I had a CX500T and the only real problem that ever popped up was a failed stator.
I never had any problems with the fuel injection or the turbo itself. It was an awesome
bike to ride. The bike acted like a fairly typical 500, until the R's got up and you needed
to pass about ten cars at once. This must be what a fighter pilot feels coming off
an aircraft carrier catapult. You can cruise at 55 and be doing 90 in about three
seconds. The power came on so fast and smooth, it was addictive.

Not at all. I was 17 years old 1981. It has been steady progress and not surprising at all. I am actually disappointed how slow progress has been. Where is my flying bike with invisible cloaking device, time machine as option?

Shortly after the turbo, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha bought out their race replicas and in performance terms can still match modern supersports bar handling.

Thanks for this video setting of my old CX 500 Turbo.
It was only by chance that I had even learned about this motorcycle, because my friend found an old magazine from 1979 that said that the Honda CX 500 Turbo was designed with 220 patents for the 1979 World's Fair.
In 1997, a mayor from the neighboring town once told me that he has the machine in the living room because it is so rare and expensive.
In the past (1980), a CX 500 cost about 6,500 DM (3,250 euros) and the turbo nearly 14,000 DM (7,000 euros) - that was a proud price at the time.
I drive my CX 500 Turbo since the year 2000 and replaced it with my old CX 500 with 50 HP.
When I saw the machine for the first time before buying, I found it abysmal and still bought it and later fell in love with it.
Now I am already getting older and am pleased that I felt like I could haul around 35 hp, but also experienced the exact opposite with Turbo.
What's funny is, that the German TÜV every time looking for the carburetor, because those no injection at such an old motorcycle wheel is known and then stand around with three examiners and ask me why I've tinkered since turbo on the tailpipes.Since we Germans live to work, she has now run 24.555km and I am still happy every time I am allowed to drive her. (Google Translator... my engish is not so good)

The commentator ask the guy how the dealerships were going to handle the CX500 Turbo? Well I can tell you how they handled it! They kept them in their showrooms forever and use them as display pieces until the late 2010's and then wound up taking them to Mecum Auto auction and selling them for half a million! It's like one of the most valuable motorcycles Honda ever produced and the collectors love them to death

My uncle restored one of those Honda CB900F (Bol D'Or) bikes, the red and white one at 2:20, about 20 years ago. I remember he thought he got a good price for it (10K Aus if memory serves), but the buyer ended up selling it to a Japanese collector for something like 25K!

The weird thing for me was why Honda picked the dull but worthy CX500 V twin despatcher's tool for its first foray into turbocharging. Now, if they had only chosen the CBX1000 six...

Honda came up with a better idea later on. A way of having a small bike with Big bike performance. I have it on my 2007 interceptor. It's a little thing called VTEC

I honestly don't know where you guys get this from, I owned one for 3 years along with my CBX6 and its power delivery was little or no different from a naturally aspirated bike as mentioned in the video and what Honda worked on and hence the computer. What bike producing this sort of power wouldn't be scary going round a corner in 3rd gear if the throttle was opened suddenly, tyre technology was years behind the performance of all these bikes of the day.

  • @MadBiker-vj5qj
    @MadBiker-vj5qj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Ah yes, the famous "obrut" A fairly nice bike, but hardly a superbike, even by the standards of the time. The turbo increased the performance of the 500cc engine to that of anormally aspirated 650. Hardly earth-shattering.

@@hermanmunster3358 I agree with your points Herman, my point really is that calling it a "superbike" in the titleis a bit of a misnomer. I'm certainly no speed merchant... I ride a 1953 350cc Royal Enfield LOL.
