One problem I found with live action was that they cut so much stuff that some characters did not go through the journey they were supposed to. Sanhi and Usoppe were basically extras, their story did not matter for the overall plot, there were there for one arc. For anime and manga, it works because it is a continuous story. It takes years and maybe decades for it to flesh out. The live action tv show consists of nine episodes and needs to tie the beginning to the end. As a result, I had a few problems with Sanji and Usoppe in live action. In my opinion, Sanji was not really that good of a womaniser as some people are suggesting.
@@muhammadfaisal5Y5 For sure, the LA overall is pretty aight really good stuff but also really bad decision. Only having 8 episodes must've hurt a lot to the people in charge

Easter Eggs found in this Episode: - With the Going Merry’s railing getting broken by cannon balls reminds me that we don’t have Johnny & Yosaku ins’t here to fix it because this is the point in the Manga / anime when they appear - Garp uses his technique called Genkotsu Meteor / Meteor Fist where he throws a cannonball at an enemy ship - When entering the Baratie their outfits are from color spread: Luffy’s is from Ch.28, Usopp’s is from Volume 8 special, & Nami is wearing her outfit based on her Baratie arc & Ch.50 (minus the letters “WC”) which notice that the circles on her skirt are like a pocket - Once they enter notice the paintings on the wall references Gaimon on the Island of Rare Animals, Sabaody, a Giant King Squid, a battle at sea = maybe the Edd War, a giant wave with faces = sea monkeys from Ch.304, a Sea Beasts from Fishman Island, Foolshout Island (Koala’s birthplace), Kyuka Island, & the ceiling art is maybe the All Blue or Fishman Island - Sanji’s dish that he made is made of Elephant Bulefin Tuna which is the same dish from Sanji’s Cookbook & the fish that he buys in Lougetown that originates from the South Blue, & if you look on the kitchen wall references species from the One Piece world like a wild boar, dinosaur, the panda shark, armored stone fish, tomahawk spiny lobster & dragon salmon (Shokugeki No Sanji) - Sanji mentions Ithurzburger Stein a drink from Micqueot in the North Blue that Fullbody mentions when he ask for the wine from Sanji in the manga / anime, but then with the Straw Hats he mentions Umeshu a wine that Kureha drinks - Luffy ordering milk is a reference to Ch.1 when after Shanks gave him milk he was mock for being a kid - Koby just like Nami in Ep.1 mentions 77th Branch which is lead by Pudding Pudding - Notice that on the cannon ball Krieg shoots at Mihawk has his Jolly Roger - The large drink that Usopp had notice it had Sea Kings painted on it - During the Ending Credits you can see that they have added the Baratie located in the Sambas Region
One thing to correct here. In Chapter 1, Luffy actually drinks juice, not milk. The Viz translators in the past changed it to milk for some reason. You can watch the anime and see that he drinks juice and even listen to Shanks and you'll see that he says juice in Japanese.
I love how they gave Mihawk such a sassy personality. He's the best and he knows it, and he's just looking for anything fun to escape the boredom. One minor difference is how they show Zoro's loss. In the manga; he turns around quickly and surprises Mihawk, who mid swing intending to cut Zoro down from behind without a care. In the show; Zoro slowly stands up and turns around to see Mihawk patiently waiting for him. While I think the manga portrayal is better for showing off Zoro's badass determination, the show version fits this Mihawk perfectly because he wants to see if Zoro has anything else interesting to show him.
Bonus points on Mihawk being a sexy motherfucker lol, like I dunno I love that in a way one piece's live action is giving us a lot of fan service by letting the hot characters be pretty where some like Cowboy Bebop felt the need to make them more realistic lol
One scene I loved in this episode was where Zoro and Nami are watching Usopp dancing, and are basically finding his positive goofy energy infectious. Especially considering we didn't get a lot of Usopp's value to the crew on display in Syrup Village, and he didn't really interact with those two all that much either, here we have it front and centre that the others do like and value him. He's on the crew no so much because of his practical value as a sniper (so far he's basically just failed to shoot Kuro and then again with the cannon against Garp), but because they genuinely enjoy his company and he kind of fills the "heart" role of the classic five-man-band. And notably, Usopp doesn't hear this, so they'll still be able to play with his self doubt and depression later on in the series when it matters.
