Viewtiful Joe is a prime example of Capcom firing on all cylinders. Such a unique style for a 2D beat em up that is equal parts stylish and challenging. Truly one of the Gamecube's standout titles along with it's sequel, I just love how Sylvia gets in on the action and gets her own suit but I had no clue that she was also playable in this one! The main theme is such a banger! Thanks for making me want to get back into this one with this awesome review Marcello!
Couldn’t agree more! Haha yeah, Silvia gets her time to shine upon beating the game on Adults difficulty, and Alastor upon being V-Rated. The main theme is a banger for sure, as is the soundtrack as a whole! Glad you really enjoyed the review man!!
I never had the opportunity to check it out. Initially when it was released I was really over the whole 2d style of games and stayed away but over the years this is one that continues to intrigue me. Great review
Yeah, this game released when 2D games were waning, but is absolutely an essential! Highly recommend getting this for the collection man! Thanks for checking out the review!!
Man I miss this game so much, oozing with charm and in visuals, sound, and gameplay! Admittedly, I got pretty far in the first game and fell off it... looks like its time to pick it up again! Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
Glad I could help provide that nostalgia trip! Yeah, this game was on another level, and still impresses me all these years later. Definitely give it a shot again to finish! Thanks again for checking out the review!
Thanks man! Yeah, these games are awesome, and it’s been a long time since I’ve beaten the second game. I’ll definitely review that one day too 👍. An HD remaster of this is such a no brainer…but Capcom seems to not want to acknowledge this IP sadly. Appreciate you checking out the review!
Bro, I'm gonna be honest with you, I've never played Viewtiful Joe especially when I was a kid/teenager. When I saw the box art for it, it didn't interest me at first but now watching this review, I'm very interested in checking it out. Hopefully I'll find it at the Toying Around Block Party in Johnstown, NY Next Saturday but I do got to keep my focus on collecting and finishing the Super NES set since I'm close to 100 games for the set since right now I'm at 90 and am 10 games away from 100 out of the 717 for the set. Regardless, Viewtiful Joe and its sequel are great games that showed what side-scrollers can be on the GameCube as there wasn't a lot on the system. Either way, Great Episode as always GameCube Galaxy.
That’s fair! It’s a game that didn’t sell crazy numbers, but it garnered a fan base for sure 👍. Yeah, the GC didn’t have a lot of side-scrollers, but the ones it did have were mostly awesome. Thanks for checking out the review man! Also, sweet to hear you’re almost at 100 SNES games!
The only way I managed to unlock Captain Blue was by using Super Joe, who has unlimited vfx, who I unlocked by getting a perfect rainbow V run on adult mode.
Heck yeah man! Not an easy one, but very satisfying once you master it! And dude, you def should cosplay Joe! 👍 Thanks for checking out the review man!
This is such a great in-depth review of Viewtiful Joe man! I didn't realize that this game is part of the Capcom 5, but that's cool to know now. I remember thinking about how unique the graphics looked when this game first released. Between the fighting mechanics from the VFX meter, the platforming, puzzle solving, and secret characters, this game does so much that is cool. Thanks for this review, and I look forward to watching more in the future.
Thank you man! The Capcom 5 was an interesting concept for sure, and spawned some serious BANGER titles! The graphics truly are unique, and hold up immensely still today, and the gameplay mechanics are so fresh and intuitive. Glad you enjoyed the review man! Thanks again for checking it out!
Awesome review as always! Was waiting a while on this one. Great tips btw as I'm currently in middle of my playthrough in this gem and am stuck on the shark boss haha
Thank you man! Glad you appreciated the tips too 👍. Hopefully you get past Gran Bruce! He’s tough, but once you learn the strategy, you can take him out easily. Good luck man, and thanks again for checking out the review!
@@GameCubeGalaxy Ya 4 sure! Just snagged vj2 off ebay brand new sealed for $47. Was Curious to hear your thoughts on the other 2 vj spinoff games? Worth getting?
I just started streaming and playing this again a few days ago. It's truly one of the most unique and best games ever made. It still looks great in 2024, especially with a 4k overhaul and widescreen fix.
Heck yeah man, that's awesome! It really does hold up so well! Oh man, I can only imagine how much nicer it looks in 4K with Widescreen support. Thanks for checking out the review!
