Thank you very much. Honestly I would love an award ;) But I'd be happy with hitting 100K subscribers before I croak... lol. But it's slow going now. Hey Batt. Yeah, I guess I have the gift of having been doing videos for 10 years now. I have a lot of videos that are similar to this one where it's a very common question. I seem to be in tune with the needs of the people :) These short videos help me help more people too. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Having a fan blasting at the drying screens has brought down my drying time from overnight to 1h, sometimes quicker! Just make 100% sure the fan is clean!
Yes, a lot of people use fans. Like you said, just be sure the fan and the area are clean and dust free. My drying box holds 17 screens at once. I usually keep it pretty loaded so I never really have all the rushing issues others seem to have. Be a Boy Scout and be prepared... lol. That's funny. I'm a Boy Scout ;) Thanks for watching! Good video. For me, I'm thinking of getting a dehumidifier because my small room has an issue drying my screens probably within a few hours. Can't leave them overnight, because don't have time in morning to expose and my emulsion has a 24 hour time limit to expose or it will expose itself.
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing. Most photopolymer and dual cure emulsions can sit in the box for some time. I have left some screens with Textil PC Blue for almost a year and they worked fine. In my experience, emulsions will last on the screen as long as they would in the bucket with dual cure emulsions expiring the soonest. 24 hours is a very short window to use screens so I see how that can make it difficult. Bro, I cant wait until Covid is dealt with and everyone is vaccinated, I would love to travel and just pull up to your shop man, so much game you giving out, I keep you, The Print Life, and T Shirt Chick videos on repeat.
hi John you always have a grate videos provides a lot of learning and training have solved alot of issues...I request you to please do a video on Heat transfer stickers CMYK process..i have tried but failed on transfers then i did KCMY+white base and powder result was oky but not very good may bethe type of plastisol i am using..Thanks
Awesome, glad I can help out through my videos. Unfortunately, I do not print heat transfers or stickers. Eventually I will do a CMYK video for direct printing. I am hoping to have more time in 2020 to make some new printing videos. Stay tuned and we'll see what we get to do next year. Thanks for watching! a somewhat related question... once coated, how long would you say the screen would last unexposed before it goes 'bad'? eg, can you coat a screen, leave it for a few weeks, then go and expose a film positive to that screen?
Yes. It depends on the emulsion but it should last as long in the bucket as it does dried on screen. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I did at least 2 about the one I built myself with a screen rack. Simply go to my channel page, click the videos tab, and search "drying." That should pull up 4 videos about drying boxes or cabinets. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
My pleasure. Yes, so when emulsion is liquid in the bucket, you do not want it to freeze. That will ruin it. But on screen and dried I'm not sure but I'll say it's still fine. I remember many years ago when I worked for my brother printing in his shop in NY state, there was no heat in the shop at all. We used to leave coated screens in the darkroom during winter and they worked fine. Those emulsion coated screens must have experienced freezing temperatures. I don't recall any problems with that. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Im a total noob at screen printing and i dont have the best equipment especially when it comes to drying screens. But i coat and instantly put the screens or screen right under my flash dryer until it is dry and never had a problem with stencil breakdown or anything like that. Again im aware that this isnt ideal but hasnt failed me yet
Whatever works for you is fine. But usually excessive heat cures emulsion. It can also melt the mesh if it gets hot enough. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
In my experience about the same as in the bucket. Check out this video. I probably went more in depth. th-cam.com/video/16ak-nHR5RE/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I guess the bathroom at my place would be ideal for letting emulsion dry overnight. It's reasonably dark in there during the night. However, I'd have to remove it before sunrise when the room gets flooded with natural light. When removing it from the bathroom, I guess I could put it in a garbage bag or similar?
Yes, you can use black contractor bags. Just double them up to be sure it's light safe. You could also cut a piece of cardboard possibly to block out the window or use an oversized curtain. Then you wouldn't have to wake up early to remove the screens. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Great video! Thanks for that. Another question I had is how long can a coated screen sit before being exposed? As in, if I coat all my screens will they last a week, a month?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. I would check with the maker of your emulsion but in my experience, emulsions usually last on screen as long as they would in bucket with dual cure emulsion expiring the soonest of course. I had some Saati photopolymer on screens in a drying box for about a year and they still worked just fine. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/16ak-nHR5RE/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I have an emulsion question for you ... How long is a pail of emulsion suppose to last? ... I've had one still working for over 5 months and I think it said on the label good for 2-3 months (Ulano Proclaim - blueish green) ... Your videos are how I learned ... Keep up your fantastic work Johnathan! ... I now have a Stahls Hotronix heat press too ... covering all angles ... :c)
Hello Gary. I'm glad I can help out through my videos. Dual cure emulsions last from about 3 months to 6 months depending. Photopolymer emulsions should last for years in the bucket. I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Dude you seem like such a cool guy to chill with! I’ve been trying the process to print shirts but have been striking out and super disheartened. I didn’t figure out if I was exposing the image for too long/not long enough, but now I’m thinking I didn’t let the emulation dry. What are the more common errors that you hear of when first attempting the shirt making process? I’m super bummed but not ready to quit =\ Thanks!
Thank you! There are a lot of errors made when first attempting to print shirts but screen making i s one of the most challenging parts. Ask me specific questions and I can help out much more. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

Over dry emulsion? No. Not at all. Once it's dry, it's dry. It cannot dry any longer. The shelf life of the emulsion is more important to consider when storing emulsion coated screens for long periods of time. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

Good tip. This is probably the most common thing that comes up in groups I’m in. When in doubt let it dry over night.
