Smart decision, having just purchased the Canon R6! I kind of realised how good my xt4 actually is. Fuji is my personal, wildlife camera and my Full frame system canon I have always used for my weddings and portraits. APSc is not all the same. I have had the canon 80d and many other APSc bodies but the Fuji seems to be a step up from that, and somewhere closer to full frame IQ maybe the X trans sensor and Fuji glass has a lot to say about it. But honestly your absolutely right, to gain the full benefits from mirrorless I would need to use R series glass, I am currently adapting L series lenses and I’m not getting any better IQ then my XT4! Yes maybe in low light the R6 is about a stop Better regarding noise and yes the R6 face/eye detect is also a bit better then the XT4 but it’s not a significant difference for my customers to notice, I have started using my Xt4 a lot more on my weddings lately along side the R6 and the files coming into capture one are both great, and both very equivalent even pixel peepers would struggle to see much difference.
This is all great to hear coming from someone who has real practical experience with both cameras. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. 😁📷
Can't get a more honest experience than yours Booray! You had me laughing, as I know that feeling of relief & excitement all too well. Super video! Looking forward to your ongoing reviews of your new gear. Congrats!
Welcome to the club....I made the switch to Fuji from Canon, waaaaay back in 2018😎 after 37 years. I was a news shooter going back to 1982, married into the Canon system several years earlier when I was in college. Upon leaving the photojournalism field around 2015, I no longer had any desire to carry around 3 heavy Canons and ’L’ glass, so I began looking at mirrorless. Tried Sony, Olympus, Panasonic but the li”l Fujis with those retro designs and old school dials that I learned photography on back in the 70s, it was a no-brainer and I have not looked back. Picked up an X-T2w/batt grp, X-E2s, X-Pro2,50-140, 18-55, 56 1.2, 10-24, 16 2.8, when I traded in my 2x 1DX and 7Dll, along with most of my ’L’ glass, and still had change. While my Fuji kit is a bit dated, it still gets the job(s) done. That said, I am lusting after the X-Pro3, I have a weakness for rangefinder(style) cameras.
I switched two years ago after starting with an X100F for exactly the reasons you are quoting today. The 16-55/50-140 XF lenses are so good ! (and you already have a 23F2) Congrats / DR
I wish I’d seen this when it was new… I switched from a 5Diii to an EOS RP just to see what canon’s mirrorless lineup was like, and after really enjoying it with the RF 24-105 I was ready to make the big jump and ditch my L series EF glass and go full investment to RF, but at the same time I was interested in buying my first fuji to have as a walk around fun camera. Ultimately because of the release of the RF 50mm F1.8 and a rumored small RF 24mm F1.8 STM I decided to get that in order to make my “work camera” also function as a fun little camera, and today I own the R6 with RF 24-70 and RF 70-200… I’m very happy with it but I do bring it along less than I imagine I would’ve brought a little fooj along to non-work events. I chose canon because it seemed like it could step down from my workhorse to somewhat easily fill the need of a fun camera (especially now with the RF 16mm F2.8, and hopefully other tiny remarkable lenses like that to come), but I didn’t even price out the idea of letting fuji become my workhorse. Ps: I love your channel, found it and subscribed today.
Sell ur rp , ive had it for 3 years and dont know why ive stayed with it and with canon. Boring camera , boring company that cares only about sales. Canon=cripple hammer. Moving to fuji and couldnt be happier. Fuji, pentax , from my experience - real brands that care and provide tools for artists , sorry, other brands are just tossing marketing and specs to youtubers and consumers and even pros that just blinds them and thus the rest of the community.
Congratulations! I made the Canon to Fuji switch on late 2016 and the system just keeps getting better! The T4 is great! 10-24, 16-55, 50-140. Primes will come later for me. 😀
Almost the same exact thing happened to me, except with the 5D Mark II and the original x100. I was looking at the quality of Fuji glass compared with their Canon counterparts and the vast difference in price... the Fuji X-series autofocus wasn't that good at the time but was still better than the 5D II. Been a Fuji shooter ever since. X-T4 was worth the money for IBIS alone, but is a great camera in every respect.
