You haven't heard of CrossFit? Let me tell you about CrossFit.
CrossFit is a lifestyle in which you are prioritizing your health. The ability to do many different things at a high level of intensity.
I think it's the absolute best way to help you reach your fitness goals.
For me, it's making me happy. A fun way to get fit with a lot of people. The last person finishing is the just as important as the first one.
It's this team atmosphere that ends up making you better as an individual. It's camaraderie, that family that you end up building and the energy that you get back from it yourself, that's CrossFit to me.
You come to a CrossFit gym everybody knows your name, everybody loves you and you're a part of something bigger than just getting a workout.
CrossFit gave me that something extra that I kinda needed in life.
It's my outlet, I love it. It's my passion. It's commitment. CrossFit is a sport now.
I like the challenge, I compete with myself, I'm healthier, I am stronger. Even though I was sore, I was, you know, getting a little discouraged, you know ... I felt accountable because my community, or I felt accountable to my class because they were looking for me there.
Finding CrossFit and then having to work really dang hard for whatever your goal is ... whether its to compete or just get a damn pull-up. I love it 'cause the workout's different everyday, I can come in and I don't know what I'm doing.
Everyone is welcoming, everyone is cheering you on. They don't let you quit even if you wanna quit.
We all share this experience, which is emotional. It doesn't look emotional, it looks like people working out ... but it's emotional. I mean it's raw, it's intense, it's incredible, it's freakin' awesome. I'm gonna keep doing it for a long time, I hope.
CrossFit, to me, is a fitness program where the reward for doing well is the ability to express your fitness in everyday life in as many different planes or as many different activities that you can possibly imagine.
People walk through the door and say, 'Hey, where's all the machines?' We're the machines!
    -

I injured my lower back about 15 years ago...lifting something heavy while at work. I went to the Hughston Clinic believing I may have slipped a disk. Fortunately, it was just a severe muscle strain. For the past 15 years the pain has never subsided. I've just learned to live with it. Some days have been better than others and over the years I've been to chiropractors and worked out in "traditional" gyms to no avail. The pain has ALWAYS been there...UNTIL recently.
For a little over a year now, I've been working out in a CrossFit gym....good coach....first and foremost, he teaches good form before going heavier on the weight.
A few weeks ago I noticed, kind of surprisingly, my back pain was GONE!! 100% GONE!! I've really enjoyed Crossfit a lot. I will probably never compete, but I feel better than I have in over 15 years. I'll be 43 in September.
Crossfit has been a Godsend for me.
I don't understand all the haters.
Anyway, it has definitely helped! #thankful

+SS Wolf1993 No bull crap! I was bedridden at 355 lbs. herniated disc and diagnosed
with degenerative disc disease in Nov. 2014 after physical therapy and 6
months in the gym I decided to do Crossfit. I am now down 115 lbs and
stronger and faster than I have been since I was a teenager! I no longer
have back pain other than workout soreness (which I welcome), no more
blood pressure meds, sleep apnea, and no longer borderline diabetic. The
class, coaches and like minded friends keep me motivated. It might not
be for everybody but it works for me! I don't understand why so many
people bash it. If you're out doing anything to try to improve your mind
and body I'm all for it! be it Yoga, bodybuilding, weightlifting or
even running! better than being a couch potato!

Such a broad, vague, and subjective comment. Obvious bias and prejudice. Millions of unfit and sedentary people are injured on the job and in daily life. People that are injured during Crossfit training make up a small number compared to the total of accidents/injuries requiring physical therapy.

Crossfit has helped me since joining in June shed 10kg. Im 5'6 weighed 82kg now down to 71.5kg. When I started I could barely front squat 25kg today I lifted 65kg. Although I ran I was never really good at it. 2 weeks ago I completed a half marathon in 2:06mins to many that's a long time, to me it was a huge achievement. Granted it's not for everyone. But everyone should at least try it before giving out about it. I love it.

I love CrossFit. I started my own biz, had tons of back pain. Took me a few months to get talked into going to a class but that's all it took and I was hooked. I had to invest every penny into my biz but CrossFit was my splurge. It made me stronger, not just physically but mentally. You realize you can do more than you expect. I've been smoking for over 20 yrs and I'm about to quit. Not cuz i work out but bc it hinders my workout. There's a free class on Sat, don't knock it til you try it

I've been doing crossfit in my garage for a year now. You don't need the money to afford a box, create your own box. Even if you don't have a garage, put the equipment inside and drag what you need outside for the wod. Your neighbors will eventually see what you're doing and want to join, creating a new CrossFit family. Teach them and spread your knowledge of CrossFit. All you need is a barbell with some weights and you can do 50% of the workouts.

      CrossFit® Ahhh, Crossfit.
Or, how I like to call it, giving yourself scoliosis for time.
It's a scam. Brb, all it takes to be a "coach" is 1000$ and a a two hour training seminar. lulz.
Crossfit is a cult full of people who think that they're better than everyone else. "We'll be in the gym, training if you have any questions." (nice grammar, by the way. Very professional).
You see much more discipline and dedication in any other community other than Crossfitters.

+Kennel By curiosity, why are you even watching a video about CF intro? Got here by accident or by video chain? Nah, you just typed crossfit in the search bar and decided to hate on it. It's kinda sad that people like you don't seem to realize that it does change people for the best. Figured, hey, I'll check it out. On that video, I saw this video in the suggestions box.

I was always going to the gym and felt like I was getting results slowly, even with a heck of a diet. Started CrossFit two months ago and my stamina is through the roof. Once in a while I still go to the gym, except there's a huge difference: I no longer feel "beaten" by the gym. In fact I do more weight and go twice as hard! I may not look like I've grown too much, but I certainly feel stronger than ever

I agree to that. It allow someone to work out with people to push each other, something I miss at times. At the same time with any workout you have to realize your goal. Crossfit was way to dangerous to do to meet my workout goal so I do my own workout and it works for me. When anyone wants to workout they have to understand their goal first.

