    LONG TERM COMMENTS I used these bars for a few years before selling them with one of my bikes (Why? See below). Zero issues, worked great. Their main competitor, Twisted Engineering, now put a more flexible version of their x3 bar which is called the x4... naturally. It may be worth looking at. th-cam.com/video/Sj9vE6mimJk/w-d-xo.html
    WHY DID I SELL THE BARS? viewer asked me why I didn't seem to be using either set of flexible bars anymore. When I hit my 50s, I was having quite a few issues with my hands and fingers when adventure riding but especially enduro riding. I was trying all sorts of solutions (see our arm pump video) and these bars were part of that.
    Mysteriously it's much improved now I'm in my 60s when I was expecting it to get worse... my doc said I had 'pre-arthritic' fingers and it would only get worse lol. I suspect it might just be my riding technique has improved. I'm wasting less energy. I'm gripping the bike more with my legs. And the Steg Pegz have been a huge improvement.
    So why did I ditch both sets of bars? I've always tried to keep things simple and only use mods and bling if it really helps. So the bars were sold off with various bikes. Of course I might wind buying them again if the arthritis kicks in.

    Old vid, but thanks for making it!!
    I lost my Balance 2 years ago(Fn stroke), riding has been near nil, but I can now ride on a dirt road for 30 minutes once a week. Last ride I got arm pump Soooooo bad, then the shoulder pain started. I was on a new to me ktm 350, non blinged up. I traded bikes with my daughter, she has BRP rubber mounted handlebars and a BLINGGY Scotts stabo, instant relief!!!!!!!!
    I'm going to add a scott's to my new bike(yes it's pretty too!!), and I'm going to try some Flexx bars, I'm sure they will help me. The Mako 360 looks nice to, now I just have to work out fitment of the HDB handguards.

    That jarring sounds exactly like what I've experienced on my '14 Beta 300.
    There's something seriously wrong with the mid valve on the Betas. My '13 KTM 450 XCW doesn't do it to me at all... so I agree to sort suspension first. Seriously considering sending my stuff to Alan Stillwell to get it done, but it's a big commitment from this part of the world.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ian Henderson my suspension mob put the sachs rear shock on their shock dyno and said it's one of the best stock shocks they've seen. sadly the sachs forks are taking longer to get right although they tweak them each year. reviews suggested there was finally a big improvement on the 2015 forks and i'd have to agree... mine were sweet but the suspension shop managed to improve on them a bit. there are some good suspension discussions on the betarider forum.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tyler Alphonso it was a midwest lever which reduced the pull by about a third but it still wasn't enough for my old fingers so i went the clake one light clutch.... it reduces the pull by about 70% and without using extra leverage. th-cam.com/video/5gQGY2quL8k/w-d-xo.html

      Stayed with the softest ones, Steve. Other guys I know did as well but I think most riders would if they just potter around at lower speed like us. Eventually though I went with the Twisted Engineering 4X flex bars as they are so much lighter. We spend a lot of time lifting our bikes through snotty terrain!

      +MrDuhfactor lol i actually realized i'm reviewing an awful lot of stuff so in the next vid i've got a bit about training being the ultimate thing... all these bits of bling might make a rider more comfortable, or actually help a bit with riding, but learning good technique will always be the biggest factor. e.g. just learning to not do the death grip on the bars will probably be a bigger improvement than buying flexx bars.

      I would be keen to hear what others have come up with. I'm glad to say I rarely encounter it any more... after a very hard ride I might wake up in the middle of the night with that tingling sensation but I just put on a cheap wrist brace and it's all good again. Usually I try to remember to put the brace on when I go to sleep. Mine was a no name brand one from Ebay for $10. Great investment. It just keeps your wrist straight while asleep so prevents the tingles in mild cases.

    hey would you be able to explain the benefits of getting your suspension fitted for you I'm am a small rider riding a wr250f but i only weigh 60KG and i can hardly touch the ground so would there be any point on changing my suspension and if i was to would i get less ground clearance that's half the reason why i got a big bike.

The little you lose in ground clearance is more than made up for in confidence at putting my feet down. I would've dropped it countless times in the gnarly terrain possibly given it away, but I love it and cant wait to get out there as much as I can.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +CALDERA MOTO we emailed TE a few times but couldn't get a reply. as far as we can work out, the TE bars would be lighter, but not have the adjustment options. the flexx bars on flex in the same direction as your front suspension whereas the TE bars flex in all directions... we can't say whether that would be a good thing or not without trying them.

    • @bannedbrothers
      @bannedbrothers 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both bar systems... and I think I am going back to Flexx. the Twisted uses their own handguards that are flimsy and bend on a small drop. but the Twisted are light! but there's not enough movement like the Flexx so your wrists are still sore at the end of a ride. I don't like how the Flexx have nowhere to install any accessories like a GPS or Roll Chart on dual sport rides. but I mount things onto the handguard bar so it's not a big deal.

