    I just found out Smithey use stainless steel knobs on their lids instead of solid bronze. I’m debating which one to buy- Field or Smithey. On the other hand, Field offers solid bronze knobs on their site now, that can be used on any lids. But I like how Smithey looks. Please help me to decide.

    Is that a Field smaller Dutch oven with bronze knob? Looks beautiful

    I've always been under the impression that using a card was a test was the opposite of the ruler test, To be done with the bottom down, the wobble located and then how many cards under the skillet or oven that it takes to correct the wobble, Am I wrong about that?

    • @luisj.castironcooking
      @luisj.castironcooking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honey Badger you are not wrong. The ruler 📏 method is to see if there is any unevenness, which could cause your iron to become a spinner or warped.

      @@luisj.castironcooking I saw you going over the bottom of the DO with the card like a ruler, I thought I'd been missing something

      He is a bit over the top obsessing about slight imperfections for Field. Anyway, it wouldn’t affect the cooking at all.
      Don’t wash your CI while still hot for it not to warp or throw a stone cold butter on a hot pan. I have several Field skillets and they haven’t warped yet.

    • @luisj.castironcooking
      @luisj.castironcooking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes agreed, but there are some skillets which are heavily warped. Those can be considered show pieces or camping pieces

    Try induction, it’s a huge game changer. I use most all my cast iron on mine. It’s great

    Just cook with the damn pot. If it warps significantly then send it back. Measuring and finding it a hair off without using it is pointless.
    No casting is perfect. It’s a casting.
    Now if it was a machining from a billet and was off THEN I’d expect it to be perfect.
    Pouring iron in sand molds you can never expect perfection. That’s silly.
    All cookware warps over time. I have expensive stainless and notice slight wobbling on my burners. Food still comes out perfect.
    Holding season and how well it performs is way more important. Thanks for the minute details but that’s not an important detail…
    Also, a ruler is not going to be accurate with measuring the center because of the ring around the bottom.