There are some great benefits to joining a crossfit community. The one negative I have seen is the level of arrogance of certain crossfitters when it comes to "fitness" or defining an "athlete". The forms I've learned such as proper back position has already helped me outside of fitness. I have no regrets joining and wanting to keep pushing myself as hard as I can. I haven't done CrossFit, so maybe my opinion means nothing. However, I did take karate and kickboxing. The ideology was the same. Many times people give up and have every excuse in the world why they want to quit. The problems are in the mind, not the body. My instructors and my senseis never let me quit, and I'm glad for it. My mind learned to tell my body to quit being whiny, and that yes, I CAN do this. And I did. Every time. I was much stronger than I realized, but if they hadn't pushed me, I wouldn't have known that I could have pushed past my self-imposed limits.

You make a legitimate point, but I have to say - Obviously, poor form is not recommended or endorsed. The template given to CF trainers (I am one) is Biomechanics (good form) -> Consistency (body awareness and sef-correction) -> Intensity (pushing limits of strength or power comes only AFTER consistent biomechanics). Intensity is meant to be trained progressively, just as strength or endurance would be. It is a weakness of human nature, not CF, that so many trainers misunderstand or suck.

That's because CrossFit isn't about only elite lifts. So you can snatch, clean and jerk, or back squat ridiculously heavy weights but if that's all you do, it's not functional strength. It serves no purpose other than to show off.
Show me a person that can do those lifts and do box jumps, sprints, and pull ups....in the same workout. That's CrossFit.
I've been to 8 CrossFit workouts so far and I love it. I would go more but the gym is 30 minutes away and I work two jobs.

I'm glad to see "regular" people here. I've always had this idea that I would be completely out of place, sized up and found wanting by a room full of people who are already in excellent shape and probably 25 years younger than I am. It seems I was mistaken. I wonder though, is this a good place to start for someone like me who is not in shape? Or should I consider a regular gym instead?

Yes, go! I am female 60 and started 3 months ago. Had no clue. I hav always worked out at home, but was being consistent or pushing myself. Started CF and could barely lift the 15 # barbell. I can now do a 35# power clean and 85# deadlift There are all sizes and ages 70+ in my classes. No judgement area and everyone very supportive!! Good luck. Hope you’ll give it a try!

That's not that bad. In Austin, TX 120 will barely get you 2 classes a week. If you want unlimited, it's something like 200. The only way to bring it down is to pay for a whole year in advance, and that'll be 1.5k and up.

Here's why I think CrossFit is great: I am more fit, more explosive, and stronger than I have ever been before. My mobility, flexibility, and core strength have improved noticeably. I have great coaches who who work with me to help me improve. I am constantly challenged by the workouts. There are always new things to learn. The best part is that I am part of a amazing community of like minded people who are out there pushing themselves to improve every single day. So go for it, prove me wrong.

What Mike said. Like anything else, people focus on the negative. They like to laugh when people do something wrong and then paint a picture that it is everyone. My coaches happen to be amazing. They're certified in more than just Crossfit and not only will they not allow you to overdo a movement, they foster a culture within the gym that is in line with that. If the workout calls for 135# and you feel like you can only do 65# that day, no one is going to give you crap. On the contrary.

I agree with Karen Rektor. Just like other forms of exercise like Yoga, Pilates, Running, etc., Crossfit is NOT for everyone. Simple marketing 101 teaches you that you can't be all things to all people. I've experienced it, I've gotten hurt and I've helped many people recover from injuries from working out at Crossfit. There are certain people who have no business taking a Crossfit class. Period. I would be disappointed if Crossfit negates that fact.

For all you haters hiding behind your computer screen, and saying "oh they aren't doing exercise right" "that's not how you do it". Well then YOU try it. I would sure love to see you try to back-squat 160 pounds. I would sure love to see you try to do 30 pull-ups. I would sure love to see you try to do crossfit and call it a waste. Crossfit is not a waste, crossfit is a lifestyle of determination and hard work. So go, try crossfit, and I'd like to see you try to call it a waste.

They gave you rest - squats. You didn't have to do more than 10 cleans in a row. Also, the weight probably wasn't anywhere near your 1 rep max. A compound movement like clean, at high reps and low weight plus a simple movement like squat/sit up is a great full body endurance workout.

Hey, when I started Crossfit, i didn't have any athletic background or did something either than eating and playing videogames. I stared doing everything modified for my "level" and I felt comfortable and had no pain, well, the muscle pain is normal when you start practicing any sport. Nowadays I am very healthy person, I feel very happy with Crossfit and I have never had ANY injuries. Also i'm 14 years old.

If your goal is to build bigger muscles then crossfit is not the right program.
I have been in bodybuilding before trying crossfit programs in Bando martial art (a Burmese martial art)
Crossfit basically helps you to burn fat, build your stamina and endurance.
Bodybuilding helps you to get in shape but its results start to fade away just by stopping to go to the gym for a month.
That was my own experience :)

    • @fightclubskaters2083
      @fightclubskaters2083 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

bodybuilding probably burns fat more effectively then most crossfit programs, and why would you stop going to the gym for a month anyway?

Ultimately, form is your own responsibility. Lower your weight and practice. It'll take you a few months to develop proper form for a lift like clean or snatch. And don't lift heavy during the WOD until you've practiced with that weight enough. It's called common sense. Squats require form at heavier weights. For body weight squats all you need is some ankle and hip flexibility. Safer ways to build muscle endurance than high rep air squats? Like what?
