I made a poll for video themes and so many of you voted for more Studio Ghibli DIYs. So I hope you'll enjoy this DIY Totoro felted soap tutorial ^_^! Felted soap is traditionally made using soap bars but I thought it would be a lot more fun to make custom shapes with soap clay. You can either use the Korean "Chomulrak" soap clay or try my DIY soap clay recipe from Cute Life Hacks. Both work great.

(Best to stick with WHITE clay! I realised afterwards that the lilac clay was a bit too dark and the colours started seeping into the wool).

ASMR stands for "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" and basically means those quiet TH-cam videos that are relaxing to listen to. Other channels that are great for kawaii ASMR are Mosogourmet, Bonobos25 and Cho's Daily Cook.
The "wet felting" process here involves using hot water and soap to break up the wool fibers and make them stick together. In comparison, "dry felting" (needlefelting) uses a barbed needle to rip up the fibers and create the same effect. This was my first time making DIY felted soaps and I loved how relaxing the process was. Just remember that wrapping the wet felt around the DIY soap doesn't actually complete the project! You have to scrub it until the wool is firmly felted onto the DIY soap...so if you can feel any wisps of wool sliding off or moving around then you need to keep rubbing. for people who dont want to buy or make their own, shredding up a bar of soap really finely and then kneading it with a little tiny bit of hot water at a time can make something soft enough to sculpt with for these. i used a whole bunch of soap slivers and hotel soap bars we had laying around

+winnelle Thank you! That was something which happened by accident when I started TH-cam, because I was so bad at video editing I didn't know how to add music XD. But so many people said they liked it so I decided to keep it for as many of my videos as possible.

She used the wet felting tehnique So the wool will stay in place

the wool would shrink with the soap to some extent but it will become a weird hollow thing after the soap is all used up

Learnt something new: Felted Soap! I never knew there were things like soap clay/ felted soap. May I ask, what is the purpose of using coloured soap clay? (Since you'd be covering the clay with wool...)

+Christel Goh Thank you!! Actually there was no use to the coloured clay...I originally picked colours to match the Totoros but I realised that the lilac shade was actually a bit too dark so it started staining the white wool. The white soap clay would be best to use for all projects ^_^

+Fluffy288 It's actually quite useful because the wool helps the soap last much longer and has a scrubbing/exfoliating effect! There are many other felted soap tutorials on TH-cam which you can watch if you're curious ^_^
