I was a bit dissapointed that I watched a 12 min video just for the information "use insert Mesh". Besides that the video did exactly what I needed to know.

This was spot on. Saved me a TON of time. The title was right on with my "how the heck" thought process. Last time I used any CAD software was Autocad R14. Fusion 360 is a major game changer in the world for me and your video's a great help getting me back into the computer side of engineering. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience - I am just getting into the 3d Printing world coming from a CNC router background where 3D really means "bas-relief" since undercuts are not possible without a hugely expensive 4th axis. I just ordered a Pulse XE from Matterhackers yesterday and I'm spending the lead time doing research.
I use Vectric Aspire 3D modelling software to produce all of the tool paths for my 5' x 10' Camaster Cobra and the user interface and functionality is very different from Fusion 360 so Videos like this are a real time saver - It will keep me from wandering down the same path you did and let me just cut to the chase so to speak.
I have an Einscan pro 2x plus scanner and am able to scan objects with pretty decent resolution for prototypes or broken parts for possible reproduction. The problem I have is that once I create the .obj or .stl file, I want to be able to make changes to it to adapt for other purposes or to repair surface blemishes - is that possible with Fusion 360?
For example, I scanned in a brass owl incense burner that had a very dark rough exterior surface - to this, I had to use "markers" (little round dots placed randomly so scanner can maintain reference position) every 2" or so - these allowed me to scan the art with great accuracy, but every place a marker was used lost the characteristic rough texture - I want to be able to replace those smooth patches on the surface with a copy of the adjacent surface texture effectively repairing the marker blemishes..
Does that sound like something that could be done with Fusion 360?
Thanks, I apologize for this mammoth post, but I have not been able to find anything that adresses this issue by googling and was just hoping maybe someone else had the same problem and a solution.

Hi Terry! Of course! I have a video coming out next week incorporating a 3D scan into fusion 360 and then modifying the geometry! Look for that soon and thanks for the support!

Very well done! Got me productive after weeks of others sad attempt's at explaining this quark. To confirm; does this mean if I export this stl and import rather than insert it will it be off size? or do the proper scales carry over in the import? Thanks so much for your contribution to my sanity.

A bit confused at first. I I can see now, that you want to measure the exact dimensions in the STL, so you can make your own new design with those dimensions as a reference..
    Thanks for sharing.

Good video, now please make one on how to get rid of all the facets when you convert from mesh to brep.

  • @StreuB1
    @StreuB1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

The only issue is that the uploader and then you inadvertently did a 2x inch to metric conversion, resulting in an upscale of 25.4
Simply scale the entire model down by 25.4 and you have your original part back in scale.

@@adamtjames breaking a model into smaller peices, cutting and merging, or even the that changing one dimension like your example.
I'm new to 3d printing and have kind been cheating where I can by dropping unwanted parts below the build plate and gluing stuff where I want post print.

@@adamtjames Thats wack bro. 12 minute video to state the obvious and give no direction for how to actually import an stl and modify the model. What a let down...
I could spend hours recreating a model based off of mesh dimensions but thats not why myself or anyone else clicked on your video.
