On November 7th, 2024, this game received an update. The big change here is that the Special Forces don't fire their guns nearly as often, so the stun locking isn't as likely to happen. HOWEVER, they did not remove the fact Frank CAN be stun-locked by them. So if the Special Forces appear in more than 2 or 3, or if the fail-safe fails, you'll still be combo'd. They are also less accurate, as they'll sometimes fire off into the side. The game adds a casual mode (because apparently, the game wasn't easy enough for some people) that increases PP from all sources by 40%, doubles Frank's health, and reduces Psychopath Health by about 40%. No Hard Mode was added. The game's lighting seems to be better, so the shadows aren't quite as over-pronounced. The art style and color palette are unchanged, though. Melee combat is slightly improved, as Frank's aim assist with melee weapons is more reliable. However, the animation issues and lower attack speeds have not been fixed. Although not labeled in the patch notes, I think they adjusted Kent to not spam his charge move as often. He was noticeably less toxic in my testing. Everything else is bug-fixing. While good, it doesn't actually change much from what was said in this review. If you loved this like STIPO or Ghenry did, you'll be happy with this. This update won't change your mind if you didn't (like me). Full list here: www.reddit.com/r/deadrising/comments/1gmdof4/dead_rising_deluxe_remaster_update_notes_for_nov_7/
The religious defense of this game kills me. Its not even new, its got the exact same structure as the original, but they tweaked just enough to be the vastly inferior version. This stupid obsession with this being a "NEW" Dead Rising isn't going to last. Give it a few years, when the game isn't new anymore the consensus will be that the original is timeless and this remaster was just a low budget cash grab.
@@JakeJakers I agree Dead Rising remastered is not a good game because of extreme problems. I'm a fan not a tourist not sure why you're acting like a asshole the comment wasn't for you dude.
I want to support the franchise rebirth but it feels like its a rebirth towards new fans, rather than the people who loved the original. The voice actor changes really turned me away from getting it.
Lol I can just imagine the DeadRising Facebook group and Subreddit punching the air seeing this video. Good job man, Capcom shouldn’t be immune from any sort of criticism.
I was honestly on board with a lot of this remaster until I saw the AI assets. Now I dont have a blind hatred of the use of AI like some people, in fact I think using AI to lay out the groundwork for creating/upscaling textures is a great thing because it lets an artist just focus on refining and cleaning up the areas where the AI messed up. But when you cant even be bothered to hire someone to go in and do that last part then you just lose me. How the hell could ANYONE look at some of those textures, see the absolute mess that its become and think "good enough"? I know its kind of a silly thing to be my breaking point but it just shows me that they dont actually care about the little details in a game that is revered for being filled to the brim with them. Why even bother?
This video was hell to make, and several things went wrong along the way. Hopefully, after 9 years, it will have been worth the wait. On a more serious note, the jabs in this video are not directed at anyone nor are they based on any given conversation. But as someone who has been in the fandom since 2011, I do find the lack of critical outlook on this remake just baffling. And I am trying to fix the ad placements. But TH-cam just isn't working...
i dont know why Larry was so problematic, he was a butcher & Psychopath first and Asian second, if he's purpose was only "ha Asian guy" his Case would have been named "The Asian" or something
Outsourced devs were Chinese so they made him a White man because of Chinese censorship laws requiring positive depictions of Chinese nationals in international settings.
I definitely agree with you, you can tell this remake was outsourced and cheap to make. It's a shame because I would've picked up a DR5, I think they just didn't have much confidence in the IP anymore. This entry definitely won't help in that regard.
The reason they made this game is because dead rising 4 killed the game. A this point, Dead Rising 5 would take you to fucking space and save us all from nazi zombies, and I definitely did NOT want to see Chuck anymore after how they handled him and his daughter in 3
@@somethingelse9087 we do actually know what DR5 would have been, which is a prequel to 3&4 set in a Hispanic village starring chuck and a slightly older Katey (younger than she was in 3 but older than 2) And while there wasn't nazis from what I can tell, one of the bosses did have a cyborg arm and they gave Katey the ability to control zombies with telepathic powers because of her infection... For some reason. How they would have explained the lack of this in 3? No idea. But yeah even with jokes aside, DR5 would have been another rough dumb entry in a series that threw more and more of it's tone out the window. I feel bad for the devs, because those working on the games knew it was a mess and ideas higher ups pitched were where most of the stupidity came from. But yeah Capcom Vancouver was a real mess of a studio as time went on.
@@Hi_Just_Fred It wouldn't have necessarily had to follow the original concept for it from Vancouver, they've been defunct for a long time at this point. I would've been more interested to see a game developed in house in Japan. But it seems Capcom doesn't think Dead Rising is worth that. Which is fair enough I suppose, I'm not opposed to a series ending if the alternative is slop. It doesn't really help that zombie media in general peaked in popularity over a decade ago at this point.
I wholelly agree with all of this. Its crazy how we tore apart DR 3 & 4, but people made so many excuses for this remake. Its like the fandom is trying to go backwards in a way.
I feel like the fanbase are mostly tourists now since most that played the original are either old enough to have a family or don’t even care enough to buy this “deluxe remaster.”
I'm working on a video on how disappointing the game was for me too, on the bugs, the missing features and details, the zombies clipping and disappearing in cutscenes(brock's death scene is the worst for this), you can hear mid sentence where they used a different take, and the fact they copy pasted code into an engine and made new bugs, or how the game can't spawn as many zombies as OG, A remake/remaster should meet or exceed things the OG does and this game is worse in so many ways
This was my last straw with Capcom. I'm still very much invested in Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry, but this solidified that I'm not supporting anything from them outside of those ever again, and even those are going in with more trepidation than I otherwise would have. It's absolutely tragic just how bad they fucked this game over on purpose.