I just found your video and it was apropos for me as I have a Fuji X-T4 on its way to me - although, because of the disruption to the logistics network it has been stuck in Australia for three weeks now ( I live in NZ). Like you, I have been a Canon shooter since I moved to digital almost 20 years ago. I have a massive investment in Canon gear, as I rarely sold it, so I have a menagerie of bodies and lenses. I also shoot Olympus and Sony, and I jumped ship to buy the Nikon Df because of its fusion of 1890's controls and a top end digital body - and I shoot with it today. What drew me to the Fuji XT-4 was the same control interface, and the fact that it seems to be the best APS-C body on the market right now - pending the release of an Canon R7 (if that ever happens). It's not my main camera, but I will use it with the16-80 Fuji lens and the new, and highly rated Tamron 18-300 super zoom for Fuji: itself an interesting development as Fuji seems to have been reluctant to support 3rd party lens makers. Of course, a lot depends on what and how you shoot. I tend towards wildlife, scenic and travel, and the Fuji will find its place in my pack when I go multi-day hiking. Still, I will be interested to see how you have fared using the camera since this post.
@@BoorayPerry Thank you for responding! I will let you know when I can actually put it on the Fuji body I ordered. My camera is celebrating its THIRD week stuck in a logistics facility in Australia. NZ is at the dead end of a long pipeline, and many carriers have reduced their services here, so packages (even priority ones) are taking inordinately long times to get here. My initial physical exam of the lens is that it is built to a decent standard - everything is tight (but not too much so) and the movement is smooth. The rest is yet to be known.
Congratulations. I made almost the same switch although I've never had a full canon kit ever. I recently bought the X-T4 and lenses and other gear after initially aiming for that R5. For Canon, I just plan to go back and collect the old classics at way better prices.
ok, i have watched all your videos on the XT4. I have a Nikon D800 and 3 2.8 heavy heavy lenses. Sitting in a drawer for years. Then got a Sony 7 R and a zoom lens. Good but old . and slow!!! READY for a new camera!!!! SO WHAT DO YOU SAY
Congrats ! I did the same thing with my Nikon gear. Now I'm on XPro-2 and XH-1 which I like very much. Also have 16mm, 35mm and 56mm, from zoom I do have 16-35mm and 50-140mm They are all very nice and sure I do heve my favorites from the bunch but if I will be complete hones I"m a Little disappointed with 16-35 mm low light performance. Hopefully It's not going to be you'r experience. It's good lens but need also lots of light once you take it inside to challenging light condition it show its weakness. On the other hand when I use it with my godax flash its work horse. I do agree with you X mount system from Fuji is good enough for professional work not to mention wait sawing which was one of the reason to go mirrorless. Happy shooting with Fuji.
I use flashes whenever I am working in low light at an event but it's good to know that it might be a problem. I suspect I will get a couple of primes at some point anyway 🙂
I am so close to switching from my Canon 5D MkIV (which my local camera stores are now considering obselete) to a Fuji XT-4. I shoot architecture and real estate, and in that world it seems like almost no one uses Fuji so I'm going to rent an XT-4 for a shoot and figure out if its usable. I'm in the same boat as you, because I purchased an X100V over a year ago, and I'm still amazed at the image quality I get from it. Especially with colors. Skies always come out good, which will come in handy in Real Estate, and sharpness, contrast, and *color accuracy* will help me in the real estate world. So sick of having to tweak colors in my image because the Canon just makes Blues, Greens, and Reds look soooo ugly and cartoonish. Excited to see the results!
Full frame camera manufacturers are being saved by third party lens manufacturers. Body and lens kits of high quality from Sony, Canon or Nikon price most people out of the FF market. If it weren't for Tamron, Sigma and Viltrox, they would have little to draw the consumer or prosumer customer base due to the incredible costs of full frame proprietary brand lenses and bodies. Fuji predicted the market masterfully.
Thanks for this detailed video. It is nice watching someone who is a professional and shops gear in the real world. It is easy to feel bad when the top camera youtubers review camera bodies alone that cost 4000$+ I wanted a full frame camera that is good for video (taking good pics was a bonus) After extensive research (looking 5-10 years ahead like you did and looking a the cost of lenses) I chose the Panasonic Lumix S5 I was looking at the Sony A7 IV 2800 Euro body only and the Sony A7S III 4000 Euro body only. I found a deal on the Panasonic Lumix S5 for 2000 Euro with the Kit Lens 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 and a Panasonic 35mm f/1.8 included for FREE (both lens cost 1300 Euro if purchased together separately (around 650 Euro each)) A lot of people said Panasonic Auto Focus is bad. However after research and watching specific Auto Focus videos I realized the Autofocus is OK for my specific needs. People, research carefully and find what works for you and your budget. And think for the future.
