From what's shown here this seems like an actually good interpretation of Halo's original art style with modern graphical fidelity. More trees doesn't feel like stuff added for no reason, anymore than grass that isn't just a flat texture does.

unreal is capable of achieving near realtime graphics like the demo (see the showcase for 5.5) the issue here would be the console hardware limitations.

You can totally play Halo 3 with this armor in multiplayer (elites were available in multiplayer too), and this is probably just done using the Master Chief Collection on PC.
Technically, the classic titles 1 and 2 have been remade already if you played HMC. Time for Halo 3 to get the treatment. Halo 4&5 still looks impressive in 4K, but Halo 3 looks dated, 4k or not.
Whyt you guys want every popular game remade every 15-20 years? we already have 2 anniversary editions, running fine even in modern hardware, they should focus their resources on new games.
They got the visuals mostly nailed on the engine. The only thing that looks off to me is the Chief's armor, as it looks a bit too plastic-y in some shots (especially the shot of him holding the energy sword). Now we just have to see if they can nail the game feel in Unreal. We'll see, but this is a good first step at least.

This is a research project about Unreal 5 that is being done by Halo Studios (RIP 343i). They announced that from now on Halo will be made in Unreal 5, and the images in the video were the result of the internal project they did where they recreated some environments/biomes that are common in Halo to test how far they can go in the next projects that have not been announced yet.
Halo 3s graphics are just so unique and charming that ill always prefer it over any new cutting edge graphics of today, even if the Unreal stuff shown looks pretty good. But the final product probably wont look that good anyway, just like Infinite doesnt look half as good as the 2018 showcase.

I dislike the way Chief looks in UE5. It's like those memes you'd see of photo realistic Super Mario... it doesn't look right. Maybe it's the armor or pose but something about it just doesn't look like Chief from the games. Too realistic? Idk but "better" graphics and a name change isn't going to fix any of the real complaints and issues of Halo.

I don't really like new Master Chief redesign. He looks too bulky and has almost no contrast. Should have had more black parts and be darker.

Microsoft contractors policy is just temporal jobs for maximum 18 months. So newers had to learn the 20-year-old SlipSpace Engine / Beam Engine in order to work. A lot of time wasted. A lot of money and engineering works for bug fixing wasted. Unfortunatelly Microsoft CEO earns millions of dollars per year thanks to this contractors policy, so it's not going to change (that's why Microsoft Studios can't retain talent). At least they don't have to teach any newer the game engine because developers know already to use Unreal Engine 5.
@@TheBean87Unreal Engine doing all the work is the reason why those games tend to be unoptimized, Blam was specifically made for shooters and ran excellently on every halo game on console (especially with how ground breaking the OG games were).
