    Thank so much for posting this, April - this is perfect! I really appreciate it. I also appreciate your complete approach to building this out - from the attention to detail such as border colors/thickness, fills, alignment and even the hover fills to being mindful about the performance and building that all into your approach. Bravo!

    Great video April! I really like the way you optimized for performance with the toggle, leveraged Boolean values to minimize the number of If statements and how you referenced other controls. Nice, clean code. Please keep your terrific videos coming :)

    This is great!! I added edit icon and save icon and delete icon in my gallery (each row has these three icons) then user can edit by rows because they like to view items like in excel mode not a form. Your method is much better. Thanks for this sharing.

    I like the way you set the "Edited" hidden property. I have a different approach (I would add a boolean column on the Items property)... I guess I have to test both options to measure and compare performances. Your approach is simpler because it requires way less logic on each control in the table. Thanks for such a quick and efficient video, as usual.

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AprilDunnam I was building in a toggle that was checking for any updated items and noticed an issue and then came across this video while I was researching. I had the same thought/implementation as you however I noticed it wasn't actually working for the patch/filter statement (I first noticed when I tried to count rows with that filter to see how many pending changes there were). I added a second gallery below to do some testing and set the items property of the second gallery to "Filter(MyMainGallery.AllItems,Toggle.Value = true), and what I saw was that either no items or all items in the main gallery are showing up.
      My guess is that this is because the toggle control is not part of all items so there is not a unique instance of the control per item, there is only a single instance, and I think* the Toggle.Value that is being referenced is the instance related to the single selected item in the main gallery.
      If you do this do you get the same results that I do, or are you getting the unique rows that have been changed?

    Hi April, thanks for the amazing content. i am trying to build an app that updates my sharepoint list. I want the app to have 5 columns to be filled out but the first column will be a text box and i have dropdowns for the other columns. Can i have set up that when someone enters text in the first box and it matches an existing record.. data in the other fields is automatically pulled but allow the user to update them. Or else, if its a new record in the first column, then the user is allowed to just add details of other columns.. i am trying ro avoid suolicate entries in the datasource. Your advice on how i can go about this will be highly appreciated. CHEERS.

    You insert a Toggle to check if there are changes in the row thisItem . That works for text fields as you showed in your video. But my row has also a Datepickers field, a Choices column and a view yes/no toggles. What are the functions to see if there are changes?

    Thanks so much for this! Made it super easy. I have 2 quick questions if you have the time to answer.
    1. How do you start with a blank gallery? I don't want to edit any existing list items, just add new ones.
    2. When you write the formula for the "plus" icon for OnSelect, the end of the formula ends ....;Refresh(Gallery2). I'm getting an error on this - is there something i'm missing?
    thanks so much!

    • @mazlinanis294
      @mazlinanis294 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, here's my suggestion:
      1. For the blank gallery you can follow all the steps until the end then just delete all the lines to start with blank table
      2. The formula ends with ...; Refresh('name of your data source') or you can just drop the Refresh() function. The formula still works fine

However, I get the error you did with the two underlying red lines when I do my in my default toggle properties. • @AprilDunnam

      Thanks and great question. They could absolutely go to the SharePoint list directly to edit the data. It comes down to use case and user experience. Often times you don't want to make your users go to a different system which is why you would build something like this into the Power App.

    Hi April, thank you for the great video! Perhaps an idea for a future one: is it possible to have a similar editable table in PowerApps that allows easy copy-pasting from Excel? Otherwise each value has to be copied/changed one by one. See, the grid view in a SharePoint list will allow the user to paste a table from Excel to the grid. But, unfortunately, the gallery does not allow me to do that... Would you mind giving a thought about that?

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's not an out-of-the-box way to do this right now. There's a hack that you can do with pasting the Excel data in a Text Input and adding that into a collection that you can then put in the gallery like so: ForAll(Split(TextInput3.Text;Char(10));Collect(TotalCollection2;{C1:First(Split(Result;Char(9))).Result;C2:Last(FirstN(Split(Result;Char(9));2)).Result;C3:Last(FirstN(Split(Result;Char(9));3)).Result

Any thoughts on how to move to the bottom of the gallery once the new line is added? Since I have more than a handful of items, it's a lot of scrolling and the user may not know that the new entry line is at the bottom.

    April, Great video. My sharepoint list includes the People picker field. I'm having issues with the function to write back these changes from my edit screen. Can you provide the function for writing back the people picker option?

    I have extended on your theme by adding a Column to the collection that can have 4 statuses (Added; Deleted; Updated and Unchanged). Upon saving, the ForEach takes the necessary action on the record in a nested switch statement.

    Hi Susan, Great video !!, Just I'd like to ask you something regarding to add one functionality. Is it possible to add a "Create new column" button, and another "Delete column" button in order to add/delete a column directly in sharepoint ? could you show it ? many thanks

    Thank you so much April. This help me a lot but the toggle not work with my lookup column. I use DefaultSelectedItems property on the combobox to retrieve the value from SP list. Do you have any suggestions ?

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there - sorry for the delayed reply. Comboboxes are tricky. The default values have to pull from the same data source as the items. My guess would be it's a mismatch.

    It would be great to include a parent table to this edit grid. For example, a Purchase Request parent table and the quick edit details are the individual line items. I can't figure out how to get both together.

      I agree... Is it because it would be a related table that would be needed to be referenced?

    • @TheMKTube
      @TheMKTube ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Omg I totally agree! Would love to see this appear in a parent form as a sub list where we can see experience with ability to perform CRUB operations within the sublist and the parent. Hope April sees this comment!!!

    If Im working with dataverse instead of collection or sharepoint, how do i write the forall function? I can´t manage to patch to my dataverse table using the forall formula you wrote.
    Thanks in advance!

    Great video, do you think it would be possible to add a filter to only show items created by currently logged in user?
    I would like to have the same list, viewable by all, but only showing items created by the person viewing the form?
    Thanks

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Nic - Absolutely. If you're using SharePoint as your data source then you can modify your "Items" property of the gallery to only show items the current logged in user created like so: Filter(MyDataSource, Created = User())

      @@AprilDunnam Im going to try this tomorrow, we have to create a list for people in the business to make declarations, and it can be one item or 10 per time, I was going to have separate lists for each person, but this is soooooo much nicer :)

      I failed! the list has 15 rows, and they cant all fit on one line in PowerApps, so I tried adding them below, and it looks pants :) I need to go on some PA training :)

    Just viewed this again April, in a custom gallery with same as approach as this, it doesn't seem that an input drop down control will work? If you initially set displaymode to view, the corresponding choices in a SharePoint list is not available in the drop-down automatically. Can it be set by a formula or should I just create a collection or different data source for the drop down control choices in edit mode?

    • @emmanuelmaceda2475
      @emmanuelmaceda2475 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geez... i think you just set the value in Default property and then set the choices in the Items property on edit mode?

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Emmanuel - Yes you are correct, all you need to do is configure the Default property of the drop down control and make sure the dropdown items are set and it should work

      Hello -
      There's not an easy way to get version history into Power Apps. You pretty much have to leverage Power Automate and SharePoint API calls to do it. This blog post is pretty detailed and shows you the steps needed: www.about365.nl/2019/08/08/view-sharepoint-item-version-history-in-powerapps/

    Example: I have entered ABC in row 1 and XYX in row 2. But it is updating XYZ in both the rows.

    Thank you for this video April. I was trying a use case based on this
    Use case: I have a SharePoint list in which lookup is a column. In PowerApps I am using a combo box to display the value.
    challenge: how to do a comparison with toggle method.
    Appreciate if you can demo this please.