Congratulations to a very good choice!🎉 I did almost the same journey coming from Nikon. I got the X100F some years ago and started to notice that I was enjoying shooting with that much more than the Nikon system, so this summer I went with Fuji all the way. Bought the X-T4 and 6 lenses. I totally love this camera and its lenses!😍 I'm been looking at many of your old videos and I'm really looking forward to your upcoming ones now when you're a full-time Fuji shooter. Love your videos! Keep on shooting!✌😎
I have used a 5D Mark three for the last four years and I have seriously been considering the switch to Fuji XT series and had this voice in the back of my head telling me that I would not get hired if I switched to an APSC system. I worried about this despite all of the research that I’ve done recently about Fuji cameras and their lack of need for a full frame system. It is so compelling to me because I thought for a minute that the APSC technology has just completely outgrown what it was four years ago especially with Fujifilm. And then I clicked on this video and every single one of your points here hit home to me. The old-school medium format comparison to full frame just made so much sense. The game has really changed rather quickly and with Fujifilm’s price point, I can’t justify not switching especially considering the user experience that Fujifilm incorporates into their camera bodies. You touched up on a few points that I had been considering recently and I appreciate your input here. Congrats on the jump!
Those are some fantastic comments Mike I really appreciate it. of course the rapper has not hit the road yet, I still have to work with this new gear to really see if it can meet the standards that I expect if it. I'm glad my points hit home with you, and I wish that I could say that I didn't spend hours and hours and hours thinking about every little thing. But when all of a sudden done I realized that the real big question is: is aps-c good enough that my clients will never know the difference? I guess we'll find out. 😁😁
I am currently a Fuji shooter (X-Pro-2) but I am considering a switch to the Canon. I've wanted to upgrade for years now but find nothing in the current Fuji lineup worth moving to. I've shot with an R6 and I can tell you that the low-light performance and dynamic range is significantly better than Fuji. Same with the auto-focus, eye-detect, video, and battery life. The Fuji IBIS is also far behind Canon or Sony. The 16-55 and especially the 50-140 are great lenses but they are much too large and heavy (even with a grip) for any X-body. Your mileage may vary.
Congratulations Booray on making the switch. I've been impressed with my Fuji, and of course they are gorgeous looking cameras. Look forward to your future video posts about the user experience.
I started with Fuji. But then I fell into the full frame rabbit hole and pulled the trigger on a Nikon d780 ... Well, I've been doing it all wrong. Turns out the Fuji, when shooting raw, and with the highest dynamic range etc modes, well well well.. I can't deny the Fuji is more than capable!!!
Congrats! I look forward to following your story as you move to Fuji. I shot Sony for 4 years and am moving in the same direction. I still use the Sony for low light situations (theatre productions primarily) but all of my portrait work and personal shooting is now with Fuji.
You mention about interesting transition between Medium format to Full frame to now being apsc. You are a great story teller. Of course what you are speaking are facts, but it should make sense and make a logical transition too in another's mind.
How exciting. Same logic that I used to go Fujifilm. Earlier I had some issues regarding the ergonomics of extended handling the Fuji's top mounted shutter release button at events, weddings, etc. Finally I found a solution to even that problem and absolutely love the XT-4 / XT-30 system and lenses. As a bonus, it's just plain more fun to shoot with.