Just watching some of the cutscenes, Frank & Brad sounded off enough to bother me in a way that I can't really explain. Between that and some of the... other problems, it makes me glad I've become rather tight-fisted with my money on games. And hearing that the PC version is a mess is disappointing. The PC port of the original had its problems, but it ran consistently and smoothly enough to put up with input delay and the clunky way it handled alt+tabbing, giving me a nostalgic trip back down memory lane when I got off Xbox. A shame I'll have to miss out on a voiced Otis.
"If capcom vancouver released this, people would have asked for DR to go back to the japanese branch of capcom" this is a huge true fact, they would've gotten so much flak for "changing the original like this", but no one bats an eye when the original is changed by the japanese branch who originally developed the game.
@@lestatcanadaYeah, until you bully others for disliking something you like. Which is just equally susceptible to toxicity, especially if some group makes you, subconsciously, believe that you will become part of the "problem" - if you're not into it. A civil discourse is something you're thinking of instead, I feel. Positivity can be just as rotting if eyes are kept shut. Both should be mannered.
@@lestatcanada Anything can be toxic when not applied in healthy doses. Positive and Negative have a time and a place. Without one, the other has no meaning.
I agree so much how I hate the fanbase excusing issues with this game that were also issues in 3&4, like legitimately I hate BOTH of those games but still if this remake suffers from similar issues or it's own issues I'm going to call it out equally and demand better from the developers regardless of if I like dead rising 1 far more than the later games.
Outside of the superficial like the updated graphics, this is literally just an all around worse version of a game from 2006. It's like they were actively trying to ruin most of what made Dead Rising special.
I never like when companies go "We rebuilt the game!" and it's just basically a simple graphics mod. I really have no idea why this shit gets a pass when people are just being lied to and they act like it's not totally disrespectful.
@@pfteveThere was one snippet in promotional preview/interview, when they said, paraphrasing, "we did good enough of a job, we could call it a remake". I don't think even Capcom knows what it is exactly, so the OP is still right, it's misleading how they promoted the game.
One thing you forgot was that they changed the frank the pimp trophy to the greatfull eight i absolutely don't like how games nowadays censor stuff like that and the erotica the only reason I got this remake is because I really hope that they make a new game
I cut that mention from the script. I was originally going to mention they could have changed the name to "Frank the Ladies Man" or "Leisure Suit Frank" if they REALLY wanted it changed.
When I first saved the guy from behind the boxes (that doesn’t even know there’s an outbreak at the time) he near instantly told me that the zombies are more dangerous at night… I’m just like “that’s actually a good tip where’d you hear that” Him: “I made it the fuck up”
The only good things were the autosaves and fast-fowarding feature that made 7-day survivor not ridiculous anymore, but it drained away the challenge of having to fight just to save your game
Yikes, talk about downgrading the game. I guess it's better to pick up the 2016 version instead. I don't get why they didn't add difficulty settings for both newcomers and veterans at the very least - exp gain is insane in this version. Oh, and Alyssa is a correct way of saying it, the way you've said in 11:32 it would be spelled "Alyza".
I was going to get this on steam and as they kept showing more and more changes i couldn't bare to buy it. Also, I like how you touched on RE2:R that game feels like you can't touch it with an ounce of criticism or differing opinion.
My issue with DRDR is that Capcom literally released an unfinished build and almost no one is talking about it. According to SteamDB we are playing the same beta build from augest that was used in previews, months out of date and it has none of the fixes or polish shown in the launch trailer. To this day there is still no patch, everyone is playing a beta build still with months of development time excluded. Seems obvious that the game was meant to come out in November with the physical release, and the sept 19 release for digital was just a marketing gimmick. Hurt the first impressions of the game pretty bad for me, tutorials even have placeholder images of early graphics. This is a far bigger issue than more trivial complaints like censorship. People have given Capcom a free pass on making DRDR an unannounced early access game. Sucks because DRDR is still good enough I would never play OG again, but the first impression is absolutely tainted as someone who has played the game since 2006.
After seeing how good Silent Hill 2 remake was I am very jealous and my copium is that they figured it would be safer to put all their chips on the table for Dead Rising 2 over 1 due to it being more popular because of stuff like Co-Op, the Las Vegas Map and combo weapons. + DR2 having a lot more upside/room to improve with a full on remake than if DR1 had one due to DR1 being pretty much an already perfect game where DR2 could be completely overhauled especially the story as long as the core ingredients are still there.
This is what I have been feeling about Capcom games for the longest time now. No respect for the legacy of any game, just put it in a new egine and plaster it with modern garbage design philosophy because thats what sells right? Like for example how the fuck is it possible that theres a Dragons Dogma game after over a decade and I have not one single atom in me that wants to touch it.
After seeing the censorship the only thing that could've ever made me consider buying this game is if they added multiplayer and they didn't. No amount of added wind cones could ever convince me to buy a game that massacred our beloved Larry Chiang.
@@Ghillie_Beast_yt I know Dead Rising 1 never had co op. I’m saying it’s the only feature that would have made me consider buying this shitty version, instead of just sticking with the original.
18:50 this line seems to have been included as a jab at people who complained about censorship but it’s hypocritical as the cutscenes which puts emphasis is still in the game along with her getting on her hands and knees while typing on the computer.
I'm so glad I played the original just last winter before I even heard there will be an updated one. The only thing that frustrated me was the survivor behaviour. Everything else seems superior. Another dev I can put on the ignore blacklist from now on.
Despite the changes, RE2R has the best replayability and is harder than the original. Getting the best ranking isn't easy but with preperation and exploits it feels very rewarding.
