For clarification, I don't believe that Metatron was saying it was incorrect that you and your friends were armed and armored as peasants as he has talked about what weapons and armor peasants would have had access to in medieval times a few times on his channel. I believe he thought, like I did, that based on the title of the video this short film would revolve around a knight fighting the common working peasant going about their daily life. Metatron stating that they are "recruited" simply meant that these were no longer your average free tenant or serf but rather those that had been called on to fight in some capacity. BTW, Dash Rendar introduced me to your channel a little bit ago and I have been a big fan. Keep up the great work and thanks for lending him the armor to test.
The weapons from dominus gladus are made of various materials, do they come combat ready? Or are they flimsy things you have to harden yourself afterwards?

What a treat this behind the scenes footage is! Thanks a million for all the work and love put into this channel. It most certainly mustn't be easy, but i hope you all know it is always appreciated.
There's been a video out of Ukraine of two soldiers ending up hand to hand with a knife. This reminds me a bit of that. The brutality of that fight... there was biting involved. I don't recommend watching it, but it seems like something you'd be interested in. Your comment on figuring your dead so why run; a friend of mine pointed out that behind every medal of valor, there was probably a moment where the man said "fuck it". And as a self defense guy, I like to point out to people that the guys who have been awarded the kinds of medals that are usually awarded posthumously weren't some species of supermen. They were regular guys in a bad situation and anybody is capable of a moment like that.
On the flip side. That dude in plate is down a horse, has his full helmet on, and has just fought four guys to the death, if you run away you've got a great shot of outpacing him as he's probably pretty winded, possibly wounded, and likely gonna gas out before you do. Like Dequitem said, when the first two guys died the others should have run. Though, I will say, I have always maintained that there's no one more dangerous than someone whose pretty damn sure they're already dead. They will throw caution to the wind and just go for it, and maybe it's over for them, but that doesn't mean they can't end it for you too.

So glad I found this channel. Some of the best medieval content out there hands down. Someone needs to hand you a ton of money to make a legit movie lol
In regards to Metatron's comment on the crossbowman's accuracy. I think he was just pointing out that just because he can hit a horse doesn't necessarily mean he can make a very accurate shot on an armored opponent. After all, he may have been aiming for the knight and hit the horse. He didn't say that he was good because the horse died. It was just meant as an illustration that yeah, he hit a horse, but that's a much larger target than a weak spot on a knights armor. I'm more surprised that the knight was unharmed after possibly being thrown from his horse. As for the crossbow, it seems that everyone equates it with a gun. If it was garanteed to penetrate armor, they would have been everywhere in even greater numbers, and armor would have fallen out of use much sooner.
I wasn't attacking him there I wanted to give more informations about this topic. When a höre dies from that kind of bolt (if it doesn't hit the brain), the horse needs time to die, you can defenetly leave the horseback without injuries in most scenarios!
Lots of comments thinking that the crossbow was the game changer, the only thing that could've killed the knight but that's just straight up false. With just a glance you can see that it is a relatively comparatively small crossbow, there is just no chance that it can pierce proper hardened steel armor or even pack a punch that could K.O the knight, and they knew this.
@@dequitem yooo thanks for answering and yeah, knights knew the strength and weaknesses of their gear better than anyone else. @PalleRasmussen HUH? Hasn't Metatron done videos disputing the insane claims made by Joe Rogan's guests? I'm confused by your claims. Similar with TIK, what's he said that's inaccurate? I understand you disagree with their political views but I'm not sure they're any less accurate than Matt Easton or Skallagrim.
Amazing fight awesome content. Also the reaction is so important, such a great time to follow historical eras for accurrate details beween two credible channels. You guys be careful out there we want to see more!👏👏👏
I loved the original video, I always shared it with friends who also enjoy knights and paladins in stories. I've always enjoyed depictions of combat pre gunpowder AND PERHAPS even post gunpowder! The group fights actually help me visualise as a DM how to make your everyday hired muscle a little less yellowshirty but reflect different levels of fighter competence and level of readiness. I would love it if you covered ANYTHING Landsknecht. Like Reislaufer (forgive the lack of umlaut) V Landsknecht or either of the former V Condotierre. Grossen respekt und weiter so!
Long hair always made a nice cushion beneath whatever skullcap I’m wearing during practice when I forgot to bring a coif or balaclava type head wrapping
I've seen deer run for miles after being fatally hit with an arrow, and they are far smaller than a draft horse. also, if you can cover your metal in the cold, you'd be a fool not to. it can hold heat, it can also transfer cold
Love the original video it would be amazing to see you some more videos from you with different scenarios with multiple combatants and different levels of armament
I'm following your channel for a lot of time and can say - amazing work, man! Very well composed videos and I love how realistic they are. When I saw the first Metatron video I was - YES! Very happy that your two channels meet and looking forward for more content.. Maybe some crossover or team work in the future? I guess will be nightmare to organize, but still.. man can dream =] By the way.. the only problem that I have with this and the original film is.. the helmet. I'm sure that in general combat history there is a moment when the helmet is not fitting well, or the soldier is not using the strap, but it's just really hard to believe moment to ambush a knight and then run with your helmet unsecured.. Anyway.. everything else was amazing and really hope that you share the video of the first fight. Some of the scenes that you share here look awesome.
