case 1. less retention time by design
Ans. we can easily do this
(i) by increasing flow rate
(ii) by decreasing volume of digester
case 2. decrease digestion time and thereby decrease retention time
(i) increase temperature
(ii) control growth parameters by adding specific bacteria
this may require research
