You look at orthodoxy and speak about it with a kind of enthusiasm that we do not have in the east, where you have churches every few blocks and everything has been part of normal life since centuries. I love that and it is why I love listening to many american priests. May God convert all of America!
I believe Father Seraphim Rose spoke briefly about this in one of his recovered recordings you can find here on TH-cam. Not going to speak for him, though, i do not remember well everything that was said on that video. Basically, when a society becomes "converted" and accustomed to their majority religion, there is no more much of that zeal there was before, because when everyone else belongs to the same religion as yourself, you do not have the same need for "evangelization", so to speak. You can observe this not only in Orthodox countries, for it is common to all religions across the world. In my country, Brazil, for example (a majority catholic nation), most nominally "catholic" people are not really religious and participant in church life. Minority religions will always be more active and militant than majority religions, for sadly it is human nature not to value that which we already have. Of course, this is an opportunity for Holy Orthodoxy to evangelize and spread to other countries, but the need for Orthodox countries to guard themselves from falling into the same pit is urgent. Please pray for me, and for my country. May God have mercy on our souls, and may the Orthodox church become more well-known by people all across the world.
I don't know if you are baptised, catechumen, or considering to convert but you can't fight passions without being baptised, confessing to a caring spiritual father, receive holy communion, pray and have a rule of prayer which helps a lot. I am telling you that by experience. We all struggle more or less. Devil when sees you try to fight your passions starts to fight even more in order to make you fall into despair. Don't give up. You are not alone.will pray for you
@Sever3dHead yes. Train yourself on focusing on something else and ignore thoughts of devil really helps. Do something creative, try to pray, the most important of all. Even if you have thoughts while praying. Prayer is beneficial anyway but one of the reasons of trials is to cultivate patience. Devil wants to make a person tired of trying not to think about something or make that person fear that thought. Just try to ignore Hymns as well help on praying. And reminding yourself of God's power, wisdom and love. Devil cannot tempt us without God's permission and allows to tempt us for good reasons and teach us how to fight and understand our limits, understand the importance of partaking with body and soul in mysteries of church God delivered to us. God bless brother
Your comment is a bit comforting to me knowing I am not alone either. I shall pray for you. I am also losing myself along with so many blessigs and everything has been crazy. Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on us sinners
You cannot Lose God, He is nearer to you than your own eyes and Hands. reject the devil and his lies. get angry about the theft of your joy and Cry out to God to restore you. He will break the bow of the enemy and rip the chariot asunder. Have faith the size of a mustard seed, a single ember will start the blaze of the largest fire. Christ, have mercy on this your child, Amen
As someone who is newly baptized and struggling to help start a new church where I live in the middle of nowhere who was really struggling today. This has brought me to tears , if this community grows and we are graced with building or buying a church here , I do not deserve to ever have my name on that scroll. Glory to God in all things and thankyou Fr

Fr Trenham is the greatest priest I ever heard talking on TH-cam or elsewhere. So far I haven't found a match in terms of sincerity, devotion, wisdom and rhetorics. If every priest was like him, there would be a great rebirth of Christianity worldwide.
Don’t praise him too much. It could damage him. We must always think of our priests and not put them in harms way through our careless words. He seems to be great, I agree! But let us focus on the Lord, and not on the servants of the Lord
@@jasonfox9992 Yes, that's true. There's no competition who is the greatest priest. But I find father Trenham and is channel extremely helpful in promoting Christian faith and morality and in reflecting on contemporary issues. I would love to see Catholic channels with the same level of sincerity and passion. The only one I can think of are Fathers of Mercy.

Whoever reads the comments can you please ask Fr. Josiah to please make a video about how to overcome cringe and having social anxiety as an Orthodox Christian 🙏
Something that’s helped me is just realizing nobody cares because you also don’t. You need to overcome the fear of talking to people by doing it more and more.
Jesus didn’t have social anxiety. Social Anxiety comes from being in your head too much and being overly concerned with how others perceive you. I suggest praying against that but also get more involved in community/activities and service. May the Lord bless you and keep you❤
Being “cool” is of the world, I say this as a catechuman of Fr. Josiah, I’d consider my previous self “cool” or socially popular, but the things that matter truly are building your community at your parish, and developing your prayer life.

I'm not an expert, so get a second opinion... However, I think the answer is yes. To be a true orthodox Christian, one has to become baptised, chrismated, and then take part in the eucharist. There will be a special ceremonial day as part of the liturgy where the catechumins finally get baptised and Chrismated and then partake of the eucharist. It isn't a 'special' eucharist that only the initiates take, as all eucharist is Christ's body and blood. Hope that answers the question.
My Eastern orthodox friends, I have a question and I by no means am here to argue but wanting to learn. I’m a reformed Baptist and I believe in original sin but I have heard that EO does not teach this. Two questions then 1- is this true? 2- If so, how is this explained in EO theology? Thank you again my friends.
We believe in the inherited corruption of sin and death from Adam but not in inherited guilt or personal culpability for our fathers sins. We believe St Augustines teaching but we also have a different model of the atonement than most Protestants so it might be confusing at first without proper context of the orthodox understanding of the fall and the atonement
@@HumbleRustic i am not an expert and i will have trouble phrasing this, so i will try to be simple by just saying that in Eo tradition we View the fallen state more as some sort of illness or distortion of our likeness with God rather than a grudge that God is holding against us. As such, He is not against us, we are, in the context of our sinful nature, against him. The Work of the cross is not Jesus being the substitute target of God's punishment but rather He takes all sin and the curse to destroy it and conquer death. It's restorative, not punitive. In scripture there is nothing pointing out that the father is ever "angry" towards the Son during the crucifixion. Also, it would be conflicting for God to both love to save the world even when the world is lost and at the same time to be eager to have someone pay the price. Coming from that, the cross is about dealing with sin and the fall of men, not with the anger of God. I am sorry if i did a poor job, i hope someone else explains it to you in a more theological language soon enough