It shows the world building at play with the live action series. They didn't need a fishman employee at baratie, and he doesn't add much to the story but it's a great small piece of world building.
@@creativerealms indeed. Felt like Garp was thinking about the tenryuubito when he was talking to Koby about rules not applying to certain people and doing things their way

I always took Garp's insistence of using cadets as him wanting to make it a fair fight. Just like Mihawk took his little bread knife to fight Zoro. Garp chose neophyte marines to hunt down fledgling pirates. As Garp told Coby, every marine has to live by a code representing his own brand of justice and this seems to be part of his. Though him sending Mihawk does muddy the waters quite a bit.
I think my biggest complaint of this episode is that when Zoro was saying he’d never lose again, he didn’t have the “Is that alright, future king of the pirates?” It gets nowhere close to ruining the great episode but I really love that line in particular.
it is interesting because by the time Tekking got around to reviewing One Piece back in the day, the series was already 630 chapters in, so it is nice to in a way hear Tekking review the beginning of the story 😅
I read an interview with Taz Skylar and it's absolutely insane what he did to prepare for the role. He basically became a chef and a martial artist. He's probably my favorite actor out of the Strawhats. And yeah, they absolutely nailed Mihawk as well. Love his look and demeanor.
The live action can take as long as they need to, we are one piece fans. Waiting, is our shit. 25 years, we’ve waited. 5? 10? 25 again? It doesn’t matter. We aren’t leaving until this story finishes
I know Oda doesn't do a lot of romance in One Piece, but the fact that we got an Usopp and Kaya kissing scene in this TV Show and Oda seemingly approved of that, puts more stock on the likelihood that my theory of One Piece being a story told by an old Usopp to his and Kaya's grandchildren is likely to be a thing :D
The real life equivalent of Luffy saying he'd pay Zeff back after finding the One Piece is if, after being confronted about a massive bill, the person who had to pay it was like, "Hey, I'm gonna go find a way to Narnia. Once I do, and I become king of Narnia, then I'll come back and pay you. I'm a man of my word." If you were the waiter or whatever, you'd be like, "Yeah, someone needs a serious reality check."
Huh, I actually didn't have any problem with the way Zoro's swords broke, and I'm usually really critical of CGI. Thought it was kinda cinematic the way they fell apart. My waaaay bigger problems with the scene were Zoro wildly swinging at Mihawk saying "got you on the run, huh?" when he was clearly outmatched, when in the manga, Zoro's eyes go wide and he's thinking "the distance between me and him can't be so vast, can it?!", then Mihawk saying "fighting isn't all about strength" and Zoro responding with "stop talking and fight" when he had just been talking a second ago and saying "fight" twice in a few seconds sounds wonky, Mihawk stabbing him in the wrong side of the chest so it's just dangerous instead of "if you don't step backwards, this blade will pierce your heart"-level danger, Sanji not being there for the amazing and important "throw away your dream, it isn't worth dying for!" line, and finally, Zoro wasn't crying when he held his sword in the air and declared he wouldn't lose again, which is really important to me because it shows what a genuine guy he is underneath his badass persona. Don't get me wrong, i actually cannot believe how great this episode and the LA in general was, and these are little nitpicks, but Zoro vs. Mihawk is one of my favorite scenes in any manga I've ever read, and there were just a few things that they changed for reasons I really couldn't understand. But for all those little fussy bitch complaints, they're VASTLY overwhelmed by the fact that Mihawk is beyond perfect to the point I don't even understand. I mean, the guy talks in cursive and the disdain he exudes when pulling out his little knife is something I didn't know could ever be translated from a manga. I cannot wait to see more of him, and I'm hoping Smoker next season is similarly cast to be the gruff dude that he was in Loguetown and Alabasta.