@@BoorayPerry It's one of those gotta try it to believe it things. Basically the problem is that when I hold the Fuji square in my hand, I have to lift my trigger finger up to an unnatural height to actuate the shutter button. This is fine for a while but quite the pain for long events. I eventually figured out how to strap it to my hand that works for me. I haven't been shooting weddings lately (being 2020) so I can't take a pic (although I could probably find some from earlier). Basically it involves the following. I use the larger spider pro hand strap (the kind with the safety wrist strap). I don't recall if it is version 1 or 2 of the spider strap. I attach it, in combination with a hand grip designed for my XT3 (I haven't tried this on my XT4 yet but am sure it will work fine). The important part is to place the spider strap between the camera and the bottom plate of the hand grip such that the spider strap exits towards the front of the camera (not to the side or towards the back of the camera). If I recall it comes out by at least 45 degrees if only to not interfere with the battery access panel. The trick then is to find the sweet spot of adjusting the length and angle of the strap that exactly fits your hand such that when you let go of the camera, it just stays in the correct position and such that your trigger finger just naturally lands on the shutter release. The added hand grip attachment makes it quite comfortable. You have to get creative with how to attach and adjust the top connection of the spider strap to the camera as well. But by adjusting the top and bottom strap attachments and angles it can be customized to your hand. I usually also attach a larger shutter button just to have a bigger surface to press. I go back and forth on using a thumb grip but usually don't find it necessary. Just as important, I attach a spider post on the bottom plate so that I can quickly release it onto a spider belt clip. When you have a camera "glued" onto your shooting hand, you want a way to shed it quickly when someone hands you a piece of cake (or maybe a drink). Also I only put this strap setup on one camera body so that I don't have to always use it depending on what I'm shooting. The camera is quite comfortable to hold, whether shooting or not, assuming you're willing to put a lot of trust in the strap not breaking -- I often use the wrist safety strap for peace of mind and rarely even grip the camera when I'm not using it.
@@DJshutterfly This is a great detailed explanation. I actually own a spider strap so I may try it. I've never liked strapping a camera to my hand. I think a big part of my problem is that I have always supported too much of the camera weight with my grip instead of my left palm.
Congrats for your switch to Fujifilm, Booray and welcome to the Fujifilm family! I’m a fellow Fujifilm X-T4 user and will be picking up the X100V very soon😊 you’ll have a fantastic time using Fujifilm! You’ll be in a bigger rabbit hole when you get into the Fuji primes, especially with the “worst lens of 2020” (according to DPreview TV) in the 50mm F1.0, you’ll get near full frame quality out of it!
Thanks for that personal insight. Now at a similar crossroads. Mirrorless is a must for me if I'm going to shoot more video, especially for the IBIS and other video features which are standard with all mirrorless brands. A Canon shooter for years with a range of L-glass lenses and the 5DIV as my main camera I will probably keep the Canon DSLR/EF gear and move to Fuji for my mirrorless journey. It is as you say the sheer value for money issue. Canon are seriously taking the piss with their R series lens prices - don't care how good they are. Am I going to be paid more for my pictures or my time to shoot with these lenses. Sharper images are lost on most clients - how bloody sharp or noise free do your images need to be?? And may be as you suggest Fuji APSC is now good enough. But also for me I have always admired the aesthetics and ergonomics of the Fuji brand. Have shopt with a borrowed X-T2 for a while and loved using it - just wanted any excuse to use it. Especially taken by your decision because seems you shoot a lot of low light events as I have and full frame has traditionally been the 'only' choice. Anyway still deciding :/
Great video Booray and good luck with it. I'm slowly replacing my Nikon gear the last bits will go next year (only a D3, SB700 and nifty fifty left) . XT-3 and X100V are both beautiful cameras, I'm so pleased with them.
Congrats on the new camera exciting times for sure. But I mean if you are comparing things to the 5DmkIII. That 5DmkIII sensor really sucks by today's standards. It was good in 2015 but any modern camera will out preform it now. I'm gonna check out some of your more recent videos. I'm curious about the x-t4.
I am a long time enthusiast Canon stills shooter (6D , 7d,7Dii , +10 or more lenses). Last week my daughter messaged me asking what I thought about the X-T30 , she has out grown her phone camera and is interested in portraiture and travel photography. She considers my bulky bodies and glass an anachronistic , masochistic , joke . Knowing nothing about Fuji , I started researching and after an afternoon with Mr Google , told her that the 30 would be a good choice. After a further 2 days researching , I am just about ready to jump ship myself . I am actually looking at the exact setup , camera and lenses , that you have settled on , plus an 8-16 if the finances stretch that far. If I liquidate my existing bodies and lenses , I should be able to do it for minimal change over expense. Good luck and keep us updated please .
lol... yes, the 8-16 would be nice but I can't justify the cost. However, The Vitrox 56mm 1.4 that arrives tomorrow makes perfect sense. :) Review to come.
