In June and July 2023, Sue and I traveled over 5,300 miles in our motorhome from Ohio. We traveled through ten states including Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota. We visited several National Parks, National Monuments, and State Parks with the pinnacle of our trip being Glacier National Park in northwest Montana. We spent seven nights on the west side of Glacier National Park at Apgar Campground, and five nights on the east side of the park at St. Mary Campground.
This video provides the highlights of our visit on the east side of Glacier National Park. There is a separate video for our visit on the west side. We stayed at the St. Mary Campground in Glacier National Park. The campground was convenient with an easy walk to the St. Mary Visitor Center. The Visitor Center was the transportation hub for visiting the Going-to-the-Sun Road and experiencing Glacier National Park. The Park Service offers a free shuttle to the travel the Going-to-the-Sun Road with various stopping point for beautiful vistas and hiking. The Red Bus also meets at the St. Mary Village for guided tours to Logan Pass on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Sue and I hopped on the free shuttle from the St. Mary Visitor Center three times. The first to hike to St. Mary Falls and Virginia Falls. Second to Logan Pass where we hiked to the Hidden Lake Overlook. Third to Siyeh Bend where we were surrounded by mountains and had lunch by a rushing stream. We also joined a Red Bus Tour to Logan Pass with stops at St. Mary Lake to see Goose Island, Jackson Glacier Overlook, Siyeh Bend, and Logan Pass. Wildlife that we sighted while on the hike to the Hidden Lake Overlook included Big Horn Sheep and Mountain Goats.