Zoro was actually crying. It just sadly wasn't noticeable enough because it wasn't ugly cry but just some tears and his head was tilted up so his tears didn't flow down his cheeks but up his bandana. My personal gripe is him pulling out his sword out to swear it looked so awkward to me lol
31:20 Sanji was broken mentally half way through the story, locked in hell for two years really did a number on his psyche. He did some un-excusable things due to his broken impulse control, but hopefully he will temper his blazing passion towards the safety and the success of the crew without losing himself in the final war to come.
Thank you again for another 1 hour long video. I got inspired by you to create a TH-cam channel. But I never new how hard it was going to be. I can't even make a 10 mins video let alone an hour. This just proves the knowledge you have is truly great. Thank you again.
I actually really like how they changed things up so then Zoro had a night to prepare and Nami hadn't left yet. We actually got to see the tensions amongst the crew, got moments like Nami reading to an unconscious Zoro or the two of them drinking together or her arguing with Luffy, and what led to Nami leaving rather than having it all off screen or too fast paced. Too many modern stories nowadays don't know the value of slowing down and letting characters breathe and instead rather have everything happen one after another. The live action One Piece knows the value of it very well and it shows in episode 5-6.
Honestly could totally see Garp turning it down aond them either picking Sengoku or Garp suggesting him because Sengoku was straight up the only person Garp might even choose to listen to.
I always took Garp's Angry ranting and then bursting into laughter as more a "YOU FUCKING LITTLE SHIT!.... THATS MY BOY!!" Like he is infuriated that Luffy Damaged his ship... and then he's just proud of sheer audacity
I watched this with someone who's never seen One Piece and the horror on his face was priceless when he realized Zeff didn't have food and he ate his own leg so Sanji could eat the whole time
My favorite episode thus far. This one has so many tings that I love: The design of the Baratie (including the bar), the crew dynamic (including Usopp's dance and Zoro and Nami's drinking game), Taz as Sanji and his dynamic with Zeff, Garp's conversation with Koby, and literally everything Mihawk. This is Netflix at its best.
Honestly, Krieg getting axed isn't a big deal. In fact, that's the fate that Krieg should've originally suffered, and it's only 2 reasons that he goes as far as he did in manga and anime. 1. While Mihawk was wiping out his fleet on the Grand Line, a storm interfered, allowing Krieg's flagship to get away. 2. For some reason, instead of finishing what he started, after fighting Zoro, Mihawk just decided to leave, even after Krieg decides to take a potshot at him, he just leaves, and Luffy is forced to clean up after him. So, I'm perfectly fine with what they did here. If the main complaint is the fight between Luffy and Krieg getting cut to show "Luffy's perseverance", we get that in Season 2 in his fight with Crocodile after he gets poisoned.
2-3 weeks ago I finally got netflix mostly to watch this show and I'm glad I did! I enjoyed the show and other stuff I ended up watching after I finished One Piece Live action.
I find it fascinating how many reactions to this episode criticize Garp bringing a pair of cadets aboard his ship without realizing that real warships from the age of sail had midshipmen who could have been that young and some outright children would serve as powder boys.
One of my favorite is definitely Nami and Zoro's scenes, they have really good chemistry with each other (the actors), not in a romantic way, but like there's tension and depth in their conversations that just clicks and it expresses and can solidify their friendship much better!
18:46 I had noticed one of the bullets was gold and had gunpowder inside it so it was likely supposed to be a reference to his spear that would explode on contact
8:58 impression I got was he was feeling frustration/rage at Luffy’s defiance and a the familial pride of “did you see that?! My grandson just sent one if *my* canon balls back at us! I made him into one tough sonnovabitch!”
Learning about Garp this early does spoil any anime only watcher who has not gotten past Enies Lobby. There's that and also we have the one two punch of Garp being revealed to be Luffy's Grandfather AND we learn about Dragon and the revolutionary. So now, it is just gonna be a one punch, man.