Felicitaciones!!! Estamos seguros que la X-T4 Te va a dar muchas alegrías y vas a sacar lo mejore del sistema Fuji. Saludos desde Argentina compañero Fujistas !
Congrats. I was literally driving home today debating on getting the XT-4 as a Christmas gift from me to me. I shot Canon for 40 years and last year switched to Sony. But just as you said, ever since I got the Fuji X100 -V earlier this year, I have been yearning for the XT-4. I just about talked myself out of it and saw your video. So Santa just might be good to me! 🤣. Enjoy and I look forward to the upcoming videos about it.
Outstanding, thoughtful and well considered video. Price and especially less weight are important considerations. Sony just announced release of A7 IV and will decide between this and Fuji XT 4. As I shoot exclusively landscape and portrait, the full frame has appeal BUT I will factor in your comments about “good enough”. Great video. Thank you....
i am glad for you and for myself, because i am curious what you will tell about my beloved camera, the xt4!! congrats you got yourself a new fuji describer!!
I don't understand what makes cf cards so incredibly expensive. SSD (pcie nvme) storage is four times faster than it and costs like 250 for 2TERABYTES instead of 500 dollars for 256GB also these modern pcie ssds are quite tiny
I was happy with my A73 and got the X100V, got an XT4 and sold A73, sold X100V and got R5. I got the R5 purely to make up for when ultimate autofocus is absolutely essential. But my XT4 is with me all day everyday and is my personal project camera.
That's a helpful tip, thanks!! I also noticed Fuji screens aren't true to exposure (maybe I just turned it on too bright), ended up with lots of photos 2-3 stops under hahaha. Gotta learn somewhere somehow.
Also the fact that fuji has gone all in on crop and medium format and ignored full frame completely makes them the obvious choice for anyone interested in a crop sensor camera. You know they are committed long term and everything is going to be geared toward those formats, and the lenses are not just some afterthought product line that might be cut at any time. I'm old skool nikon, but their future is, at best, uncertain. Having used an XT-3 I rented for a weekend I will be making the switch to Fuji (xt-4) as soon as I have the budget to do so.
Just made a switch from Nikon D800 to Fuji XT-4. It was a tough decision though definitely worth it. Just from experience/preference spend less and get the peak design sling strap I find it more comfortable and doesn't get in the way especially when you shoot in the vertical orientation
I'm wondering what your fugi system would have cost once the XH2 comes out. Probably a little bit more. Not sure if it would be worth it but since I'm in no hurry I'm going to wait and look at the XH2. I'd be happy with an xpro3 except for the "drop down" LCD. Question, you definitely like the fugi APC over the Olympus micro 4/3's?
I'm anxiously awaiting the X-H2. It will have Fuji's first new chip in almost a decade and I suspect I will be buying it. I don't like Micro 4/3 yet because it hasn't crossed the threshold yet for professional event photography. It will though, you can count on it.
Great video! Fujifilm cameras are great cameras. I understand where some of the skepticism comes from regarding aps-c sensors. Most manufacturers only make crippled entry-level aps-c cameras.
Great video. Because of the joystick and the full screen auto focus point coverage. I am not using back button focus on my Fuji X-T4. Therefore I am using the AEL button for image review playback. And then the joystick is right underneath that button. So it's easy to review images with my thumb. Just press the AEL button. And work the joystick. I can even play video by pressing the joystick down. My only real complaint is that the when using the rear wheel I press the button in often. I've read this is a common problem. So I have assigned the rear wheel button press into none. And I've assigned the AF ON button to histogram. And my rear wheel to ISO. And my front wheel to cycle between shutter speed or aperture f-stop. This allows me to press the AF ON button with my thumb to pull up the histogram. And then work the front dial or rear dial as needed to move the histogram left and right. This camera is the best camera I've ever used for quickly pulling up the histogram and quickly adjusting dials to move the histogram left and right. Before taking an image. I just thought I would add my two cents. Most people love the top dials of the Fuji cameras. But I admit I have locked the ISO dial to C. And the shutter speed dial to T. And then just use the front and back dial while looking through the viewfinder.