Meh, Resident Evil 2 Remake may not be 1:1 remake, but damn It, that game was awesome! Way better than RE3R. Hell, probably have the best 3rd Person Slow survival horror game I ever played and have the most replay value.
Funny enough, T.J Rotolo came back for Resident Evil 2 Remake for the voice of Birkin. And has come back to voice Frank in Marvel Vs. Capcom. So either something happened between then to now between him and Capcom, or Capcom just decided to go with new voice talent for the DR Remake. I don't mind getting new VAs. Might as well try something new. But if it's as rough as DRDR then maybe they shouldn't have done it. And again, just funny that T.J has come back for a remake already once before.
The Game was outsource to a Chinese Company for Remake so any Things you said about Boosting sale was only part of it. The Funny thing about Censoreship Mention of Communist is that It's was unesscary because back in the day The one in Vietnam War was not the same as The China Party, During the indo-china war, Them China Party actually try to secretly invade the one in Vietnam.
For bugs in Drdr there is a major bug where if you don’t fully kill the convicts before the nighttime cutscene the convicts you didn’t kill will infinitely respawn no matter how many times you kill them until day 3
Aside from the price, the big redeeming factors for this Remake imo is the Autosave, new controls, fast forwarding time, and the endgame books. Edit: Forgot to add that Zombies Kills are carried over after every New Game playthrough.
DR 1 is easily the best one in the franchise in my opinion, and I'm a HUGE fan of the original. But I refuse to play this """Deluxe""" Remaster. The censorship ALONE was enough for me to never play it. And THANK YOU for being candid about it. Anyway, thank you for making this
Agreed, I was obsessed with the original when it came out and was initially looking forward to this. After finding out about the censorship and other changes i decided to wait and currently don’t plan on ever playing this one. They made it look better and lowered the difficulty , removing all the charm and attention to detail. Anyone saying this one is better in every way has either never played the original or is on that copium.
@@key0777 Its not just about the amount its the mentality your giving a company by accepting it based on quantity alone. If they are going to censor a game if it gets accepted that tells a company they can dramatically change the game and tone it down as much as they want to appeal to people to implore them to buy it. And before long nothing emotionally serious can be in a M RATED game without offending the "modern audience". Thats how Todd Howards Horse Armor getting a lot of defenders/purchasers of its not a big enough deal, or its to small to matter, slowly turned into having MTXs at every corner of a game you play so if you said it was small then so its not a big deal, but then it gets bigger in your gaming space, and then you complain about it because now its plainly bigger in your view... Well then I am gonna tell you, you then have some humble pie to eat for not helping stop the ember before it turned into a fire.
The reason why this "remake" has a lower onscreen enemy count than the original is due to the RE engine not being able to handle a larger group of enemies onscreen. If you wanna see the results of a larger group of enemies gathered together onscreen, go play the SE version of DMC 5 on Legendary Dark Knight mode & you'll see the game performance chugging
Deluxe Remaster is such a cashgrab term, this game is nothing but a remake not a remaster. I think the facial animations look shocking bad in this game, and capcom has sucked ass at voice work since RE2 Remake, they get the worst fitting and talent void people to do it.
I think RE 4 Remake's voice cast was pretty good, aside from Ada and arguably Krauser. It didn't feel like they distinctly disrespected the original as blatantly as this.
@@Ender41948 I hate pretty much all the new voices in the remakes, RE4 was especially bad, Leon,s voice sucks and doesn't suit him at all, Hunnigan sounds bored and terrible at the beginning, Ada sounds like she's recorded through a phone call and terrible voice work, pretty much every single voice is worse and of lesser talent and quality. But those are the standards these days really. I seem to remember RE4 remake Ashley sounding pretty ok though. I have zero complaints with RE2 remake Claire voice as she was the best in the game, same with Ada. Just bad scripts, terrible dialogue and gameplay with stupid decisions in my opinion.
After getting through the honeymoon period of a new dead rising AT ALL, yeah I can agree with this video a lot. DR1 is my favorite of the series and the entire time playing there was just something missing that I thought was just me being too in love with the original. But remakes do what remakes do best, strip away what made everything great so it can be the same as everything nowadays. I was just desperate to get anything out of this series since it's been so long since 3. Good video though, put into words what I couldn't back during my playthrough, only thing is I give the VAs some slack since measuring up to the OG's performances is a tall order. Still wish the direction could've been better though.
As someone who has played the original Dead Rising religiously since I woke up on Christmas morning in 2006 at the age of 10, I was optimistic and enthusiastic when the game was first announced and even tried to look past some of the surface-level changes, but my tune slowly changed as the months went by when more and more of the censorship, political correctness, and downgrades were revealed. And outsourcing it to a Chinese developer? I'm glad I haven't bought or touched this shitty "remaster". Capcom let me down hard.
Sorry for all the comments, just kinda commenting as i go through the video. I feel like they added the charge shot to match the mega man games. They should have kept the fast shots though. Because in the games you can shoot extremely quickly.
I don't mind the comments. If anything, more engagement is a good thing. The Charge shot feels like a case of "Wouldn't it be cool" without thinking of the domino effect it'd have on the game.