The only thing that I wish the live-action added in the Mihawk fight was Zoro calling Luffy the Pirate King. Thar was a really impactful line for me, but overall the duel was great
The One Piece Live Action season 2 should be given very realistic 3D animation, rather than using actors. However there can be a pair of 1 to 3 minute long episodes using actors attached to every episode for celebrating influential actors.
Luffy trying to Pay with an I owe you was so Luffy, Also Luffy expecting people to know him is really arrogant when he hasn't done anything to make a name yet
My one problem with the liveaction is how they don't show Usopp's skills as a sniper. They even make a point to show that he doesn't know how to shoot a cannon
Even in the manga, in chapter 42, Usopp was surprised with himself that he hit the rock that Johnny and Yosaku were on first try. I don't think Usopp knew how to shoot a cannon in the manga either. He doesn't know how naturally gifted he is.
Cannons are not tools of a sharpshooter irl, nobody is gonna find that odd. Also theres no reason why he WOULD be familiar, hes never been in a naval battle or had reason to learn before that point.
I just love that the den den mushi have the same face features as their owners - Garp's has a beard and stache, Morgan's had his jaw plate. Is this something that's taken from the manga/anime?
Helmeppo's explaining the warlord system isn't as bad as you might think cuz it's ambigious if that's this generation of warlords or a previous one, there is left a lot of room to expand.
I think you glossed over Luffy telling Zeff off here. Luffy is taking his biased perspectie of his Grandpa Garp, and is viewing Zeff as another stuborn old man getting in the way of someone's dream, but is actually wrong. It establishes that while their are parallels with Zeff and Garp, there is also some contrasts that gets spotlighted in another episode. It's also just rare to see the main character Luffy, be morally in the wrong. He's got the right spirit, but is missing the context and is displaying a more narrow perspective than the anime counterpart, then is immediately proved to be mistaken, so it's like a subtle learning moment for Luffy to be more openminded.
Idk if you’d be interested with how busy your schedule is. But do you have any interest it making a Garling before and after? Like theory before the flashback how his character will be then compare after how right you were?

He did some un-excusable things due to his broken impulse control, but hopefully he will temper his blazing passion towards the safety and the success of the crew without losing himself in the final war to come.
The croak line comes from the Warrior type One Piece games as Mihawk says that there.
Omg they thought about everything
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS!
It would be super cool if they turn the old Barati set into an actual restaurant for one piece fans
I'm all on board for it, they need every possible source of income to have more budget during next seasons lol
Garp's mental breakdown in this episode (and the next one) had me cackling.
Hearing your reviews about this live action really make me want to watch it ☺️.
Finally. It only took like, 5 weeks since the last one. (Not hate or pressure to Tekking, I might add.).
These live action reviews seem to be Tekking content for breakweeks.
Tekking is reviewing these episodes at the pace he reviews the movies
We've been waitin for this one fire it up
2-3 weeks ago I finally got netflix mostly to watch this show and I'm glad I did! I enjoyed the show and other stuff I ended up watching after I finished One Piece Live action.
I thought you abandoned the show, I just finished episode 5 today and couldn't find the review.
I was worried you aren’t doing these but super glad your just taking your time, and as you should
I was in Vegas for twitchcon but WOOOOOO ITS HERE THANK YOU
I find it fascinating how many reactions to this episode criticize Garp bringing a pair of cadets aboard his ship without realizing that real warships from the age of sail had midshipmen who could have been that young and some outright children would serve as powder boys.
Mihawk was perfection.
Did anyone else just see what I saw? The legendary yoru was stopped by conqueror infused haki webs.
27:35 “treat yourself today..”
“an explosion in your mouth..”
“on the special menu..”
Mmm, let Sanji cook. 😏
Lmao
i loved how you breakdown the live action. good thing i really saw your videos. keep it up
Glad you’re back with these bro. Been waiting for this for a while 😂
This will save me from the OPBR maintenance slump
Opbr maintenance??
