Chads funny, but Jasons eye roll is priceless && his robot walk. & the "no Bueno" 😊😅😂 l love you Jason and Lorraine. God bless you 🙏🏻 and many prayers 🙏🏻 especially for your health Jason 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale and E 🙏🏻
If you lose the little white cap… I tried different condiment lids to try and replace it since I couldn’t find a replacement….. A1 steak sauce for the win!!!!!! The lids are the perfect size and thread style.. you are all welcome! 😂if you know of actually replacements, respond!!! S
One of your most helpful videos! We always can use a little advise to avoid buying every little gadget for our broods. You helped me a lot with your chicken math. I especially like your advise to build your own systems that are probably much less expensive and may even work better! Can't wait to try a few!!!
I commented this on the previous video but wanted to take another chance at you seeing it: I worry that putting a coating on the roof would taint any rain water you plan to catch, especially when the costing begins to degrade. That’s a huge benefit of metal roof vs plastic/asphalt, not a bunch of chemicals in your water! Hey also you can put a little block of wood under your hammer when prying nails to greatly increase the leverage when pulling those stubborn ones. At least you know those nails are in there good and the roof isn’t gonna peel off in the wind. ✌️
Thanks for going through all the stages of feeders and waterers as you raise them! It was great! We have a ton of waterers and feeders of different size too. We are always having to repair them too. Plastic gets brittle pretty fast. Sometimes the chickens can undo the screws on the feeders and I have to buy new nuts and threaded rod for them because they get lost in the grass somewhere. The metal feeders and waterers always rust. We often use buckets too just like Jason does. Thanks for this video Contreras family!
JASON, THIS IS THE BEST TEACHING LESSON ON WATERING CHICK'S & CHICKEN. ALSO FEEDERS. YOU HAVE A NAURAL TOUCH ON TEACHING ANYTHING. LORRAINE, I REMEMBER WHEN SHE TAUGHT WHERE TO CUT ON A CHICKEN AN EXCELLENT CLASS ON A AND P. TAUGHT AT COLLEGE LEVEL. YOU BOTH ARE BLESSED TEACHERS. I TOOK A AND P IN COLLEGE FOR E.N.T. THANK YOU WELL REPRESENTED. YOU'LL BE BUSY. Then turkeys. Pigs, goats and cow's.. I enjoy the FRIDAY SHOP TALK. GLAD YOU HAD BILLY ON. HE HAS A LOT OF INFORMATION. I DIDN'T GET NOTICE FOR YOUR VLOG. TOOK 23 HOURS BEFORE I JUST HAPPENED TO FIND IT. AT LEAST I DID. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR LADIES. SE MICHIGAN ( I WONDER WHAT TOOLS AL BOUGHT GINA AGAIN FROM THIS WEEKEND TRACTOR SHOW) ❤L.O.L.
I agree. I've done every single waterer/feeder you showed in this video. Each of them can have a use, but I also just enjoyed the rubber pans, too. lol It's crazy how much equipment one can go through when they have chickens.
Lol this is perfect timing. Ive tried all of this over the years and my favorite is bowls. Fill it before work and at night when i get home. just cleaned out my shed earlier and gathered all of the many things too. I use the quail items for just hatched.just feel safer to me😊thx
On the ones with the black screw tops, coat the threads with either Vaseline or olive oil. The lids will unscrew easily, even in the coldest weather. I picked up a couple of 3 gallon water/salt bowls at the farm store. I put my water jugs in there and don’t have to worry about how uneven the ground is and risking the water draining off. The water only goes up just a little above the drain hole and full sized birds have no problems accessing it.
I used the nipple water feeders with cup and pipe . I like to use the plastic ones for food. Easy clean.Fabulous stuff thank you for sharing your experience and information 😊
In the buckets you could hang in a sock with some rice for moisture .....rice is put in salt if your at cape cod/or close to the sea to take out any moister[the natural anti clumping]
Ha! I agree! Great advice!! I use rubber pans for my birds, too! In fact I was at my local TS earlier today and a young couple was buying their first ducklings. I talked about using those rubber pans once the ducklings were older!
Hi, what a laugh!! You cracked ne up... try this one... then this one. Or this one!! Ha ha ha.. However , it was a very helpful video.what to watch out for. And what works. Love it! Lorraine Australia
After almost losing a cochin om a hot (over 115) day I added a mister t0 my coop. . It is on a garden timer, that helps keep them cool and adds a secondary water source of water from the drips.
Thanks Jason, I use mostly the rubber pans now, Love them Yup when frozen turn up side down and stomp on them LOL Have 3 - 45 gal drums full of rain water, Good information to sure help people out ,
I'm like you: I have SEVERAL styles of waterers. Some work more conveniently than others. I use the cups (different styles), but I have found that the chickens LOVE to drink directly from my bucket. It's like they want to dip their heads into the water! They seem to know that I have water in the bucket to refill. So, I've spoiled them and let them drink directly from my refill bucket, until I need to move to another pen. ha
Good video!! Waterers and feeders are such a guessing game. They look awesome in the store but sometimes when they get home they aren't so practical. Good luck on a successful chicken season.❤
My son built me an automatic water. Just a piece of pcv pipe nipple waters and cups. Run to a bucket with a valve. He used a braided metal hose. Not good in winter cause we get freezing temps. But from April to Nov. all I have to do is pop the lid an fill the bucket add some apple cider vinegar.
Maybe a little Dr. Bronner soap applied to the threads of the chicken water lid will help the lids screw on more easily. Bar soap is also great on balky wood drawers that stick. Blessings Y''All!
I've managed to keep the chicken numbers between 4-6 & still find I have an assortment of feeders & waters. Mainly use a galvanized feeder pan and a plastic bowl under a leaky drippy faucet. ❤ usually simple is best & easy to clean.
I went and put a giant outdoor garbage can and put those feeder inserts in it and that way it feeds my chickens for weeks. It holds three bags of feed! And then I use a 50 gallon drum with a pex pipe that runs to a trough setup I made. I
Thanks for this! We have a tiny backyard flock of 6 chickens. I have tried several waterers and these days we're using one of those big 4-gallon covered cans on cinderblocks, plus a heating platform under it during the winter. Also I will fill up a 3-gallon bucket from the big box store, and just refresh it every few days when it is getting dirty, so they always have water, one way or the other. It seems like they somewhat prefer a "natural" body of water versus a more technological approach. The buckets freeze overnight in the winter, so I keep a wooden club handy to break the ice. Yeah there's no perfect solution but it's nice to see all the interesting options you have tried, with advantages and drawbacks laid out.
Skip the pine shavings - use sawdust. Save money and avoid the pine oils irritating the chicken feet and legs. By the way, the great music is greatly appreciated, again!
Thank you for such a relatable video! I thought I was somehow "less-capable" because water seems like the ever-present issue for the chickens. How many different types of waterer's can I collect? AND YET still not find the silver bullet? Lots...apparently.
Hi, Jason! Excellent video. You showed some waterers I have never seen before. How was the chicken summit? I thought about you Wednesday when it was raining.
I honestly think that if someone developed and made a waterer that was plastic (not metal because over time it rusts) but in a dark color so that it doesn't grow algae in the summer they would be making a fortune with those of us who has developed a hate for water plastic waterers.
We used to have chickens and it was a problem keeping the water buckets clean, they would use the handle for a perch, what a mess. The nipple waterers look like they solve a lot of problems.
I don't like the 3- and 5-gallon round waters from TS with the vacuum seal because I can NEVER get the lid off. There is no way to get leverage on it like you showed and old ladies can't squat down and grab it with their knees! I do use the cups on a 5-gallon bucket or the black rubber pans for my chickens. And the feed goes in the same rubber pan. I have some very old-school antique galvanized chicken feeders for one stationary coop that works great!