My DR650 weighs like, a million pounds/kilos (just call it Kilos) and the first time i dumped it, that lead weighted bike bent that fat bar like it was made of tin. Would this flexibar stand up to laying down a DR650 and be ok? Seriously though, i am all sorts of upset about bending a brand new bar within 5 minutes on the first ride. When i buy a new bar, its just gonna happen again on my first dump... HELP!!!

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +65elcamino283 i know how heavy a DR is when it comes down, due to four snapped metatarsals in my foot. :( the stock steel bars are known for bending if you breathe on them heavily, so any aftermarket bar is going to be way better (did you replace your bent ones with stock bars again?).
      whether a flexible bar would be less prone to break i don't know... it doesn't seem to be a claim that flexx (faastco) or twisted engineering make. i guess one advantage of a flexx bar would be you would probably only be replacing one section of the bars if you did bend them?

    • @65elcamino283
      @65elcamino283 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES the new bar that i bent was the Fly Racing Aero Taperd thick walled bar. I only slid the back end out and lay'd the bike down in first gear. The bike laid down and the bar was bent forward and up. This 360 Lb pig seams like it will bend ANY bar that is on it when it's laid down. I'm thinking that the flex bars would be good to let them flex and take the brunt. I hope...?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +65elcamino283 maybe... the flexx bars only flex inline with the forks though. the twisted engineering ones bend in all directions (interesting that both claim theirs is better) so might provide a bit of extra protection against bending? either are very expensive options though. :(

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES yeah, with my gumby ass laying my bike down on regular intervals, replacing the expensive bar parts might not be a good idea when A new Fly bar is only $50. I guess i just need to consider my handlebar a Consumable...

      It has to do with front end cornering. Risers take weight off the front wheel and rob you of the leverage you need to weight the front end for cornering....Google it and see what the coaches say about risers. Uh oh... Like I haven't spent enough dinero on the pumpkin princess already! Just like that trophy wife I never had, I have found myself struggling with the impulse to buy beautiful things for her to gain her approval. While most of the small fortune I've expended on the APP (Austrian Pumpkin Princess... Keep up with me here!) has been for extremely useful items #bestdualsportbikes.com, a few have been not so much. #uselessbilletgascap
    I've been curious about the Flexx bars for some time however, since they've been popular with certain (aging) American dirt bike journalists for a while. But yours is the most comprehensive review and I may be on the verge of popping the big question on the APP! (...Should I buy Flexx bars?)
    Besides cost is the issue of hand guards. I'm very fond of my Highway Dirt Bike guards and mirrors, fitted with BDSB dead ends (anti-vibe). I am not above modifying the HDB guards to fit, but I need to find out if they're in the range first.
    Thank you again Mr. Morris for sharing your experience and insight with us! And congratulations to all you Aussies on leading the 2015 ISDE on day 2. Team USA lead as of last night, and is only 8 seconds behind. But it looks to be between the two colonies for the 2015 ISDE World Trophy. Good on ya mate! (Did I get that right?)

      +gncc1race onya mate... or on ya mate! yep, the boys are doing well, i wonder if the girls will come first again as they did last year. doing us proud, woohoo!
      il bling y mucho dinero, no? i think i might need to annotate that flexx review, sometimes just learning to avoid the death grip can be the biggest improvement. i think the flexx bars mainly come into their own when you know your body positioning and riding technique is good, but you are still facing issues with the hands, wrists, arms and/or shoulders. i'd hate to be responsible for your impending bankruptcy. :)

      Si, si... !Demasiado dinero por los blings, est cierto! Pero vale la pena, ?no? (I had to get help with that one!)
      I struggle with death grip too at times, and constantly seek to adjust body position, riding technique and suspension, all of which you do mention. And the onset of death grip can certainly be purely mental as well.
      But usually when you feel like you have to over grip the bars to keep them in your hands, there's a reason.
      So bars that widen the margin of comfort in those circumstances become hugely attractive...
      And yes, it looks like the Aussie Junior and Women's teams are far ahead of the other teams and both seem headed for a first this year! Hmmm... Is this Cross Training thing some kind of Aussie conspiracy to dominate world off-road racing?!
      Hmmm...

      +gncc1race, Flexx Handlebars will work with most HDB guards. Shoot us an email with the model you have and we'll get you sorted out. Thanks for the interest in #FlexxHandlebars.

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES, @gncc1race, we spend more time sorting out riders ergos than any other brand. We're happy to go over your particulars, ask you questions and be sure we match you with the bar bend that will best fit your ergo needs.