Those are some great tips. I have my preview button mapped to the front button (the one on the camera face, not the dial.) It's right under my finger all the time for quick review. :)
Good Evening, Booray. Loved the video. Being a dedicated Fuji user, it has made sense to me for quite sometime. However, I am an enthusiast so the planning and changing tools is completely a different frame of reference than being a professional photographer. So, “good enough” will always offset prioritizing perfectionism which is not how we make meaningful changes. This is a meaningful and thoughtful change. Congratulations. Wayne
Thanks for commenting Wayne. I hope that people don't take my "good enough" line to mean that I am "settling" by switching to Fuji. I simply mean that there comes a point where added expense outweighs value. I believe that we may be at that point now regarding Full-frame cameras. :)
Just got the 16-55 after returning the 18-130. It is such a great lens! Congrats on the switch! My cousin got into photography because he wanted to make money doing it. He bought cannon gear. He doesn’t often just shoot for fun. I however got into photography as a hobby and was immediately drawn to Fuji. He didn’t understand why I wouldn’t go full frame. Fuji cameras make you want to shoot for fun. I think you will be very happy beyond using Fuji as your pro gear.
@@BoorayPerry absolutely. I just recently got the xt2 after having the 100f and I find myself grabbing the xt2 more than I thought I would. Excited for future videos!
Just shipped my Nikon D750, Sony A6000, Canon T5i and Panasonic GX85 in for trade. For a Fuji APS-C system. D750 is awesome but no fear about Fuji image quality, lens awesomeness, etc. Waiting for the quote and my X-H1 and X-T1 (yea, the OLD XT-1) are on hold along with a system of lenses (primes and zooms). Edit: APS-C in 2018-2021 has dynamic range, color depth, etc. besting Full Frame Nikons like the D700, D800 and D3. Don't know if current APS-C will ever match current Full Frame, but at some point we have to get reasonable about expectations. They're already beating "the best" from not long ago.
Welcome to the Fuji world. I'm also a convert. The x100 was the gateway drug for me in Sep 2011. Shot Canon from as early as 1975. Entered the digital world with original Rebel. Progressed to 10D, 20D, 30D, 5D I, 5D II, 5D III. Then came that wonderful x100. The rest is history. Fuji lenses are sweet. I don't miss Canon at all. If you're on facebook, have a look at this site which is dedicated to Fuji fans that have pimped their gear to get some ideas on how to accessorize your Fujis. Search for "Pimped-out Fujifilm-X" on facebook. I look forward to enjoying your upcoming Fuji content on this channel.
That’s funny, because I had a Nikon D500, which is a crop sensor camera, and it was good enough and more than adequate for the job. I believe it was released in 2016 and to this day, I praise that camera being the absolute best apsc DSLR with stellar specs. If it wasn’t for wanting to switch to mirrorless, I would have stayed with that camera. I think you definitely have a great point on where crop sensor is going. Makes sense saying Fuji doesn’t even sell a full frame. No need if apsc is good enough.
Fantastic. Looking forward to hearing about your complete experience over time. I absolutely love the Fiji system. I gave it a real go for two years and just now went BACK to the Canon RF system. I'm going to say it just came down to personal preference and a few small quirks that I could just never get over. Most likely user error! I will say this, their zooms and prime top-of-the-line glass IS lighter but my kit with a grip over a few hours will weigh on you. Have fun with new kit
I always like to hear decision factors from a professional. In this case I really would like to ask you, if you don't really rely on autofocus capabilities, why didn't you look at the Pentax system? especially considering you was shooting Pentax in the past. It is much much cheaper than Canon and others, It's a full frame, it has just unbeatable ergonomics that you pay so much attention for obvious reasons, weather sealing and etc. The full frame body with two lenses you mentioned would cost you 4,890 instead of 7,500 or 8,900. One single downside imho is that it's a little bit heavier than Canon if you compare it to mirrorless.
