Can I add my two cents? First, in the battles of Crecy, Poitiers, and Agincourt, English archers were mixed and integrated with on-foot armored fighters. They were commanded, first by King Edward I, to carry wooden stakes to create obstacles against French Cavalry. So it was a mix of both ARMOR and BOWS, along with tactics, that gave the English the edge in the battles. If you look at the Churburg armor of the late 14th c. to early 15th c. and then look at the later armors of the 15th c., you can see the pauldrons extending to cover the armpits even when one moves their arms.