@jonathantalley6110 One Piece Bounty Rush. It's a mobile phone game
I like that he truly pegs who Luffy is because of the hat
HONESTLY YOU DON`T LOOK 30 MORE LIKE 18 -21
This episode was one of my favorite of the show. I just loved their interactions and sanji and zeff were picked really well.
I love they got a guy to play Mihawk that can speak in cursive
One of my favorite is definitely Nami and Zoro's scenes, they have really good chemistry with each other (the actors), not in a romantic way, but like there's tension and depth in their conversations that just clicks and it expresses and can solidify their friendship much better!
Finally!!!! I love those Live Action Breakdowns of urs
literally what could floating away on balloons possibly train you for?
Tekking you should put all these reviews in one video when you’re done.
Genius to do this on break weeks 👍 I’m all for it!
18:46 I had noticed one of the bullets was gold and had gunpowder inside it so it was likely supposed to be a reference to his spear that would explode on contact
You deserve to be recognized as the best anime TH-camr
tekking ur the goat fr fr
Day 141 of asking for a discussion video on Vice Admiral Tsuru he did one for Garp and Sengoku let the Marine Trio finnaly be completed
Wow Tekking got himself a Mihawk battle sword.
8:58 impression I got was he was feeling frustration/rage at Luffy’s defiance and a the familial pride of “did you see that?! My grandson just sent one if *my* canon balls back at us! I made him into one tough sonnovabitch!”
"Though I do like your hat." My family, who was watching with me had no idea why that line made me bust out laughing.
The exclusion of johnny and yosaku left me in tears
56:45
Tekking remembered the minority hunter Zoro thing here😂😂😂😂
Christmas came early
bro's the king of yappin and i'm not mad
17:45 yoooo hahahhaaaa… 36:20 really love this change……
The only thing that I wish the live-action added in the Mihawk fight was Zoro calling Luffy the Pirate King. Thar was a really impactful line for me, but overall the duel was great
The One Piece Live Action season 2 should be given very realistic 3D animation, rather than using actors. However there can be a pair of 1 to 3 minute long episodes using actors attached to every episode for celebrating influential actors.
Garp is a Mihawk fan and Luffy is a Shanks fan
Luffy trying to Pay with an I owe you was so Luffy, Also Luffy expecting people to know him is really arrogant when he hasn't done anything to make a name yet
Nice to hear you can be critical for once and not just praising every decision as gods work.
Man, I'm excited for ipponmatsu in the next season. The legend himself
Sanji and Zeff's actors were chefs kiss 🤌🤌 pun intended
Also drunk Usopp is HILARIOUSSSS
One piece opening on spacetoon they did the drums of liberation before finishing even alabasta
I'm impressed at how accurate Mihawk is
My one problem with the liveaction is how they don't show Usopp's skills as a sniper.
Why would a sniper know about canons? Besides ussop underestimates his aim often
I just love that the den den mushi have the same face features as their owners - Garp's has a beard and stache, Morgan's had his jaw plate. Is this something that's taken from the manga/anime?
jits been so long since episodes 3 and 4 breakdown that i genuinely thought you gave up on them
Man I miss Sanji's rizz.
Helmeppo's explaining the warlord system isn't as bad as you might think cuz it's ambigious if that's this generation of warlords or a previous one, there is left a lot of room to expand.
I was waiting for this 😁
I completely forgot you were reviewing this show
I think you glossed over Luffy telling Zeff off here.
Well they had to cut out jango so there no point in making full body memorabilia
Who else thought that Tekking just gave up on the opla analysis?
I loved the balloon CGI. Didn’t see anything wrong with it.
I think they specifically use it to show Garp and Luffy's relationship. 37:50
Weird, how did I miss episode 2, 3 and 4?
I cant wait to see Virgo walking around with a Salisbury steak stuck to his face xD
Idk if you’d be interested with how busy your schedule is. But do you have any interest it making a Garling before and after? Like theory before the flashback how his character will be then compare after how right you were?
I feel this specific Arc of One Piece it's more to focus on Kobe's character more than Luffy's.
