Alright. It is time to seriously she'd some light. I have worked out with regular gyms for years upon years. I trained with my brother and cousin who are both personal trainers. I moved to Crossfit to see if it was as big of a joke as everyone says. I had people loving it and people hating it. Here is what I have found... Crossfit is a fantastic workout. With proper discipline, and patience, form can be great. And you can get in fantastic shape. BUT with coaches that are improperly trained mixed with large groups of people together you create a scary situation. IF you slowly work up in movements and you have a good coach that really helps perfect your form, you will do great. BUT if you have a large class, a crappy coach, and a poor attitude you are going to be improperly lifting way too much weight, way too fast, just to "RX" if you really focus on mastering each skill with light weights then moving up you will absolutely love Crossfit. If you do it wrong as stated above, you are going to become another whiny waste of skin on TH-cam batching about all us other people actually spending our time getting into good shape and securing a healthy future. Take it however you want, I have done my research.
Most people have a bad misconception about Crossfit. I had my doubts as well. I thought everybody bowed down to rich fronting before a workout. Then a good friend of mines invited me to the cross fit gym he worked out at and I love it. I'm former football player and it's hard to find workouts that push you but cross fit did it for me. Before cross fit I achieved every lift I set my goals on. So the traditional gym workouts had got boring fast. I do a form of cross fit in every work and have seen more gains than I did when doing traditional body building workouts. I just tell people to try it before you judge it.
The great thing about crossfit is that it can be infinitely modified. Crossfit trainers are highly knowledgable. Working with them to decide your limits and programming within those limits is very doable!
To all the cynical haters (who, of course have never actually tried it) I went to a regular gym for 20 years. I went to CF for 12 months and my fitness increased beyond what that 20 years did. I have never ever seen one injury in CF (I belonged to 2 Crossfit gyms) and never met one single person who tried it and didnt like it. Ever. But what I have seen, time and time again, is people who come from regular gyms who think they can do this (myself included) and they get crushed on their first workout. Just because you can lift a heavy weight does NOT make you fit, that just makes you strong. CF makes you STRONG and FIT. So If you want to stay on your pointless elliptical machines, sitting on your cycles whilst reading you magazines and do your bicep curls in front of a mirror between checking your emails then stick with a regular gym. But stop trying to discourage people who want to move beyond that with your ignorance of a lifestyle you have never even tried.
Not sure why you think I make the point 'irrelevant' to be honest. And you don't elaborate on that so anyway.....moving on. I definitely take your point about form. But that point stands in both gym or Crossfit class. But I have been to classes now for almost 2 years (it was while ago when i wrote that first post), and what you say simply isn't true. You may be basing it on youtube videos or something, but I suspect not from actually attending a class. I threw my back out recently, not Crossfit related, and nothing serious, just spazm. but the trainers were so professional that they wouldn't even allow me back to do the most simplest exercise when i returned. I was only allowed to do stretches. It's now been a month back and I'm feeling completely healed from it but even now they still insist on scaling me down because they don't want me putting weight over form. That doesn't sound quiet like the picture you and other anti Crossfitters are portraying does it. And as for the rings comment. Sorry Ravi but you are wrong.. 99% simply do 'ring pull ups' (hold them while standing on the ground , lean back abut 45 degrees and pull yourself towards them) Thats hardly gymnastics is it. You really should check this out by visiting a local CF. Don't base your observations on youtube. Try it with an open mind. I bet you'll like it.
Crossfit is the best choice I have made in the past 5 years. 9 months in, 10 kg lighter and 6 pack at 51 years old. I ain't complaining i'm just loving it. Bring on next WOD. Looking great in my new clothes.
This Has to be one of the best "What is CrossFit?" video's out there! Well Done guys.. and thank you! It will be Great to use this as an introduction video for people looking to find out more!
It seems like circuit training meets aerobic class. The class atmosphere probably helps people stay motivated. As for me, the more crowded it gets the distractions creep in. Also the motions they use go against control and building true strength. Seems like a novice could really get hurt. Not for me but I see how it might be ideal for some.
Good video, very well put together! I am always looking for great videos to introduce family and friends to CrossFit that hit all the right points without being to intimidating.
I really didn't know what I was missing out! I fell in love with watching these videos on youtube watching people do crossfit. I started to do interval timing workouts short but intense. I joined the gym ,but I want to squat for ever! I love squatting I love the pain and I get mad when a workout is not intense I love short intense workouts not long and not worth it. I want to this and the money is my concern is it expensive? & I would have to quit going to the gym of course when doing this....
I'm thinking about starting (there's a Crossfit right by my apartment) -- but I'm pathetically out of shape. I'm not overweight, but I almost never exercise and even when I do, it's cardio-type stuff. So I'm intimidated by all the super fit people I see at the local Crossfit.
Cross fit is MMA Training from the late 90s early 2,000s. Cross fit stole it, rebranded and sold it as cross fit. Cross fit even stole the MAA attire (Sprawl shorts in particular) and rebranded it as cross fit attire.
@@hanswurst1541 --- well the russian hockey team in the 70's did OL lifts, POWERlifts, all kinds of stuff , this , that , mobility metabolic training, functional training (... but it was'nt crossfit --- THEY CAL;LED IT XTRAINING !!!!!!!!! like said : not closely resembling crossfit
I would love to start CrossFit, but I am fairly nervous about it, only because I have had a total hip replacement and reconstruction. I have searched the internet for "restrictions" for replacements. I have found so many (which I break all of, repeatedly), but they vary so much that I'm not sure what not to do. Would it be safe to say that I could do several of these activities with no issue?
Protein, Carbs and Fats are all as important as the 1 from the other. The Question is the quality you choose for each, and total calories it comes down to that your consuming.. and of course how active you are on a day to day and weekly basis...
@Cristina Crossfit is expensive. I pay $179 per month for 3 days per week (I'm also in D.C.). But, I love my box and if you find a good one, you won't think twice about quiting your gym.
Hi, my names Ashley, I'm 18, and I really want to start crossfit in the near future! I am a gymnast and all these types of movements fascinate me. The only question that I have is will this be possible for me since I am a vegetarian? (I have been since I was 11). Any thoughts?
Im so gonna get cruxified for this but I'm just not a fan of lifting so much weights for high reps within time that will lead to injury. And I'm fit. and YES this IS a cult
Crossfit: you go to a circuit, do a lot of sloppy exercises as fast as you can with someone screaming and 'motivating' you then you high five your buddies in the end. Oh, and all these in great shape people on the video .. yeah they reached that shape just by doing crossfit, ok ? No, that had nothing to do with their strict diets and nothing to do with their many years going to regular gyms .. not at all (sarcasm).
these guys think they invented "functional movement" excises. news flash; all forms of excises are for functional movement. though i like the circuit system: minus the bad lifts.
Arma3holic Dude you have to realize why they are doing it like that before you critisize...they are not doing strict pullups to work on their lats, their are doing them like that cause they need a whole body movement that ll keep their anaerobic levels high but not too taxing so they ll get burned fast and not be able to complete their circuit. You see if you actually ever tried a crossfit workout with strict pullups you would get your answer pretty damn fast....its all about the goals of this type of training so its not a bad form is a different movement all together....as for you i can bet anything you would have a puke bucket next to you while on your fours like a little bitch.....
i don't think so i train 4 times a week with EDGE gym personal trainers. And i have tried Crossfit.. its stupid many new people get injuries quickly. dreadful.
norkoilija yes there are all different type of pull ups in cross fit but all are done with kipping or momentum. The only thing that is happening in a cross fit pull up is injuries.
If being vegetarian has worked for you 7 years it should work now. Maybe you should add some more protein Being vegetarian doesn't take anything away from you. There has been strong mans in top 5 which are vegetarian, strongman the sport where you would think that you need most protein and strenght, but still, you can get all that from vegetables. Just be clever.
oh my god the pull ups and muscle ups you are showing in your video have terrible technique. you use way to much momentum. try not wiggling with your body around like that and do the proper form pull up and muscle up. i bet you won't do one!