Bought and refunded the “deluxe” remaster right before I hit the 2 hour mark. It was too patronizing as I leveled up at insane levels, while also being a bit buggy. I wasn’t happy about the censorship, but like you mentioned, I wanted to see if they made it play better. I only like two things in DRDR: the ability to skip through the damn Otis calls and fast-forwarding during the infinity mode. Ugh, Capcom’s (or in this instance, Crapcom’s) laziness and their intense greed has unfortunately been the norm this decade with their overuse of photogrammetry and shameless asset reuse in their “realistic” RE remakes/reimaginations. Now we’ve to worry about censorship, trigger warnings, AI assets along with their usual questionable DLCs cut from the main game, and the obscene micro transactions.
i was a bit sceptical of this video when i first saw the title, but upon watching all the way through you've made a very persuasive argument. dr1 is one of my personal fav games, and i was very excited to see this remaster, and even contemplated preordering it, which i have done only ever once before. i didn't at the time for multiple reasons outside of the game, but i'm glad i really got to see an in-depth analysis of this remaster before i bought it full price. a lot of what i saw being talked about were things i would personally put aside if the game met my own expectations, (stuff like voice acting, censorship, etc,) but being able to see things i do care about, such as presentation, gameplay changes and additions be somewhat underwhelming definitely brought me to reality. seeing just how brown and hard to see the art-style had become kinda made me frown, since i think the og 2006 game is one of my fav art-styles of any game, and still holds up really well today given the limitations imo. i still would like to try this remaster for myself to see what i think eventually, but i am glad to see really good criticism and what to expect when i finally get around to trying it. phenomenal video as always!!!
It’s definitely a disappointment in my eyes, just for baby gamers, censoring shit, shittier voice lines and dialogue, shittier lighting and just not as fun at all tbh
I’ve been waiting this video since I picked up the game. I was super hyped for the game when this was first released, and seeing some footage, everything looked great. Then I played it and…there were a lot more adjustments than I thought, and those weren’t a good thing. Since then I finished the game and I don’t think I’ve been this mixed on a game in a while. For every new/good change or adjustment I liked, there’s like two changes I didn’t like. And I got this from one stream/play session of the game, not even making it to day two. I was really looking forward to this review because most of the time playing this, I thought I was crazy or being an insistent nitpicker noticing some differences. And watching this video, I’m surprised of the things I didn’t see and the stuff I did was only the tip of the iceberg. I’m a huge fan of the OG, played it a ton so much that it became one of my favorites. But playing this? Just disappointed me on the things they could’ve added (a mission mode like Chop till you Drop, more costumes, more stores, more weapons) compared to what they actually added (survivor hints, dialogue changes, and a voice cast not as good as the original). You were on the money about this being for newer audiences than experienced vets of the game. I gifted the original to a friend and he struggled a bunch. Not even with the survivor AI but just everything like using the camera, taking books, or using weapons and whatnot. He watched me play this Remaster and thought all of it was overall better, which I can’t fault him entirely over. So thanks for this video. I’m glad there’s someone who noted a lot/all of the changes they made, aside from the surface level stuff. I will say some are fine to change, but a lot of it was unnecessary. It’s kinda to a point that, unless it is a huge overhaul that combines the quality of two games (or 4 counting both DLC Cases) to one, I’ll pass if they did a Deluxe Remaster of the sequel. Not unless they really did that game justice. I’m just overall underwhelmed by this Remaster. I loved some of Capcoms remakes and their output lately. So it was disappointing they made such a mixed bag of a remaster. (Apologies for the long comment, I had a lot to say about this remaster and wanted to say some stuff about it.)
It's fun and amazing. However I don't like the censorship, or bad voice acting and how no more challenging feats... it's to easy to progress too. Would be nice if they just added the old voice over and just improve the quality. Than add extra voice actors for all the other survivors.
Oh thank god someone else finally said it yeah the models look so uncanny that I don't understand how anyone ok'ed them in production, the fact that nobody seemed to call attention to it at all made me think I was going crazy. Also that window breaking anymation was absolutely terrible and looks so much worse than in the original.
One thing I don’t understand is all the people complaining about how much easier the AI is to deal with. If the difficulty comes from the AI just not doing what it’s supposed to that’s rly not a good thing. Besides that it is pretty lacking and it’s rly not good that the zombie AI just ignores them most of the time either. Gotta have it down the middle not both easier
I'll never forget the time I had an ai survivor back in the original just freeze up and stand still as they get grabbed, and grabbed, and grabbed and I had to keep going back to save them. And then they finally died.
The AI works as intended in the original besides their bad pathfinding around items and walls. People who complain about them being bad are just bad at the game.
@Chetoh when I say bad pathfinding I mean around walls and items. When people say the AI is bad these are the common complaints. “THEY STOP FOR NO REASON!!!” They stop for a reason you just aren’t paying enough attention to figure out the reason “THEY ARE SO DUMB THEY ARENT FOLLOWING MY COMMANDS” A lot of survivors just won’t follow your commands and that’s the point. If your survivors are dying because of bad path finding you’re having issues not related to bad path finding first
@@pokisal true. Theres always a reason why theyre acting weird. Yes, theyre dumb but it's possible to save them. On my first proper playthrough, I saved ALL survivors from the scoop without any problems. The only issue I had with them was getting stuck on potted plants but thats it.
I think the only reason people don't mention the cultists no longer praying is because they'd have to buy the game to find it whereas the other stuff was in press releases, a lot of people will nope out at the first hint of any censorship on principle and not bother going into it deeper because they don't really need to since it's about the principle not the extent and buying the game to check even for review could be taken as endorsement of the practice since negative review or not they got a sale.
@@ChiefMedicPururu The steam port is just that, a port, this is marketed and titled as a remaster but changes so much to the point that it doesn't feel like the same game.
