People that say music is dead don’t really listen to music anyways, well, nothing decent at least. Haha. Three years after tour comment and it still holds true. People still think guitar music is dead but I do feel it’s starting to make a comeback again.
The guitarist and the bass player have the most concerned expressions, like their instruments have suddenly turned into lizards but they try to pretend not to notice.
I think this song is 10 times better when Stella is playing drums on it. I'm biased as a fan of Stella's and her band Warpaint, but she just adds so much more to this song than Kurt's regular drummer.
@@connfyoozed I totally 100% agree. I watched the live performance at KEXP with the other drummer and was kinda blown away at how much more I enjoyed this version with more groove. It's also a little faster. Just shows how important a drummer is in a band. I can't get enough of this clip!
True. But let's be honest, as well the singing and the guitar playing will never match the studio version. Not judging though. Just a difficult guitar part combined with a very difficult singing line.
People are expected to live for around eighty years, at least in the more developed countries... And in that time we find what? Five or six musicians/artists that REALLY take hold of our spirit and keep us listening day after day. For me, Kurt is not only one of those musicians, but surely my all time favourite artist. Kurt's music heals me, and by that I don't just mean "I like it a lot." I mean to say that when I put his records into my ears, I can feel all of my negative emotions evaporating. Thanks for that Kurt. You're the best.
Really solid song in all aspects. And having Stella on drums bumps it up from good to great. I'm not a musician, but it impresses me that Stella seems to play every verse in the song slightly differently, but still keeps that solid backbeat that pulls the song together. She just adds a certain amount of "pizzazz" to her playing that most drummers can't or don't add. Oh, and she sings pretty well too: this is one of the only versions of this song I've seen where there are no backing vocals from Stella (and the keyboard player also).
Agree with the 'pizzazz' thing she also does this a bit on Washinton's- Limitless. She looks to be one of those 'less is more' drummers, and knows when to hold back properly.
Stella Mozgawa of the band Warpaint. Words don't do justice to how talented she is. She also sings backing vocals on this song on the record version and usually when she plays live with these guys, although obviously not for this performance.
Man. Just watched it 3 times through. Great great great version of the song. Love how he opened it up a little live. Learned to play it the first day I heard it. Simple chord progression, but for some reason I can't get it out of my head. I'm in my mid 40's, but have a close friend that's 30. He turned me on to Kurt Vile and I've been all in ever since.
I think the most amazing thing is that he plays with almost entirely his thumb and index finger...he plays most if not all of this one with just his thumb!
Kurt played in Portsmouth, NH. was hanging out downtown with my girl and I didn't recognize who it was until I heard them play this song as they were tuning everything before the show. unfortunately I had to go to work before they started the show.. was pretty bummed but glad I got to hangout and hear them jam a little while getting ready. Great sound for sure, looking forward to hearing them when sometime in the near future.
***** i guess that means we both have great music taste? if this were anytime in the past, it'd probably mean we'd be friends since we'd see each other at all the rad shows haha
Holy cow Sea Bear! What a phenomenal, yet simple way to describe her drumming! I work on a tugboat with giant diesel engines and your “Torquey Chug” is PERFECT!!!
You need to give the engineer(s) a raise and they need to open a school on how to mix. I can't believe this is a radio performance, the sound is perfect
When people say music is dead nowadays just aren't looking hard enough, this is so good
Antonio Gutierrez exactly bro
Yeah, I'm so tired of hearing people comment on Alice in chains videos "Man, they just don't make music like this anymore. Music today is garbage".
Mainstrean music is pretty much.
People that say music is dead don’t really listen to music anyways, well, nothing decent at least. Haha. Three years after tour comment and it still holds true. People still think guitar music is dead but I do feel it’s starting to make a comeback again.
But now...bologna going into your mouth
The guitarist and the bass player have the most concerned expressions, like their instruments have suddenly turned into lizards but they try to pretend not to notice.
+Hannes Johansson haha brilliant! so true!
+Hannes Johansson The guitarist looks like he's gonna murder someone lol.
+Hannes Johansson It's pretty easy to find Swedish on TH-cam or other social media.
+Hannes Johansson
bahahahaha XD
+Hannes Johansson gotta love your choice of words
The drums really bring this song to life in my opinion. Such a unique timely sound
I think this song is 10 times better when Stella is playing drums on it. I'm biased as a fan of Stella's and her band Warpaint, but she just adds so much more to this song than Kurt's regular drummer.

One of the best drummers in rock, love the way she plays !
Agreed! The KEXP version is also good but this drummer just introduced a special type of head-shaking groove to it
Exactly. Stella's groove really ties the song together. (Much like the Dudes rug; really tied the room together.)
This is the best drum sound (playing and recording) I’ve heard in a long time
Sitting here in my Kurt Vile t shirt, listening to Kurt Vile. Life is good!
he looks playing natural and easy, but its super high skill to sing playing with this riff
+森本佳宏 Very true. The chords are easy, but the rhythm can be tricky
Exactly and singing too. Great version. The band are brilliant
Yep
I surprisingly find the Em - G transition to be the trickiest to nail with vocals.
True. But let's be honest, as well the singing and the guitar playing will never match the studio version. Not judging though. Just a difficult guitar part combined with a very difficult singing line.
This drummer ❤️

that snare makes me so happy

Ryan Nolan Yes it is.