This is the best video I've seen explaining everything CrossFit is in the shortest way possible.

Hay Mark - no. I was comparing the results from one year. I've been doing it 2 years now. still loving it!!!!
BolanKeith same here. nothing beats crossfit.

so in MMA you do olympic weighlifting and gymnastics like muscle ups, pullups and so on? i dont think so

Go for it! You're young and the sooner you start, the sooner I'll see you in the Crossfit Games! :) best of luck!
The only limit with crossfit is the person doing it. Every movement can be "prescribed" where you do the movement prescribed to your ability.
amazing guys so inspirational
I just would like to know what is more important in Crossfit...carbs or proteins???

I have been doing crossfit for 4 yrs now and funny the keyboard warriors on here but never have seen someone come in face to face and talk crap.
Do you even lift correctly ?
Gteat sport for nearly everyone to take part in. Not for elite (and probably drug-using) athletes only. The world needs this badly! Love ya
Who shouldn't do cross fit? Back pain sufferers? Cardiac?
Im so gonna get cruxified for this but I'm just not a fan of lifting so much weights for high reps within time that will lead to injury. And I'm fit. and YES this IS a cult

don't all athletes, in every discipline, get joint deterioration at some point?
these guys think they invented "functional movement" excises. news flash; all forms of excises are for functional movement. though i like the circuit system: minus the bad lifts.
So a girl who had no idea what crossfit was won a crossfit competition? So there's nothing to learn?

PranaV pradhan fighters dont do heavy lifting. crossfitters do from weighlifting to powerlifting.

It lacks quality
Crossfit is gay #RepsForJesus
Crossfit... use bad form to exhaustion, and get injuries. Look at their pull ups its laughable.
There are lot of different types of pull ups in crossfit.
norkoilija
Show me 1 on this video.
Arma3holic Dude you have to realize why they are doing it like that before you critisize...they are not doing strict pullups to work on their lats, their are doing them like that cause they need a whole body movement that ll keep their anaerobic levels high but not too taxing so they ll get burned fast and not be able to complete their circuit.

yikes, talk about hard on the joints. i predict anyone who does it seriously will have some joint deterioration at some point.
a cupbord is man made not natural but i see what she is trying to say
Cross fit is for people who don't know how to lift properly. ahahaha :) let's see how much hell this raises.
still...nobody knows what crossfit programming is.
Do these people have a job?????
Crossfit is the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time.
