Excellent. I've got two weeks there in the summer, can't wait. Regarding the transition to mirrorless, I switched 4 years ago and haven't looked back, it elevated my photography. There's an argument for staying with what you know works and works for you but ultimately there's a finite lifespan for DSLRs (and support of them and the lenses). Thanks for creating and sharing 👏

When I scan the map locator in the photo guide it doesn’t take me to that location on a map. Is that feature no longer supported? I plan to be at Grimsey in late July 2024. Your book about photographing Iceland was invaluable to me on my 22 day self-driving solo camping tour of Iceland in Sept/Oct 2022. However I found a need to update it to avoid some frustrations - some locations are no longer accessible due to automated gates that require a resident's passcode to operate or there is no longer public access across private property. Information regarding the need to pay for parking i.e. Parka would also be helpful.
Thank you for the tip. The automated gates are regrettably being set up in locations where landowners see an opportunity to make money from tourists. There has been a fast development into this direction in 2022. When we wrote the book it was only in a few locations. Just keep in mind that landowners only have a permission to charge a small fee for parking lots, not for admittance. They do not have a permission to fine you for not paying for the parking lots. As we understand it the fees are voluntary. Still this is a black spot - an increasing black spot - for the freedom of travel in Iceland. We don´t use Parka - it is a software that is disconnected from the reality of travel and smells of bad management in our opinion. Not recommended. We will dive into this subject in our next version of Photographing Iceland - A Photo Guide to 100 locations. Thanks for this useful point.
I really like your videos and photos. Here in Brazil we have many problems with hunting wild animals, but I never imagined that this could also happen in Iceland and especially with the arctic fox. I'm sad about it.
When you ask, "Can we live without our big lenses" - I'm very surprised by that statement. Can't you use them on your new mirrorless Nikon? - with Canon we can get an adapter and put it on a mirrorless camera, so that we can continue to use the EF lenses in addition to the new RF mirrorless-oriented lenses.
That thought has to do with plans to replace them with Z 400mm f4,5. And, yes, there are great adaptors but they are more or less useless for good audio and video.

Doesn't Nikon have an adaptor ring which enables you to use your old lenses on a mirrorless body?
