I'll tell you what the switch was - the pandemic. @junkyarddigs and his buddies were (and remain) a good hang during the pandemic. At a time when the world was getting really really really crazy, here's this guy (and his girlfriend, and his buddies) that's looking for broken things and fixing them with his brain and some brake fluid. It was really soothing to watch, and satisfying when you got to the first start of the engine. Brilliant format, great channel.
This is why I like watching Kevin because he's real and he finds some of the coolest cars and actually get to them to run after being off the road for over a decade
Ames Iowa is popular for these things because its cold as hell 8 months of the year and 100+ the other 4 It sits on a river and as most smaller cities the industry has left and there is nothing to do.
The farm equipment revival is also captivating and inspiring, def what makes the videos is the cast tho. They could rebuild old bicycles and we'd watch. The Grand Prix grand Prix is also awesome
Loved this episode! Awsome seeing more of kevins backstory after watching his videos for so long. Also good job to the hosts! First time listening to this podcast but will definitely have to check out other episodes.
First time on the channel, absolutely love this format. Been a follower of Kevin’s since just before the pandemic I believe and it’s been amazing to watch him grow. I was always hoping when I saw Mook in the video and the connection/energy they had together that they’d start dating so it was a good day when they got engaged. Kevin’s video make me want to revive, even though we’ve got a new motor for it, my Dad’s 79 Camaro. Absolutely love the whole network of channels that I now follow thanks thanks to JYD
Came here for JYD! I’m just a working father who enjoys his videos. I’ve been subscribed for some time. I didn’t really know much about cars, engines, nothing but thanks to people like Kevin, who offers education with his videos I can at least change the oil on my own now. Even brakes! Great podcast. I wish nothing but success for the JunkYardDigs channel.
I subscribed when that vid came out, and then I forgot about the channel for several years. Recently I tuned back in and realized that JYD exploded, and I've been binge watching all week.
26:13 "So what flipped it?" The first tow truck video was the start of Kevin's all-out war on wasps as a genus, that's what. 🤣 Edit: 1:13:19 If Kevin doesn't wind up taking that CAT engine, contact Matt from Diesel Creek. I _guarantee_ he'll want it if Kevin doesn't.
Kevin's videos are infuriating to watch because they are so loaded with ads. Relaxing content seeing someone else fight with old worn out junk but no fun to watch.

The farm stuff has been awesome to watch, and a good break from the car stuff.
