I remember reading this exact thing about how the Vikings drafted smith several years ago. They felt like if they showed Harrison smith any attention that other teams would really look into why they were talking to him so the Vikings wanted him so bad they excluded him from any contact until draft day and now Harrison, in my opinion, has been the most consistent safety every year he’s been on the NFL and he has a hall of fame career.

Harrison Smith is a Hall of Famer period... He's been a top 3 safety for a decade

Rick's Picks is awesome. Rick was a great GM for us, and he'll be an asset to any team. He's really good in the media, though.

He was mediocre for Minnesota. For the last 12 to 18 months he would not even talk to his head coach to figure out what he needed.

@@joshuabunkers1494 Adrian Peterson. Justin Jefferson. Christian Darrisaw, Harrison Smith, Eric Kenrdricks, Danielle Hunter, Stefon Diggs, traded for Jared Allen. Thats just off the top of my head, but you are factually incorrect that he was "mediocre" in his time in MN.

Good, not great. If he was great we'd have a drafted franchise QB that actually lasted. Imo.

@@HanukkahLewis So the Vikings made 146 draft picks during Spielman's time and your argument that he was not mediocre was to live 7 of those guys he hit on? And much of those hits is the Vikings scouting team who actually begged Spielman not to pick Wyatt Davis, and yet he did. Again, I am not even arguing Spielman was horrible, just that he was NOT great.

@@joshuabunkers1494 I mean, that was off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to look others. But lets not forget even significant contributors such as Everson, Brian Robison, Ezra Cleveland, Bradbury, Brian O'niell, Anthony Barr, Sidney Rice, Signing Brett Favre, Ray Edwards, Trey Waynes, Xavier Rhodes, C-Patt, and others. Once again, off the top of the head, but you are not correct. He was a good drafter overall. You are cherry picking things such as the Wyatt Davis thing to make a point, which is sad. Most teams would have killed to have a GM draft as maybe contributors as he did.

I always thought Rick was a good GM. If he didn't get fired, curious as to who he would have selected to be the next Head coach for the Vikings.

Make no mistake Rick far from left the cupboards bare when he was let go. Zimmer just couldn't maximize the roster's potential like Kevin can.

Smith, Kendrick's, Peterson, Tomlinson, Hunter are all solid above average starters and were there when he left. That side of the ball wasn't ignored. Hell Zimmer was so out of tune with offense I'm convinced Jefferson wouldn't have even started his rookie year if Bisi Johnson(ahead of him on the depth chart) didn't tear his ACL.

I'm not a big Spielman fan, but he at least looks like he knew what he was doing compared to Kwesi. Kwesi's draft and draft trades were awful. He clearly overdrafted players. As for Spielman, outside of Jefferson, Cleveland, Osborn, and Darrisaw his final 2 drafts were pretty bad. Mond, Surratt, Davis, Robinson, Davidson, Gladney, Dantzler, Lynch, and Dye were all not good picks.

@@TH-cam.Algorithmic.Nonsense Can't hit on them all but at the time it wasn't like people were saying WTF. Usually he was praised for getting good values for their consensus draft grades. Rick always seem to walk away from drafts with a good grade.