@@dequitem - yeah.. you are probably right. Also.. a brigand can wear it without a strap, because he loot it that way or is just careless. I thought for that after I already commented, but still.. I'm happy that you answer. Cheers! =]
Fairly realistic. If these guys had practiced fighting an armored knight, they'd almost certainly have won. Three guys facing him with the man-catcher to hold him, while the fourth guy circles behind him and hits those weak points. But they were surprised, probably weren't disciplined fighters who had planned out "emergency action drills". Would like to see a rerun of the fight where the "Brigands" ambush the knight and have a plan and aren't surprised.
I love the helmet you wear, how did you make it and would you ever consider making a tutorial? it's a style that shows up relatively often in sources but very little in reenactment circles.
That sword is basically a metal club to knock the knight off balance or to daze him before half-swording to convert the sword into a large dagger. If you are lucky.
19:11 I can tell you from experience, adrenaline is one hell of a pain killer. Everyone is different though. Long story short, my squad and I were raiding a house. An IED was hidden in the outer wall below waist height. It detonated. My team leader lost one leg instantly (second hand to be amputated) and he didn't feel the pain initially. That's also shock. Another guy had multiple shrapnel wounds and his legs broken from ankle to femus. He was in pain. I'd go through each (13 total wounded) but you get the picture. As for me, I was dizzy and had a fucking headache. I had tingling sensation in one of my legs (19 pieces of minor shrapnel) but that was the extent initially. Afterwards it felt like I was in a terrible car crash. TL;DR adrenaline and shock can dampen your reading of pain.
Interesting video, thank you! At around 8:00, I think the discrepancy between what you say and what metatron said results from a bit of a translation problem. When you say that peasants can own armour and be landowners, I understand that you are either talking about commoners (Bürgerliche, i.e. non-noble people, i.e. including all townspeople), of whom that is obviously true, or about Bauern (literally farmers - but in late medieval and early modern Germany, the term would have been closer to the English term yeoman or the French term laboureur, both of which describe property-owning, well-to-do farmers), of whom that would also be plausible enough. To complicate things, the term serf means still something else, as in contrast to the others it describes a precisely defined legal category of people (= those who are still legally bound to the lands of their feudal lord), but doesn't define these people in terms of wealth - there were wealthy serfs as well as poor ones, and while there were obviously more of the latter, that was the same in most other categories. The English term "peasant" (derived from French "paysan" i.e. literally: someone of the land/countryside), on the other hand, is usually (or the very least, more often) employed to describe either the entirety of the rural non-noble population (meaning a population among whom the poorer people such as landless labourers were a majority), or even specifically restricted to the poorer part of that population, what with the wealthier ones being described by the specific terms mentioned above. It seems clear to me that Metatron had understood the term in that sense, and would therefore understandably have assumed the title to refer to those who were less likely to have any good equipment.
would it have made sense to just play chase with the knight until he is tired, drag the fight out over a couple hours and stay a comfortable distance. Then work to get the knight on the ground?
Next time you do a video reactio n in the freezing outside I suggest you to use the gauntlets, would be interesting how medieval armor performs when using a phone 🤣 Jokes aside thanks for all the double perspective. 16:04 I wouldn´t think it´s strange to meet a brigand with only a few armor parts, he would never be able to buy a full set and probably scrapped or snatched them. Just a question, would a knight mount his horse with the helmet closed or he just put it for the fight? How easy is for a full armored knight to notice being stalked or ambushed in that enviroment?

I am very glad the algorithm finally brought your channel to my attention. Now, I can be an armchair knight! 😄
Metatron's slowly developing into a reaction-to-reaction-to-reaction channel. ;)
I think he should do weekly uploads again, I really miss the deep dives
And into someone lapping up the drivel fed on Joe Rogan. Simultaneously putting himself on a pedestal as the pinnacle and judge of academia.
It seems to me he has gone the same way TIK and Shad did and has lost his sense for science, as well as his humility, and my subscription.
He still does them from time to time but YT algorithm forced him to do daily stuff.@prestonyannotti7661
He's always been like that
I'm really curious how a bunch of knights would fight against another bunch of knights during a field battle.
just watch buhurt videos, it's the closest you can get legally
Polearms are how you hurt people in armor, beyond that half swording, then grappling and daggers.
cavalry and archers even the odds a bit
@@userb1x1 combined arms is always a win.
You should come over to Britain there're historians and reenactors who run battles in full plate harness every year ☺️
Of all the "Sword-tubers" your videos are the most informative!
this scene was epic to watch. i hope we get to see more like this
When history meets the present! I like it.
Can’t wait for Metatron to react to this video
Amazing fight awesome content. Also the reaction is so important, such a great time to follow historical eras for accurrate details beween two credible channels. You guys be careful out there we want to see more!👏👏👏
I like to hear your thoughts from behind the scenes. Good job, aragon 👍
Sexiest man alive
Easily the best channel on TH-cam.