Back in the day I was sad that I couldn't play Dead Rising 1 due to it being xbox exclusive. I played Dead Rising 2 on PC but that didn't scratch the itch for me, I found the non Capcom DR games to be weird and off in about everything. The moment they re-released DR 1 it I bought it day one. That version had some bugs and hiccups but I loved the game, and I cherish it to this day for what it was and is. Highly unique experience that was deeper than just killing zombies. Seeing this "remake" though, I knew it was cursed from the very first screenshots. Its so sad to see Capcom outsourcing their IP's once again, after what seemed like was a wake up call starting with RE 2 Remake. On the topic of RE games, I really liked RE 2 Remake but from the very first play through I knew it wasn't real RE 2 as well, being a nerd that watched crap ton of prototype and alpha Resident Evil games footage, I knew that they just lazily rehashed RE 1.5 and cut out the zipping system and called it a Remake. I was even willing to look past the, in my opinion brilliance of fixed camera angles in horror games, and zoomer's tears for having to learn tank controls. Remakes are sadly a creative murdering slop that new gamers are willing to gobble without a single thought, while not caring about franchises. And seeing this crap come out of under Capcoms name is just sad, considering that to this day only one Remake in video game's history was done proper, perfect even. It being Resident Evil 1 Remake, made by Capcom out of all the people...
From my position I don't like unmarked Scoops period, but I want to be spoonfed to some degree. I hate when games have a finite number of things to find but they never tell you how many are left or something like that. The unmarked Scoops are a lighter version of that principle due to how few of them there are, but it really sucks when it balloons up into the hundreds like treasure chests in Breath of the Wild or Genshin Impact or something. Oh, yeah, no, Special Forces having an infinite combo, that's cool. Yeah, that surely was very well thought out. I don't mind cutting Leadboards because I just assume at face that all game Leaderboards are stuffed with cheaters.
we’re getting an update when the physical version comes out. also turn off the shadow cache and set the graphics texture memory to 2G and it shouldn’t crash. zombie count might be bugged. didn’t run into the cultists bug. I agree on most of this though.
1:05:19 this game has the same problem oblivion was mock relentlessly for where when talking to a non player character they’ll have a voice actor for dialogue unique to them. But when they spout generic dialogue shared with other characters it will also be voiced by the person who recorded that dialogue. So with Ross here if you compare his voice when your talking with him during the scoop to the line of dialogue he just said right here it’s clearly a different person voicing him which breaks all consistently and immersion.
There has been a silent update on the game. I'm playing Infinity Mode at the time of this comment and so far, the enemy tracking got nerfed. Ex. The Special Forces Soldier only hit me at the last couple of shots.
@@Ghillie_Beast_yt that’s badass. I recently got into the series just this year. I’m personally baffled that so many fans and outsiders of this series can’t just appreciate or play the original. Like it needs to be “updated” for modern times when it’s easy to pick up and play. I stand that Dead Rising isn’t that hard of a game.
I had a great time playing through it. However, I got the platinum trophy and haven’t picked the game back up. I started re-playing DR 2 Off The Record
At the end of the day i think this version sucks alot more than the original, the immersion dies the second you rescue leah after her telling you about seeing her baby get eaten infront of her suddenly she goes "hey frank look at that poster! that can go viral on social media!" When you jump as Frank it feels like you are actually floating and the "weight" is just gone completely. Theres so many bugs at launch it feels very rushed and i don't like how Brad sounds monotone 24/7 regardless of context. They also used AI art in the game everywhere it looks very weird. Capcom's inability to get Frank's look right since 2006 is mind boogling and the devs even said "hes a middle age man" for the videos of DRDR. Just make him look like himself ffs. TJ not coming back is dumb and they didn't even ask him because they don't want to pay the extra cash. Their excuse for not bringing back voice actors was a dumb one and makes no sense.
*Makes popcorn and gets Soda* My first point for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster being made to me was to test to see the validity of the RE Engine's ability to handle many things on screen so I already knew going in its release was more of the arbitrary re-release then a proper Remaster. Presentation points seem to make sense and it even reveals points that are not initially well known like AI being used for some textures. Censorship the reason people shrug it off, because they look at it as not a big deal in comparison to the games QOL improvements. My problem with it is it creates unneeded abrasion with old fans of the game, and it to me just makes the game less to the original. Yet as we all know the game has many elements that if were talking about taste that ship has already sailed and also this is an M rated game I think your points do it more justice then I can type here. But I do know if you give companies an inch they will take a mile so prepare for more games in the future to be even more censored making M rated feel more like E for everyone because the "Modern Audience" cant apparently tolerate anything. The problem with Performance on PC Jake is its subjective, because peoples rigs are wildly different its hard to tell if peoples problems are cause of the game or because of there rig/drivers so take PC performance with a grain of salt. I have thought that the less zombies were done to make the game easier but its hard to tell if its difficulty or if its performance related could be one could be both. I do know on PC the game has the option to change the amount of Zombies on screen but its still less then the original on the max setting. Alot of QOL changes make the game much nicer to go through but to returning players the new content is meager but if your a new player its a much easier game to handle but I do agree they could have added much more to this game. The Level up system and game being SO much faster and easier I assume this was done to compensate for one thing and one thing alone. You see most get the idea of if your struggling just carry your levels to a 2nd run through and beat the game on that in the OG, you can still do it in the remaster, but its clear they wanted to make it so beating the game from level 1 is actually a doable thing and not a hellish experience if your new. Like you said this change was done specifically to cater to new comers at the expense of long time players because now the game to long time players is essentially easy mode. There is still hard moments but the original is a landslide where difficulty is concerned. The problem is it invalidates EVERY SINGLE PP book in the game because you'll max out before you beat the main game. Okay not entirely but all they do now is they make it so you reach Level 50 faster so there is no beneficial long time point to carry them where as before carrying them means you'll be a higher level before you reach the end of the game. Overall the game was designed to cater to the lower common denominators in terms of skill in new players and so Capcom can test the RE engine in other more unique conditions not that its a bad game but I feel that more polish and improvements can fix the game, and expand it. I also don't like the price being quintupled from the original when nothing of value gameplay wise outside of QOL changes, fan service, and graphical fidelity was added. Alot of people like it for the ease of access so we get a lot of new positive opinions but to long time players it fails to hold the original energy the original game had resulting in many older players ribbing the game for what it fails to achieve that the original did perfectly fine. If you want to play Dead rising 1 the "Deluxe Remaster" is perfectly fine if you want a modern iteration that's easier to delve into with Dead Rising 1 but if you want the original experience maintained, the game you should stick to is the original because the "Deluxe Remaster" fails to uphold that in many areas its also way cheaper then the "Deluxe Remaster". I am just glad Capcom lets you buy the original and didn't delist it like Rockstar so they can ham fist the GTA Trilogies Dysfunctional edition onto you.
