There was a palpable tension as the group was planning their ambush... The chat was going crazy at the time...half of them were agitated about it taking so long...the other half was encouraging them to think it through... Then when the Tomb Takers came...Fjord's pragmatic decision to have the ranger squad slow them down was chilling: we've seen moments where Fjord has gone down a dark path...it's a big part of his character...but that? Just making that decision without the Nein was a big moment. A tough call. And then...losing Frumpkin was like something out of a horror movie...only for everything to completely turn-around with that decisive decimation of the Tomb Takers. Total relief. More than half of their group taken out in an instant. The ambush was worth it. Yes; the Mighty Nein's long rest was interrupted...and Lucien & Cree are still alive. But the Nein aren't running in as blind as before...they understand Lucien's capabilities more this time; and they now strongly outnumber him. Hopefully that's enough.
They were more ready for him this time, and that trap cut the future odds down from a 8v5 with a power imbalance against them, to a 8v2 with the power imbalance in their favor. The only thing that could have made that trap more successful was possibly having a secondary trap to set off once they all arrived to hit them again, (Fluffernutter, oil and a fire to attract the brown mold possibly, anything to slow them down more, or draw their attention away from escaping) and having better positioning for those with counterspell, which couldn't really be helped with how initiative played out. What remains of the Tomb Takers are now *fleeing* refusing to engage and instead trying to delay the party and go for their goal. I think Lucien knows that if they get caught again and can't bug out, they are fucked. All in all, tough decisions, good plays, and an overall success, but there's still more work to do. The Mighty Nein will see this through to the end, and their chances are good.

Just going to toss this out there. The Ambush went as well as can be expected given how long they argued about it. The sad thing is they are going into the fight in the same state that they fought the last time... Hopefully something allows them some rest. Never thought I would say this but GO Monsters GO... Is it Thursday yet?
They are in a WAY better shape this time I feel, in exchange for 3 members of the TT dead, only Jester is completly empty. I loved this episode, can't wait for thursday :D
@tycoonmike well in fairness they didn't really anticipate the TT being able to teleport with anything other than word of recall since clerics don't get many teleport spells. The dimension door was thanks to Cree's cloak. but regardless they wouldn't fight to a standstill, the m9 would've destroyed them.
@tycoonmike I can somewhat understand where he's coming from, simply because the prospect of having all the MIX plus Essek at full power against the heavily damaged TT would make the fight a whole lot more comfortable. That being said, I agree, their trap worked out flawlessly and way better than I could've ever imagined, so his assessment of the situation strikes me as overly pessimistic as well.
@tycoonmike Hey Mike, Didn't they establish that any teleportation in or near aore was iffy at best. Maybe Lucian and co are now a part of a nice rock formation :D
The Divinity Original Sin 2 reference made me happy. That game has not gotten the big hype it deserves back when it released and maybe now a few more souls try it :D
i've only played like 5 hours of it but it's an amazing game. i saw a ton of praise for it from critics when it released, but you're right that it never got a ton of mainstream attention. matt's reference definitely reminded me that i need to put more time into it haha
DOS2 was (comparatively, for the genre) a huge success; it came out to universal acclaim, sold millions and took home a bunch of awards. I don't recall an isometric RPG _ever_ capturing that much mainstream attention. The genre had been, by and large, more famous and influential than it was profitable - titles like Fallout, and Baldur's Gate heavily inform today's games, but at the time they sold to a fairly niche audience. Most of the Renaissance games (Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin) had similar sales trends. DOS2 is probably the most successful game of this new wave of WRPGs.
I was about to say that D:OS 2 actually got a whole lot of attention, but it seems our bud@@ikaemos already got that covered. I can't count how many times I've seen that game referenced or recommended (to the point that even Matt is mentioning it!), and that's unprecedented for the genre.
You can't be serious, GamePanda. DOS2 had an amazing release, received multiple GOTYs, and continued to be tremendously popular even until now. I agree with you about it being a great game, but your perspective on its success truly surprises me.

The fact he went to Fjord to make the decision always gives me chills..Althought it was a hard decision to make, for Fjord to look at the road ahead and the friends asleep next to him, it shows how much he believed in everyone to allow them to try and give them all the time they can to rest. They're definitely not in the same situation as before. Even if they're low on resources, they've tipped the action economy in their favor so heavily that a direct confrontation will almost certainly favor them.