Drummer was effortless
I love that Jaguar Kurts playing and I love his drummer. She is beautiful and talented.
Amazing drummer!
I thought so to. plays to the song, and super solid.
That drum groove is the song's secret weapon.
Stella Mozgawa of the band Warpaint. Words don't do justice to how talented she is. She also sings backing vocals on this song on the record version and usually when she plays live with these guys, although obviously not for this performance.
Smokin’ hot too
Damn right!
Feels like a premonition about our collective experiences in quarantine over the last hundred Mondays, Tuesdays...
This "live" version is so much better than the video.
damn that was great... Love the drummer she is phenomenal!
What a pleasure it is to listen/watch these tight musicians
It looks like the bassplayer is trying to control the guitar player with mind control. And it works.
Drummer 😍😍😍
One of the best songs ever.
Stella!! ❤️❤️❤️
Ooh ! Do I love the drummer !!
Man. Just watched it 3 times through. Great great great version of the song. Love how he opened it up a little live. Learned to play it the first day I heard it. brilliant ! drummer in the zone... infact all flowing nicely
great all around. get to appreciate how talented all the musicians are in this performance. Glad I heard this music.
really like the riffs the base player gets into after Kurt is done singing.
Catchy! and won't forget their sound!
I love when I discover a band that sounds as good or better live! Awesome!
I absolutely love this version
DAMN - I mean just DAMN - so good, so authentic, original af!
Kurt's Jag is beautifully worn in! Lovely!
Nathan Wolf looks like shit- worth about 10k- sounds priceless

Great sound on the whole: I could listen to this performance over and over again.
Shout out to Caroline Inzucchi
I love the guitar work in this song. Great interplay. Excellent drumming too. Perfect song.
The drums sound soooo fucking good in this video!
I think the most amazing thing is that he plays with almost entirely his thumb and index finger...he plays most if not all of this one with just his thumb!
Love him. Perfectly musically quirky yet hits it. Magical paired with Ms. Barnett.
SIMPLE BUT SO COMPLEX ! LOVE IT !
Drums are just dreamy.
Good song, love those drums
Such a great song. Great talent.
love love love this song and the riff is so dope plus this drum is candy to ears cant wait to seee him again in chitown
what a brilliant song. Love it
What is wrong with the few people who gave this a thumbs down? What's there not to like? It's fuckin' rock n' roll poetry!
This song is stuck in my head. It's refreshing compared to the same old stuff on the radio. That drummer kills it.
Stella
woah Stella from Warpaint
Stella is pretty amazing. I love to watch her playing.
Thank you for posting this great band. I love the trashed look of Kurts Fender Jaguar.

Great song, GREAT mix. Thanks.
Absolutely terrific👍Great riff and the drumming is wonderful.
That song is badass, love it!
You're the man Kurt.
Awesome track.
Killer tune.
Another song from him that confirms my belief he is a fan of The Fall.
Everyone who mentions The Fall deserves hundreds of thumbs up.

Is the drummer of Warpaint kurt's drummer for this tour or something?
looked like her at the beginning of the video?
Da LemonSqueeze nice! she's a rad musician
***** That's pretty great actually. I didn't know they worked together like that
+Darrien Day I dont think she's touring with him unfortunately... just in studio stuff...
***** i guess that means we both have great music taste?
if this were anytime in the past, it'd probably mean we'd be friends since we'd see each other at all the rad shows haha
+Darrien Day she's been paying with jamie xx too, killing it
I have this riff right... and I'm gonna milk it TF!!!!
tbf... it is a belter of a riff, so why TF not. Kurt Vile is magic :)
Each of the band mates (aside from the bassist & Keyboards) look like Kurt. Presenting Kurt Vile and the Kurt Vile's!
Supremacy Oddly enough the keyboard player is his brother Paul.
Best song
what a great drummer....on this great song....so full of meat.....
+jay wire Stella....
That's Stella from Warpaint???
Yes it is. She plays with Kurt when she's available to, and is in the video for this song too.
Big respect for The Swirlies tee...and all the musicians, obviously.
The drums in this song have such a satisfying torquey chug to it. Simple but great
Holy cow Sea Bear! What a phenomenal, yet simple way to describe her drumming!
I work on a tugboat with giant diesel engines and your “Torquey Chug” is PERFECT!!!
Damn!J Mascis, Weird Al and Steven Malkmus are creating a musical super-race! Feel bad for the musically challenged.. 😘🎆
Tom Petty as well! 👌👍
fattest snare in the game
god ... that kit sounds great ...
RIP Rob Laasko ..
perfect 😍😍
❤
You need to give the engineer(s) a raise and they need to open a school on how to mix. I can't believe this is a radio performance, the sound is perfect
I've yet to hear a poorly recorded performance when watching WFUV videos. They do a fantastic job.
Love it.☻
Shit , this live version its such a jam so freaking enjoyable to ride
the drummer killed this song !!!!
I gotta say those drums were pretty pimpin.
Excellent. I felt like there was room for a bit of keyboard in some of those intervals.
Does KV tune up a half step? Backwards hendrix? Cool as fuck.
nice tune and nice jag
very good live for a very hard song to sing and play !!!!
Best song of 2020👹the drums are singing
That’s so cool
Oh nice! Stella Mozgawa from Warpaint on drums!
I am hooked on this tune. Just me?
So am I ! (I discovered it 2 days ago)
LOADS OF PEOPLE
That snare sound is amazing! Does anyone know what snare model it is ?
That dummer is like a clock. Solid!
