G'day Alister, I watch both Roger Ossie & Your vids carefully lots of joy. After lockdown Aussie Salmon round Sydney have been very slow!
Could you recommend to me how to target landbased deepwater kingies with bait and lure with what kind of rig?
    Thanks
    Jacob Nadas (Gardener)

Jacob best option is the headlands that drop off into deeper water. Live slimies are my favourite bait but obviously hard to catch squid on the other hand are easier off the rocks and well worth drifting out

New Zealands minimum size is to the fork of the tail not the tip, so a 75cm kingfish in new Zealand would be measured at somewhere between 80-85cm I Australia, perhaps the new Zealand size limit is enough for sexual maturity?

I do a lot of catch and release in Tasmania as wanting other people to have fun with them

There have in fact been two kingfish exactly 52 kg caught in nz........one was by mike Godfrey from the bay of plenty on 15kg mono.......another guy got one and it was exactly 52 kg as well.......The three kings islands/Ranfurly Banks and white island are where people hunt for them and jigging and live baiting are the main techniques......some monsters lurk at Ranfurly where water drops off to 1000 feet.......three kings islands also......40kg + are not rare.

Maybe there should be a bag limit of two.

Remember we as Kiwi's measure our fish differently to you Australian's.
We dont measure from the tip of tail, we measure from the V of the tail. It makes a very big difference
