  • By far, the most common question I get is "Do you like the off-road or road tires more?" I'm here today to address the differences between the two types of tires so you can make an educated decision for yourself. This video was a LOT more work to make than I'd care to admit, so if you enjoy it please subscribe to the channel for more! Thanks.

    I'm convinced people only like off-road tires because it makes the scooter sound cool, more like a motorcycle on the road.

    My first scooter had offroad tires and I loved the sound🤪. On my present scooter I always ran road tires and it was waaaaay different -> no noise, lot smoother, more efficient(maybe, couldn’t tell a difference efficiency wise), but now I have a flat tire and I purchased some offroad tires again! Just because the sound they make is soooooo cool 😎!!!

    My current scooter came with tires that are like a hybrid between road and off-road tires. They have all the benefits of road tires but are also pretty good off-road because of the raised treads it has but does not wear on street riding like off road tires do.

  • @ChronSyn
    @ChronSyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    On my Inokim Ox, I started with the 2.5 x 10 road tires, but in even slightly wet conditions, the scooter would often slide sideways. Hell, even in dry conditions, slow speed turns would sometimes cause it to slide.
    I switched over the 3.0 x 10 hybrid all-terrain tires, and not once did the scooter slide, even in very wet conditions. I always assumed that the studs were helping to keep it upright, and I even managed to recover from slides many times. These types of tires have very thick studs, but they're places close together so the overall pressure and wear is more evenly spread.
    Then, I got the Vsett 10+ which has 3.0 x 10 road tires fitted as standard. Despite the higher speeds and its desire to keep pulling, it feels much more stable. Evidently, the studs may not have had an effect on stability at all, and having the wider tire was what was keeping me upright more of the time.
    The main benefit I did find with hybrid all-terrain tires was puncture reduction. The road tires on the Inokim were notorious for punctures even when inflated properly and when using tube slime. It wasn't caused by pinching, but by debris. I've not had a puncture on the Vsett yet, but I've got some hybrid tires lined up just in case.
    Acceleration on hybrid tires is slower than road tires, and there's more vibration and slightly lower top speed, but maybe those trade-offs are worth it for puncture reduction.
    Full offroad tires aren't something I'd find a use for, but they're really not optimised for riding on tarmac. They'll certainly do the job, but less effectively than the other options.

    Glad I waited to comment. most people wouldn't have mentioned that off road tires wear and heat up and at high speeds have led to tire failure and injury. I would have recommended off road for off road and road for road. if needing to be on paved roads or trails then a SHORT distance is fine with off road tires. but the cost is also something to consider as well as strain on motors from the off road tire use on roads. Still a great video, what has been stated by you is infarct factual and can be proven, unlike some videos where people just tell us what the manufacture says and claims or use their own opinion as fact when they have no actual backing to what they say. This is why I subbed, You have provided factual information. Cheers mate!!!!!

    Wonderful video sir, as always. My Zero 11X came with road tires and they performed surprisingly well off-road.
    If anyone wants to get the Zero 11X, heed my warning:
    Although the rims split, it is IMPOSIBLE to remove them the classic way like on the Zero 10X.
    You have two ways of removing them:
    1. Unplug the motor wire from the deck (must open the deck).
    2. Cut the wire and solder plug-and-play car connectors over which you apply thermo contractible insulation tape.
    I found the second one to be more efficient.
    Hope that helped someone. I nearly died changing the back tire after a puncture.
    Trust me, it took a whole new level of desperation to cut the motor cable on my brand new 3500 euros scooter. But it works, it's waterproof and it does not overheat so...thumbs up? :D

    Hey there! snowing in the Greater Seattle Area right now as of this comment (2/14/21)-I know it’s trecherous to ride scooters in the snow, but really curious to see how scooters specifically the wolf warrior and its off ride tire will perform in the snow? Thanks!

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible, but not very fun or practical. If it's packed snow or fresh snow it's not too hard to do. But if the snow is packed but uneven or slushy then its just hard and makes for a sweaty workout. On little bumps the scooter can slide left or right really quickly which makes it way too hard to maintain control in more icy conditions.

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nanrobot left me with a really sour taste in my mouth. I haven't seen the D6 but I can't imagine their overall quality or customer service have improved since I delt with them. I personally would go for the 10x and then elect to put the hydraulic mtb shocks on it. If you don't plan on doing anything extreme with it then you can just stick with the regular suspension, too. I think that's a perfect amount of scooter for most people.

Don’t need speed, don’t need high end, don’t need long distance, but want to be able ride on paved driveways, grass and importantly gravel. Haven’t been able to find any information about scooters and gravel. Also need to be able to lift it into a truck so preferably under 70lbs. Any help you could give I would appreciate.

    Excellent video master, my question about road and all-terrain tires... do you think there is a possibility that all-terrain tires slow down a little... because they have less grip on the pavement? I don't know if I explain myself...? For example... is it possible that my scooter with all-terrain tires can deliver a maximum speed of 50mph while with road tires it can reach up to about 55mph?

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. Off-road tires do slow down your ride a bit. In my experience they can shave up to 5mph off top speed, and also negatively impact range. Hybrid tires are my favorite right now.

    Have managed to get about 2500km (~1550miles) (so far) out of my offroad tyres on the Wolf Warrior 11GT. Front tyre is still pretty good but the right side of the back tyre is gone. Like, whole side is missing all grip. Mostly road and gravel riding. That's with me being ~120kg/265lbs. Pretty much constantly running both wheel motors. Over here we are pretty heavily speed limited which probably makes a decent difference. Plan is to try the road tyres next (not keen on doing the actual swap).

      U could try higher tyre pressures when using off road tyres on road.That way,any squirming will be due to flexing of just those block treads, instead of them&the tyre sidewall.Its what I do when I ride my mtb on road.(When I get off road,I let out some air back to the recommended levels).

    I am trying to buy a Kaabo mantis and I'm stuck between Voro and FFR's. I read everything about thejr specs. I'm only confused why Voro is offering mantis Pro either 18 or 24V way cheaper than FFR qnd still claims for enhancements done on the scooter. Do you have any idea what's the actual difference between your mantis SE and the black edition? And is it true that 18.6V gives you higher top speed than 24V?

    • @GingerOnWheels

      Not sure where you're getting your specs, they are all 60v scooters. Voro does higher volume and can offer lower prices.

    Ginger I have a question, I'm new to the e-scooter scene, I bought a d99 and I'm quite happy with it, it's a bit too heavy but very powerful.
    I do have a question about water, on the manual they say not to ride the scooter on water, but they don't say why... So it got me a bit worried, is it because of the driver safety for not to fall or is it because the scooter is not waterproof? I don't want to burn out my scooter.. The IP Rating is ipx5

I commute from the Bronx to Manhattan 18 miles one way to work and I need to make this scooter more reliable

    • @GingerOnWheels
      @GingerOnWheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      My only advise is to make sure your psi is 40 or higher. Some pumps let out air when you remove the pump so you're running lower than you think. There could also be a metal burr on the motor hub that you need to sand down. Trying tire liners is another option.

    I ride my WW over 50% off road. Thank God I have the Off Road Tires! My Zero 10X has on road tires and maybe if it had off road rubber than I would not curse at it all the time. I do remember riding her in Center City Philly last summer and loving every minute of it. This is it’s environment I thought to myself. The soft suspension are up all of the nasty city streets with ease and I saw the 10X in a new light. I still say to anyone who owns a 10X; Put a Steering Damper on that wobbly front end or you are going to meet God up close and personal if you go over 25 mph at all on occasion. That front end needs all the stability and help it can get!