Good to know. I was just looking for one. Thanks.
Arthritis makes it hard to use the little lid, I just cover the hole with my fingertip.
What size A1 bottle?

I've had all the different fancy feeders and waters but I keep going back to the black rubber tubs. They just work the best.

Excellent educational video on feeding and watering your chickens and great for beginners 🇬🇧

You have invented so many systems! You should patent some of them! Your problem solving skills rock!
Just bought chicks. Went to TS and so many options. Thank you for this video.

Nice cameo of our farmer brad sticker from the waterer I made at HOA. I like the horizontal water nipples with our automatic refilling waterer. 5:32
yup! Thanks for looking out 😁
Have you seen the new water nipples from rentacoop that has drip catchers on them?

I love this very informative video. Thanks Jason.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I didn't think to try glass Mason jars on the small feeders and waters but I will now.
Thanks! My husband saves wine corks for the waterers to plug them up while filling them.
The best one from Premier
Very generous share. Thx for the time you put into producing and making available this information. 💯

Great lesson
Great information; thanks for sharing! You’re very innovative so it will help many? Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
I have ducks as well. So the little cup ones always gets really dirty . I dont mind the little nipple ones also use the rubber bowls.
You gave out a lot of value information about feeding and watering chicken, really cool stuff! 😊👍💕💕💕

i use large glass marbles in my waterer for quail an small chicks
That was really informative and enjoyable!
My favourite acronym is K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple, Stupid. 😊

Yeah, Chicky Chicky chick. God bless.
4 gallon bucket in the summer for water. Not 5. FOUR. Just the right height for mature egg layers.