I forgot this is the episode where Matt inspired the cursed thought in my head of a porn parody called "The Clovis CumClave" Bad Matt. Bad Dragon 😂❤
Good points all :) But you just know that AH Trent is gonna show up at the worst possible time... I cant wait for the next part.
Just commenting again to remind you that your editing and highlights are amazing
thank you!
These are the only YT videos I watch with the settings menu open, just so I don't miss any section names. @marisharaygun, awesome job as always.
Unironically though, the Chroma Conclave edition Bad Dragon thing would be awesome
I fucking love your timestamps on the videos, top tier stuff.
I listen to the show at work, and often miss the fun interactions between everyone :) love watching these!
M:Travis what you got? T: "FIFTY!" M: 49 points of freezing damage, Jester? L: "seven…"
This is great editing! You found all the little chatty moments between the cast that I always miss
thank you for always compiling these after episodes, i love listening to them randomly while multitasking ghjbfhjfk also seeing the titles you put for each section always makes me smile lol 💕
glad you like them! consider them my thank you to you for you wonderful art 😊
O hi! I literally just came from your channel watching ur amazing art to this one to watch the great highlights videos!! :D
Yo mad props to the ranger team, they died like frogs in a blender, but they fucking made those bastard tomb takers pay for every inch.
It was an awesome episode!
I'm proud of this chaos crew. As a wise man once said: "Best Plan Ever!"
The only thing they lack is party v party experience. Priority no 1 - F*ck the Cleric.
But nvm, it just gives us a better story. :)
I'm honestly glad they forgot or that Cree didnt die. Makes things more interesting and I cant wait to see more or Aeor!!! :D
Watching these videos on a Monday really makes me happier. Thank you so much!
I love these videos so much bc I’m not caught up on C2 yet but I like hanging out in fandom spaces. So these have been great in keeping me up to date. Much thanks
I can’t wait for the next episode this week! So many questions and things we need explained or answered!
YES IKR!! With the episode before this one, we kinda knew what was gonna happen. Fight lizards, explore a bit, plan ambush, show tower, ambush executed. Something like that. But honestly, I have no idea what will happen next episode. I just hope for more bonding between our wizard bois
SPOILERS:
Coming back to this AFTER the sprinkle reveal just takes me back to when we had no idea what was going on here, no one paid attention to that random check, and I love it!
Laura's "fail" face when she rolls 1's is just heartbreaking.
huh, just noticed Travis's shirt Slaughter Maneuver indeed.
Just wanna thank Marisharaygun for these highlights. It's really helping me catch up. Also, the timestamp titles are just fantastic lol.
Oh boy, i know he needed to sacrifice the rangers, *but damn its gonna hurt if Dagen died*
edit- OH THANK GOD
How glad I am that there's episodes are a thing cannot be stated in words
The return of Henry Crabgrass!
16:27 Matt's "nobody paid for that" is such gold✨👌🏽
Beau: *smooch and light tap on butt*
Yasha: THWAP! *wink*
Considering Beau and Yasha, you know they struggle snuggle and wrastle!
Thank you for putting these together!!!!
00:58 Marisha just smiling and clapping thinking "Finally, I will be rid of this fool."

YOUR TIME STAMPS ARE THE BESSSST
"LUCIAN I'M BEGGING YOU TO STOP BEING A LITTLE BITCH"
26:44 Slaughter Manuever shirt goes hard as Fjord sends a bunch of rangers who were 3 days away from retirement off to their awful, torturous deaths
I honestly really love your highlights even as someone who has finished C2 it’s great to have these moments to come back to. With ADHD I forget my fave quotes and moments or episodes so getting them all in a fastrecollection let’s me know where and what episode I want to rewatch. Well 3dited with hilarious captions, and you pick all the good moments. Your awesome
Thank you so much for making these ❤
The fact he went to Fjord to make the decision always gives me chills..Althought it was a hard decision to make, for Fjord to look at the road ahead and the friends asleep next to him, it shows how much he believed in everyone to allow them to try and give them all the time they can to rest.
True…leadership.
They're definitely not in the same situation as before. Even if they're low on resources, they've tipped the action economy in their favor so heavily that a direct confrontation will almost certainly favor them.
8 vs 2, Essek at full, all the martial fighters at full. The clerics are all tapped, which is less than ideal, but all in all, they're still in better shape.
Also Yasha is infinitely stronger than she was before.
She basically has an unlimited hp pool as long as she is raging.
these highlights are the best thing ever ♥
I literally get so hyped every monday bc of these highlights
