    My wife had a Roybi battery she uses for a hot glue gun. They make a stapler. Its cheaper than the M12 one since I don't have those batteries. I bought that. I have a air stapler, but its a Harbor Freight one and it sucks. I did it with the battery powered one and it worked well other than the tip is a little large and didn't work well in a few tighter spots. Nothing a tack hammer didn't hand finish driving home. Get a staple remover (specific tool). Makes it way easier, because the last guy that did that seat cover put a ton of staples in it... yeah that last guy was me! I installed the same cover you did on the same vintage seat! Looks pretty now.... Maybe I will finally list that bike to reclaim the space in the garage.

    Fuel is leaking into the exhaust. Shut fuel off and run carb dry before putting it away.

    Love how you use Snap On tools, I do the same. Lot's of guys that don't work on stuff all the time always complain about how expensive they are, but you get what you pay for, especially with tools. Shows you're a true tech that cares about the outcome of his work! Great show. LOVE Lewis, what a cute shop dog!

    i had a brand new ktm 400sx back in 2000, same problem. turns out it was a plastic sliver from inside the fuel tank that caused the problem with carburetor.

  • @matthewmcallister8845

    Is possible the reeds are getting stuck closed? Possibly worked when you sprayed brake clean only because it was already vaporized? Definitely looked like the float was off also. 60% angle to set mine. Love puzzles like that. Fun when you solve them.

    Great job diagnosing the problem with the KTM starting issue. I'm having a similar problem with a 2008 KLX 450R which sat for a year ( It ran great with no issues before it sat). I took the carb off and thouroughly cleaned it and the jets in the ultrasonic cleaner. I changed the spark plug to a new one, filled the tank with fresh 93 non ethanol fuel, put the carb back in and rode the bike for 30 mins. It couldn't have been running any better (sounded , ran , and idled great). I started it back up again a few hours later with no problem. The next day, the bike wouldn't start up. It would occaionally start and die out right away. It also would also occasionally backfire very loudly when trying to start. What do you suspect may be the problem?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh. Might check the mid body gasket. Those things are always causing problems. Could have been fine after you cleaned but then squeezed a little chunk out over a hole.

    • @tactical1224
      @tactical1224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highlandcycles UPDATE: I just pulled the spark plug and it was fouled (carbon - flat black), so I put another one in and it started right up and was idling fine. I started to lean it out with the fuel screw and it had no effect, even when fully turned in.. I pulled the new plug after idling approx. 1 minute and it was already coated flat black, so it's running rich causing the spark plug to foul. I know this would indicate that the pilot jet is too big, but I don't see how it ran fine on this jetting before...Any ideas? What would you recommend I do to fix this? Pull the carb again and try a smaller pilot jet?

    • @tactical1224
      @tactical1224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highlandcycles I was under the impression that the mid body gasket could only restrict the flow of fuel, but you are saying it can also cause the carburetor to run rich, like I'm experiencing? Thank you..I appreciate your help!

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tactical1224 it can do both. It’s a weird thing. Sometimes they block stuff sometimes the let fuel by. It’s just worth doing since it’s an older carb