Finally hearing someone not immediately praising the hell out of the original dead rising just because they hear others said it's good. The game has a lot of good things going, but I also find playing dead rising 2/3 more enjoyable, 1 does have a couple of problems, especially the survivor A.I. No amount of "this game is good play it man" is gonna sugercoat that A.I.
I'm replaying Dead Rising 3 right now. So underrated. The sheer amount of weapons you can create, the gore, the hilarious sexual situations. I mean Nick is boring, but the game is great
larry was the breaking point for me. I had hope for the game at least being enjoyable for the story again, but the fact they changed Larry was completely stupid. The whole irony of larry was that carlito's enemy was americans and their apparent obsession eith food and meat, yet was ultimately taken out by a non american. Now larry is basically Americanized and the whole point of Larry was (ironically) butchered.
Not a remaster, don't know why Crapcom called it that. It's DR1, but with all-new assets in a new engine. That's a remake, unlike RE2/3/4 which are re-imaginings, which even Capcom admitted in their 2022 Summer showcase.
Over all, i agree with basically everything you say. I still like the remake, again, its a way i can get my friends to play dead rising 1 in an easier way, and not as clunky. Then later i can have them play the original. Great video as always man.
I can fully understand it I thought I adored the re2 remake cause it was different from the original but when re4 remake came out I was like tf is this it's not doing what I thought it would do same here with drdr I just hope they don't delist the original so you can only play this eventually game companies are scrapping by with bs cause they know they can cause it's nostalgia bait
30:36 very rarely used, but these were also in the base DR2 with the training sword and it's variants, having the occasional use in bosses like seymour and i want to say the snipers? but i can't actually remember if the shield got pierced by the bullets so don't quote me on that.
for me im 50/50 on i like the gameplay and how they change the Survivors ai but there things i dont like that they changed like franks hair and they censor things.
I've been a fan of the original Dead Rising since I was learning my ABC's. It was always a major part of my childhood, being the only game I really ever played on my 360 before I moved to PC, and now that I'm 18 and I get to re-experience all of that again, but with the capacity to truly appreciate it just after I'd gotten back into the series, I couldn't not pre-order the game. I was ecstatic over it, even when hearing about Larry's redesign and Cliff's altered dialogue, even after hearing about the new VA's (I especially did not like Sean and Brad), even though the muted and sometimes blinding graphics looked weirdly out of place compared to the colourful original. I just wanted to see my favourite timeless game be touched up and given the benefits of modern lighting and graphics technology. That being said, it didn't disappoint me nearly as much as you make it out in this video. I'm not particularly sure if this is due to my youth at the time, but I still had very fond memories of the game. Asides from 5 Day Survivor, I virtually 100%'d the original when I was little. I never found the censorship to be much of a problem, even if it conflicted with the game's themes and narrative. The survivors' cringy dialogue bits were ignorable for the most part, though I will admit that it sucked some of the charm out of finding things yourself. I actually found the zombies to be incredibly frustrating to play against, partly because their grabs were much less forgiving than in the original, especially during Infinity Mode, though I did have a lot of moments chuckling at the various visual bugs (some zombies literally go flying when you kill them from a distance and they're in the air). I can however agree how absolutely tedious the special forces are, especially with their inclusion in Infinity Mode which I will get into shortly, and I really wish they did more with Cletus, the Hall family, even Larry and Carlito 3 (Bomb Collector) to a degree. I also hated how Frank's movement was changed, I much preferred the responsive and instant velocity that he had when starting into a run or turning around. It made hiding against bosses like Carlito 2 (Save the Professor) or the Hall family nigh impossible. The real problem for me though was Infinity Mode. I cannot believe they left it in the state that it is, because the only time that the game crashed was right as I'd unlocked 5 day survivor. I was going through Al Fresca into the Food Court, when suddenly it completely froze and a crash report came up. The way they handle the saves in Infinity Mode, I assume to prevent save scumming, is that if you exit the game prematurely at any point, whether through a crash or a deliberate close, it will completely erase the file you were using to play, meaning all of your progress, achievements and what-not that you gained are eradicated. I found a way past this eventually, thanks to one steam comment telling me how to preserve your Infinity Mode save, but it genuinely discouraged any kind of engagement I could've had with the mode until then. The player should not have to find a bypass around the game's own systems just to play the game. Additionally, the special forces absolutely SUCKED, especially on one run I had where Kent decided to spawn in the warehouse and absolutely kicked my ass, while I also had to juggle Kay constantly chasing after me, and also take out the 4+ soldiers roaming around who could stun lock me, and also worry about the zombies whose grabs are incredibly unfair. That was the only time I ever 'illegitimately' save scummed, because that fight absolutely tore me apart (even with the infinite durability book and the heavy machine gun) and there was no way I could've done that on my first try. Side note as well, one incredibly hilarious (and equally sad in hindsight) moment I had during the game was with the Sean fight. For context, Sean is one of my favourite bosses of all time, certainly my favourite of the series (sorry Adam fans). He's just incredibly versatile, requires your full attention and your reaction time to be on point, and punishes you appropriately if you mess up, all while having INCREDIBLY awesome aesthetics and build-up, and the reward being one of my favourite weapons to use in the entire game makes the fight actually worth doing, on top of having 5 rescuable survivors who are incredibly close to the security room and do not need to be assisted. Now, imagine that, but instead of all of that charm, all of that mystique, all of the difficulty of his fight, he just suddenly barrels out of the room as I leave and into Frank, never attacks and keeps pushing him in a specific direction forever waiting for you to kill him, all while spouting random one-liners that make him sound like he's nearing a climax ('The time for judgement has come!'). Yep, that happened on my FIRST playthrough, and I absolutely cracked up. I cannot believe a bug to this absurdity in one of the most iconic and built-up fights of the entire series could ever exist, but it at least made for a good laugh. That's how I no-hit Sean on my first run.
