthem wasn't even a game.
I remember I used to have the Xplay review of the original Mass Effect downloaded on my computer through iTunes (remember when that was a thing you could do? Lol) and I'd watch it periodically just because I loved the game and Xplay so much lmao. Now hearing Sess talk about it again after all these years makes me so happy. It's all come full circle!

Great video! Mass Effect is one of the best Sci-fi games of all time. The writing and characters are so good and having 3 games to bond and grow with them makes them feel like a family, so that when the credits roll, you're honestly sad to have to say goodbye. Peak Bioware, imo.
You probably won't see this, but Adam, both yours and Morgan Webb's reviews made me really appreciate critical thinkers of the gaming industry. Both of you created a space space for women in the industry. Overall, your reviews inspired me to run some Mass Effect communities of my own, and I appreciate that because I was very hesitant to buy this game based on early EA trailers, however your initial review of ME1 (and those since) inspired me because it showcased both the serious and humorous moments of the series. Plus, that flair for the series. I don't think any review channel does it as well as you guys, and it's nice to have you (and mostly everyone else) back!
I never played mass effect before, but always thought about getting into it to broaden my gaming taste since I'm not really into RPGs. I'm glad I waited until the defenitive versions.
I actually had a major problem with ME1, when I got it for the PC it was unplayable. Took a week to fix and I'm still unable to play in 4K, has to be in 720p, but ME2 and ME3 plays 4K just fine. Very rare problem, as far as I can tell. Still, love the series and happy I'm "able" to play it.
Yo there are so many reviews out there of remastered games where they really don’t have much to say. They just say, “refer to our original review for more details” and just talk about the graphic and performance update. (looking at you ign) But here we got to see the OG Adam Sessler do what he does best, review a game with real passion for the material! That means talking about a remastered game and actually making it feel like a full review!! The passion he has for this game would not let him settle for just talking about the graphical update, he HAS to let us know if anyone hasn’t played this game series, they SHOULD and should know WHY! You will almost never hear this out of other game critics! For someone like me who only got to play mass effect 2 at his friend’s house in 2010 I am really looking forward to getting this! I just have one question and I know this might open a can of worms for some people... PC or Console? (Bereing in mind I have a PS4.) I do have a good PC that could run the game at 60fps however my girlfriend loves these games too and she would want to watch me play the game for the story. I just can’t really do that with my PC awkwardly connected to my TV in my living room while we might be sitting on the couch together. This is really the only reason I haven’t bought the game yet. Lol
I picked up ME: LE as a newcomer to the series. I’m currently playing through Mass Effect 2. Seeing the people I saved in the first game have a new quest in the sequel is just amazing. I avoided Mass Effect because it didn’t appeal to me before but I have to say, this series is absolutely groundbreaking. Also, coming off the high of the ending of Mass Effect 1 and going into the beginning Mass Effect 2 will forever be in my memories. That was quite the surprise.

About halfway through Mass Effect 2 and I've enjoyed these games so much already, that I'm looking forward to replaying them as a renegade biotic and taking different routes to my paragon engineer.

Great to see him talk about games again. To me reliving the Mass Effect trilogy is definitely worth it. Right now playing ME1 And there's quite a handful of scenes, missions I've never seen. My first run of the trilogy was going in blind but now I'm searching every nook and cranny and looking to play the DLC contents that I never experienced the first time. This is Nostalgia for me

The ending makes me not want to play
I am so at ease hearing Adam talk about games!!! I love hearing someone with the same passion for gaming that we have talk about the games we love. G4 (but specifically Xplay) was the BEST!!! Thanks for bringing G4 back!!! 🤩
the fans harassing bioware over the ending of this series is what killed bioware. it caused ray and greg to either leave or be fired and the place was never the same. anthem wasn't even a game.

I remember I used to have the Xplay review of the original Mass Effect downloaded on my computer through iTunes (remember when that was a thing you could do? Lol) and I'd watch it periodically just because I loved the game and Xplay so much lmao.
Now hearing Sess talk about it again after all these years makes me so happy. It's all come full circle!

THIS FOR ONE takes me back to when xplay did a special of mass effect 2 and I just gotta mention I remember how in love Morgan webb was with the game. You guys actually convinced me to get the game. It was the best game I ever play up till that point. Never forgot that episode

Great video! Mass Effect is one of the best Sci-fi games of all time. The writing and characters are so good and having 3 games to bond and grow with them makes them feel like a family, so that when the credits roll, you're honestly sad to have to say goodbye. Peak Bioware, imo.

You probably won't see this, but Adam, both yours and Morgan Webb's reviews made me really appreciate critical thinkers of the gaming industry. Both of you created a space space for women in the industry.
Overall, your reviews inspired me to run some Mass Effect communities of my own, and I appreciate that because I was very hesitant to buy this game based on early EA trailers, however your initial review of ME1 (and those since) inspired me because it showcased both the serious and humorous moments of the series. Plus, that flair for the series. I don't think any review channel does it as well as you guys, and it's nice to have you (and mostly everyone else) back!
I never played mass effect before, but always thought about getting into it to broaden my gaming taste since I'm not really into RPGs. I'm glad I waited until the defenitive versions.
these versions def made it worth it
I actually had a major problem with ME1, when I got it for the PC it was unplayable. Took a week to fix and I'm still unable to play in 4K, has to be in 720p, but ME2 and ME3 plays 4K just fine. Very rare problem, as far as I can tell. Still, love the series and happy I'm "able" to play it.

I don't think people complaining about the ending are wrong. I think it's better to say the ending doesn't detract from the journey.

Yo there are so many reviews out there of remastered games where they really don’t have much to say.
They just say, “refer to our original review for more details” and just talk about the graphic and performance update. (looking at you ign) But here we got to see the OG Adam Sessler do what he does best, review a game with real passion for the material! That means talking about a remastered game and actually making it feel like a full review!!
The passion he has for this game would not let him settle for just talking about the graphical update, he HAS to let us know if anyone hasn’t played this game series, they SHOULD and should know WHY! You will almost never hear this out of other game critics!
For someone like me who only got to play mass effect 2 at his friend’s house in 2010 I am really looking forward to getting this!
I just have one question and I know this might open a can of worms for some people...
PC or Console? (Bereing in mind I have a PS4.)
I do have a good PC that could run the game at 60fps however my girlfriend loves these games too and she would want to watch me play the game for the story. I just can’t really do that with my PC awkwardly connected to my TV in my living room while we might be sitting on the couch together.
This is really the only reason I haven’t bought the game yet. Lol
This is amazing. Adams Xplay review of Mass Effect, in 2007, is the reason i bought this game. Now this video exists and I am drowning in Nostalgia.

I picked up ME: LE as a newcomer to the series. I’m currently playing through Mass Effect 2. Seeing the people I saved in the first game have a new quest in the sequel is just amazing. I avoided Mass Effect because it didn’t appeal to me before but I have to say, this series is absolutely groundbreaking.
Also, coming off the high of the ending of Mass Effect 1 and going into the beginning Mass Effect 2 will forever be in my memories. That was quite the surprise.