Where did you dispose the bodies of the defeated individuals?
Stupid question. There’s a lake right there.
This is awesome!! Metatron is the reason I am aware and now a subscriber to your channel! Both your channels compliment each other extremely well!
Your videos are fantastic! Very interesting addition by both historians- bringing history to life!
You guys bring the past to life ❤
Long hair always made a nice cushion beneath whatever skullcap I’m wearing during practice when I forgot to bring a coif or balaclava type head wrapping
I hope this recursion will continue for a long time
Very much enjoyed that, and Metatron video!
Yeah give me all the behind-the-scenes 🖤⚔️
There are some photos on the channels of my friends!
A reaction within a reaction, cool!
Awesome!
I hope Dequitems car is a short walk away, it looks cold out there.
I've seen deer run for miles after being fatally hit with an arrow, and they are far smaller than a draft horse. also, if you can cover your metal in the cold, you'd be a fool not to. it can hold heat, it can also transfer cold
Absolutely!
A good old reacception!
So glad he found your channel, was spamming his comments with your channel name haha
And now we wait for the response to the response video...
I wonder how long THAT will be.
I am actually interested. But everything has an end.
Metatron has some taste liking your video Dequitem. Subbed too.
For those who haven't experienced the forests of Germany in winter...the cold drinks your body heat like a vampire!
was making your scale helm difficult? I've yet to see one being made on the mainstream armor market
Only expensive. If you have to cut out the plates with hand. But it's okay for mass production. The most expensive is the thick leather hat.
That messer appearing again ❤❤
It's a beautiful pavel moc Kriegsmesser.
@dequitem it is truly stunning my favourite type of sword paired with a cinquedae for the bling value would be my choice
Love the original video it would be amazing to see you some more videos from you with different scenarios with multiple combatants and different levels of armament
Mayby one day!
it would be so good to see a crossbow vs plate test
I'm following your channel for a lot of time and can say - amazing work, man! Very well composed videos and I love how realistic they are.
When I saw the first Metatron video I was - YES! Very happy that your two channels meet and looking forward for more content.. Maybe some crossover or team work in the future?
I guess will be nightmare to organize, but still.. man can dream =]
By the way.. the only problem that I have with this and the original film is..
Wearing the helmet without a strap system is historical accurate. There are many helmets without a strap.
@@dequitem - yeah.. you are probably right. Also.. a brigand can wear it without a strap, because he loot it that way or is just careless. I thought for that after I already commented, but still.. I'm happy that you answer.
Cheers! =]
It would be awesome to see the rest of the fights that ended up on the cutting floor.
It's out as a short on my channel.
I really would love to see the version where the knight looses. It's good to be reminded that the knight knew he was walking into danger.
He posted a vid on shorts where the brigands win
Fairly realistic. If these guys had practiced fighting an armored knight, they'd almost certainly have won. Three guys facing him with the man-catcher to hold him, while the fourth guy circles behind him and hits those weak points. But they were surprised, probably weren't disciplined fighters who had planned out "emergency action drills". Would like to see a rerun of the fight where the "Brigands" ambush the knight and have a plan and aren't surprised.
hello Dequitem I find your videos very good and also very interesting I am looking forward to the next videos have a Great day
This is awesome. Hollywood could learn a thing or two or five or fifty from you.
I love the helmet you wear, how did you make it and would you ever consider making a tutorial? it's a style that shows up relatively often in sources but very little in reenactment circles.
Sorry will not make a tutorial. It's to late now.
That sword is basically a metal club to knock the knight off balance or to daze him before half-swording to convert the sword into a large dagger. If you are lucky.
Thanks! It is marvelous to see you two interacting. I learn something new every time I watch both Dequitem and Metatron contents.
superb stuff
I need to go buy full plate now!
How many plates did you use for your helmet? It looks like at least 60.
Yes much more than you think first.
@@dequitem Thanks because i'm gonna maybe make a platemaille aventail.
I love your videos! Man...PLEASE duel Seki Sensei! He's a legitimate samurai...that would be AMAZING to see!
He is a little bit old for a fair fight.
@dequitem He's still highly skilled though...idk man, I still think it would be cool. You know your stuff though.
schön zu sehen, das gute deutsche wetter enttäuscht nie 🥰
Haha good video as always, i thought that was a real polearm you got hit with before you explained😅
I would be dead!
4 minutes of Dequitem are better than 2 Ridley Scott full feature films!
I wish there were videos about Landsknechts and Doppelsoeldners.
Mayby one day!
@@dequitem I saw other videos about that, sir, but I wish to see your perspectives. Vielen Dank.
I'm sure the rubber was not fully flexible in that weather. Might have been more realistic than usual.
Next time you do a video reactio n in the freezing outside I suggest you to use the gauntlets, would be interesting how medieval armor performs when using a phone 🤣
Jokes aside thanks for all the double perspective.
I was also thinking that the injury you had was another reason you didn't use halfswording.