The only reason I’m getting it is cause I never played the OG. It always seemed too hard for me. Don’t get me wrong, the OG has much better leveling and VA but it’s too much for me 😭
The last good remake was Fire Emblem 2 / Fire Emblem Gaiden. That's it. People complain about the HD era taking away something from games but the post-HD era, with the 1080ps and 4Ks, the two console generations of PS4-5 to say, have been catastrophic. And remakes just got the brunt of it as many other games and genres did. But who cares, more games, what a time to be alive, amirite?
I played the original back in the day and I still own it, the Deluxe Remaster at least for me was good I had a lot of fun, probably if a friend ask me which one they should buy depending on how that person is, I'll point them at the Deluxe Remaster version if I know they only play new stuff and they have no patience, however if they were active gamers back in the 2000s or before, Dead Rising 2006 still the best choice.
Honestly while I do love the remake, I do agree with alot of what you said in the vid. Some of what you said I don’t agree with but a good chunk I do agree with and honestly am happy your bringing up valid criticisms with the game. Honestly is the game flawed? Oh yes Could they have done better? Yes Are there missed opportunities with what they could of added or did with the game? Yes Do I think the game is still worth buying and playing? Honestly yes. Despite all of the good and frankly legitimate criticisms you have bought up with the remake of dead rising, I still think the game is worth buying and playing since it still is an enjoyable and fun game at the end of the day. Even if personally I think they should of capped the pride of the game at 40 bucks max.
Agreed. The game has a lot of quality-of-life improvements, from the autosaves and improved survivor AI to more fluid controls. Censorship and lack of new content aside, I can appreciate this new interpretation of a classic game. It opens up the game to new audiences, which I think is the main purpose of this release. As classic as DR1 is, it has not aged the best in some aspects, most of which the remaster addresses.
@@NeoKokoro20agreed, I can still appreciate what the game has to offer and what it does Do right. Especially since as much as I love the original dead rising as well, let’s not pretend it has not aged horribly and frankly does have alot of flaws as well. Which is why I do view the remaster and original on equal footing. Both dames do stuff right and have issues but in the end are still fun to play

A casual mode lol, shows how bad people have become at games.
It would only be considered “new” if it was dead rising 5, but we didn’t get that
Well it is a remaster, not a remake
Dont let the toxic positivity crowd shout you down. Critique is how we improve the things we love! Great video man!

Problem is "remakes" always remove the charm the game had. I'm tired of remakes. Originals are almost always better or conveyed the vision properly.
couldn't have summed up how I feel about all these remakes better myself. i can finally put that feeling into words
But isn't that why they marketed it as a remaster?
@@isaacfaith9369 luckily DRDR still plays like the OG, but better.
Perfect explanation
Nothing can top originals unless a sequel could
Wow they actually used AI art in a $50 game?????? Does Capcom have no shame?
?
This makes 2 times where Capcom could’ve put Nick and Diego’s names on Carlito’s laptop and still haven’t
But TH-cam just isn't working...
i love your videos
One thing I want to mention is this game was NOT developed by any in-house Capcom studio.
It was outsourced to a Chinese studio named "NEOBARDS"
We are an a culture that is gorging on itself. There's no new progress, only remakes that devalue the original experience. It's like JPEG compression.
i dont know why Larry was so problematic, he was a butcher & Psychopath first and Asian second, if he's purpose was only "ha Asian guy" his Case would have been named "The Asian" or something
Outsourced devs were Chinese so they made him a White man because of Chinese censorship laws requiring positive depictions of Chinese nationals in international settings.
Because a fat slobbish Asian butcher is known stereotype.
A this point, Dead Rising 5 would take you to fucking space and save us all from nazi zombies, and I definitely did NOT want to see Chuck anymore after how they handled him and his daughter in 3
@@somethingelse9087 we do actually know what DR5 would have been, which is a prequel to 3&4 set in a Hispanic village starring chuck and a slightly older Katey (younger than she was in 3 but older than 2)
And while there wasn't nazis from what I can tell, one of the bosses did have a cyborg arm and they gave Katey the ability to control zombies with telepathic powers because of her infection...
For all, we know, this could probably be the last one
I wholelly agree with all of this. Its crazy how we tore apart DR 3 & 4, but people made so many excuses for this remake. Its like the fandom is trying to go backwards in a way.
I feel like the fanbase are mostly tourists now since most that played the original are either old enough to have a family or don’t even care enough to buy this “deluxe remaster.”
@@vault1021 true
The VA just sounds flat compaired to the OG.
I had a real issues with some of Brads VOs, the original was awesome in comparison.
The censorship is so so bad. It actually makes me angry 😡
They did cliff so dirty bruh 😭😭
"If capcom vancouver released this, people would have asked for DR to go back to the japanese branch of capcom"
this is a huge true fact, they would've gotten so much flak for "changing the original like this", but no one bats an eye when the original is changed by the japanese branch who originally developed the game.