It's nice that Okami gets re-released all the time, but this is the game from technically clover (believe it was essentially that team just not called that yet) that I wish got re-released, I unlocked silvia, took me years, and not sure I'll ever geta round to alastar but come on on switch this is a no brainer! Also give us the complete anime!
Yeah, I think Capcom needs to give Okami re-releases a break, and finally give this series a much beloved re-release. Definitely a no-brainer! Thanks for checking out the review!
i collected this game for GC but haven't play it yet. But I just really enjoy your channels. I noticed you post every 2 sunday morning now. Keep up the good contents. We can tell you put lot effort and work into each video.
Glad you're really enjoying the channel, and noticing the effort put into each video! That truly means more than you know! Yes, I always aim to release a new video every 2 weeks on a Sunday morning. However, there may be a reprieve soon where content will release a little slower due to upcoming life changes. But, new content will continue! Thanks again for the awesome words and support!
2:51 the zooming mechanic I never really understood that well or used it as I should. I remember liking the VFX boost but I certainly didn't use it like it needed to be. 5:03 ahhh this makes a lot of sense, I didn't use the VFX to avoid damage much. Sounds like I should have. 9:31 LOL There is a higher difficulty?!?! 12:30 that is super cool the PS2 version has Dante. Great review, it's one I want to go back to at some point as you and I discussed me quitting it. I need to be in a right mindset to take on such a challenge.
Yeah, that zoom mechanic is essential 👍. The VFX is also integral to enhancing your survival rate lol. Yup, there’s not just 1, but 2 higher difficulties!! 🤣 I like that the PS2 version had Dante, but I remember trying this version at my friend’s house back in the day, and the controls just felt off. The GC controller feels tailor-made for this game. Glad you really enjoyed the review man! Hope you revisit it and finish it!
Hard difficulty is no joke! Definitely takes a good amount of practice to know each enemy weakness and their moves to dodge. Thanks for checking out the review!
Loved this game ... And I think he made an appearance in a fighting game (maybe super smash bros). It's sad that developers aren't pushing creativity anymore ... I've been hoping for a rerelease or something for a while especially since PS2 and GameCube are not exactly backwards compatible with current gen.
Glad to hear you loved this game! There was actually a Viewtiful Joe fighting game called Red Hot Rumble, where it was like Super Smash and Power Stone combined. I need to still try that one out (and cover it on the channel lol). The current state of gaming has been mostly sad to be honest. The wrong people are running the industry, creativity is at an all-time low, and production costs and time are out of control. It’s a shame honestly. It’s why the retro game market is more popular lately. Thanks again for checking out the review!
Man, this game is pretty awesome. Questions: 1. What enhancements do you think this game will get and benefit from in an Original Xbox port? 2. What if GameCube has it's own exclusive character? Since Devil May Cry is usually seen as a PS2-exclusive at the time and they used Dante in the PS2 port, what will GameCube have? Since P.N. 03 didn't receive a port to other consoles, I feel like Vanessa would be the candidate for a GameCube-exclusive character. Not too sure who would be the Original Xbox-exclusive character (If an Original Xbox version was made in a alternate timeline/universe and not just settled with PS2 and GameCube) judging from Capcom's Original Xbox exclusives.
It really is! As for your questions: 1) That’s a good question. It depends, but I can also see the game looking darker color-wise, as Xbox versions of multiplatform games tended to appear that way. Not sure for certain though. 2) I think a fun take would’ve been Leon from RE4, if RE4 released first. I say that since he has all his roundhouse kicks 🤣. Vanessa from P.N. 03 would’ve been a great character to see as a playable character though! Good questions! Thanks for checking out the review as well!
There’s nothing “skateboarding” related in this game, but maybe just Joe’s appearance gives off that skater vibe? Hope that helps, and thanks for checking out the review!

Viewtiful Joe is such a gem. Really wish it was brought back.
You and me both! Still my favorite entry in the series too.
Criminally underrated channel.

More games need action movie mechanics. Especially in the superhero genre!
100% agreed! This game nailed that! Thanks for checking out the review!
Have you done a review of Tales of Symphonia mate? Thank you
I haven’t reviewed that yet! That’s one I still need to cover on the channel 👍.

For some reason my dad used to call him (in spanish) "the skateboard guy". Does he use something like that in the game?