If they didn’t get shut down, we would’ve gotten dead rising 5 but I don’t think it would’ve been good
Except that's not what happened. This wasn't made in house at Capcom in Japan, it was outsourced to a studio in China named Neobards.

That's with any Capcom game I've noticed.
Capcom fans seem to be gunning it to take the “worst fanbase” trophy from Nintendo fans, they’ve been unstoppable for years now.
It's the beta build?
God, I was already hesitant to buy this game, but now it's definitely not happening!

@@Ender41948 I feel like resident evil 3 remake got the most disrespect out of all of them
@@Ender41948 I hate pretty much all the new voices in the remakes, RE4 was especially bad, Leon,s voice sucks and doesn't suit him at all, Hunnigan sounds bored and terrible at the beginning, Ada sounds like she's recorded through a phone call and terrible voice work, pretty much every single voice is worse and of lesser talent and quality.
@@JakeJakers It stinks cuz the charge shot is a certified "Yes, that IS cool", but it just doesn't cut it.
41:23 so is this a thing on the console version? Neat. Also, thank you, for being the first in pointing out lots of new props not being usable
The chapter transtions being like the case file updates in-game is a nice touch! Great review, the points being made, sadly I agree with.
i was a bit sceptical of this video when i first saw the title, but upon watching all the way through you've made a very persuasive argument. dr1 is one of my personal fav games, and i was very excited to see this remaster, and even contemplated preordering it, which i have done only ever once before. i didn't at the time for multiple reasons outside of the game, but i'm glad i really got to see an in-depth analysis of this remaster before i bought it full price.
a lot of what i saw being talked about were things i would personally put aside if the game met my own expectations, (stuff like voice acting, censorship, etc,) but being able to see things i do care about, such as presentation, gameplay changes and additions be somewhat underwhelming definitely brought me to reality. seeing just how brown and hard to see the art-style had become kinda made me frown, since i think the og 2006 game is one of my fav art-styles of any game, and still holds up really well today given the limitations imo. i still would like to try this remaster for myself to see what i think eventually, but i am glad to see really good criticism and what to expect when i finally get around to trying it.
phenomenal video as always!!!
@@camharknessthe combo of death. I dont miss it 😅
The AI works as intended in the original besides their bad pathfinding around items and walls.
People who complain about them being bad are just bad at the game.
@Chetoh when I say bad pathfinding I mean around walls and items.
When people say the AI is bad these are the common complaints.
“THEY STOP FOR NO REASON!!!”
They stop for a reason you just aren’t paying enough attention to figure out the reason
“THEY ARE SO DUMB THEY ARENT FOLLOWING MY COMMANDS”
A lot of survivors just won’t follow your commands and that’s the point.
The only issue I had with them was getting stuck on potted plants but thats it.
man from an outsider on resident evil looking in I rememeber hearing nothing but praise for the remaster from friends.
The same thing happens in the Resident Evil fan base as well, especially with the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Why did they changed the rifles in the gun shop… those telescopic lever rifles look silly
This isn't a remaster or a remake, it's a re-release. A censored, watered down half-assed re-release with worse graphics.
No, the Steam port of DR1 is a re-release. DRDR is a remaster.
So people basically bought an Early Access version of the game before the physical release?
It’s nothing new
1:05:19 this game has the same problem oblivion was mock relentlessly for where when talking to a non player character they’ll have a voice actor for dialogue unique to them.
They should add a new difficulty and take out the time skip and auto saves. So you can somewhat experience the original.
Or just buy the original

@@Ghillie_Beast_yt that’s badass. I recently got into the series just this year. I’m personally baffled that so many fans and outsiders of this series can’t just appreciate or play the original. They definitely dropped the ball with this game. Unless it has all of the reinstatements from the original by mods, it holds no candle.
Thank you for clarifying that RE2 2019 is a Reimagining not a remake.
Been telling that to people for years. (Even made a video about it😉)
At the end of the day i think this version sucks alot more than the original, the immersion dies the second you rescue leah after her telling you about seeing her baby get eaten infront of her suddenly she goes "hey frank look at that poster! that can go viral on social media!"
When you jump as Frank it feels like you are actually floating and the "weight" is just gone completely.
*Makes popcorn and gets Soda*
My first point for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster being made to me was to test to see the validity of the RE Engine's ability to handle many things on screen so I already knew going in its release was more of the arbitrary re-release then a proper Remaster.
Modders will make Dead Rising great again! 🙏
1:22:23 they really gotta give bro his emergency backup
Finally hearing someone not immediately praising the hell out of the original dead rising just because they hear others said it's good. The game has a lot of good things going, but I also find playing dead rising 2/3 more enjoyable, 1 does have a couple of problems, especially the survivor A.I. No amount of "this game is good play it man" is gonna sugercoat that A.I.
This is a sole reason why i went out to buy original Instead.
I know the shield worked on zombies if they tried to hit you it would absorb their attack, but I don’t remember it working on guns
1:07:05 even funnier I saw a video where the player got that line of dialogue right after leaving the gun store
I really like your Dead Rising videos i feel like you always bring something new to the table

I would love to see a video going over your own tweaks to survivor missions and other things about the original games.
for me im 50/50 on i like the gameplay and how they change the Survivors ai but there things i dont like that they changed like franks hair and they censor things.
Way better than Dorkaxe’s video
They definitely marketed this game for your age group, if you were there when I actually came out you’d see it differently.
The only reason I’m getting it is cause I never played the OG. It always seemed too hard for me. Don’t get me wrong, the OG has much better leveling and VA but it’s too much for me 😭
Your money, your call.
Preach.
It’s like they didn’t learn from the video game crash

Oh yes
Could they have done better? Yes
Are there missed opportunities with what they could of added or did with the game? Yes
Do I think the game is still worth buying and playing?