APSC f2.8 roughly equal to FF f4. If you compare this set: R6 + 24-105 f4L, which is equivalent to 16-70 f2.8 in APSC, compare to X-T4 + 16-55 f2.8, the price difference is $700, but you get better lens resolution, longer reach (70mm vs 55mm in APSC), better sensor, better focus, better IBIS, better 4K movie in some setup, and the weight difference between these two set is quite small (~100g). Me too trying to decide R6 vs X-T4 because I like the look of X-T4 and fuji lens and I almost pull the trigger after watching your video, but canon system simply appears to be more capable and some of the RF lens is not that expensive. If you compare RF 24-105 f4L vs fuji 16-55 f2.8, the canon lens is better in almost every way and it is $100 cheaper.
f2.8 is equal to f4 in terms of DOF but not in terms of exposure. You are still losing a stop of light by going with f4. Not saying it can't work (I've said that if I had stayed with Canon I would have gotten an f4 70-200mm instead of my f2.8). This will also sound weird but I like the idea of having the best camera that Fuji makes vs. getting the 2nd best Canon. :)
It's doesn't matter, r6 is a full frame, which is much better in low light,. Even it is in f4,. F4 will also make your pictures much sharper,. Rather than crop f2.8 I am wedding photographer,. I want the best quality image for my clients,. That's why I need the best lenses out there,.
I'm just a hobbyist. Many years ago I went digital with Nikon, but the cost was painful. I moved to fuji with the XT1, main reasons were similar to yours. Size and overall cost. I didn't need professional output, but I now have the XT3 so I get that too. Nikon and Canon have moved too slowly. I don't want to see them go, but their market must be disappearing fast. I could never go back the bulk and weight of those systems, even if the price came crashing down.
I have been online looking for opinions on this, doing a list on amazon to see how much would it costs.. i haven sleep to much ether jajaja. but since i did the price comparison I cant stop thinking it might be a good idea.. I have also a 5dm3 with a couple of L lenses.. selling everything i could get the same mone for buying the xt4 with 3 amazing lenses, extra batteries and some accsesories.. But it aint easy. Im still afraid of switching I really need to try it first.. Thanks for you video, ill check for your updates!
So far no regrets and I have been having a blast using a new system. I'll be doing a "6 month" update soon and detail with images my experiences so far. Good luck!
You did a great job explaining your choices. If you don't mind me making a pun...I can truly say Hooray for Booray!! Also can you tell me where to get / what model / mfg. of glasses are you wearing? What kind of straw were you drinking from. I would seriously like a pair of glasses like yours as well as the straw. Thanks so much for whatever info you can send my way.
@@BoorayPerry Thank you and keep up the good work on your reviews etc. I shot events for over 30 years, using med. format film and eventually graduated to digital in 1996. And found myself debating full frame digital vs. crop sensor cameras just like you did in 2020. Truth be told i personally like everything, depending on what the job calls for. But that being said, Fuji is a great company and I predict that you will be totally successful with the gear you highlighted on the video.
Great video, but the thing about APS-C not making a "better" image than full frame with, for example, high ISOs is really subjective. I shoot with Fuji now and I love the look of the noise in comparison with my old Canon and Sony, specially in Black and White.
Would you consider suggesting the Fujifilm X-S10 or an X-T3 to some weekend warrior shooters (as a side hustle). I enjoy this episode and congratulations on your new (last, according to you) system.
If, by side hustle, you mean that you will be doing it for money then I would suggest the XT3. It just has more professional features like two card slots. It's also just set up more like a professional camera the way that you can see your settings and change them easily, it has a d-pad, etc. If I was suggesting a camera for someone who just wanted to take pictures and didn't want to learn a thing about photography then I would suggest the x-s10. It's a fine camera.
@@BoorayPerry Thanks much sir. Like you, I first started with a Pentax (that digital red k-x) now I would want a camera with faster and accurate AF for family photos (kids with flailing arms!)
Great post. I both agree and disagree!! Yes, one can argue how, with tech advances, aps-c can replace FF the way FF replaced medium format in many uses. But theres a reason why they still make medium format cameras, and why thats now the fuji flagship. Your economics makes sense, especially that remaining with canon would require a repurchase if new bodies and lenses thanks to the RF update. So economically the move to fuji makes sense. However, for clean objective image taking, I still rely on canon, while using fuji for OOC subjective shooting.
Thanks for the 1970s studio MF vs later 35mm studio use as good enough. I'll use that argument if people query why I got into Fujifilm APS-C. I don't like using the word fullframe because that's makes people think that's some ultimate end point that must be reached based on natural truth, when of course it's just an arbitrary convention. Despite all this being said, Fujfilms's MF GFX cameras seem wonderful and an ultimate current end point!
I just thought of another great analogy: No one says that their six cylinder car is a "crop cylinder" because back in the 50s every car was an 8 cylinder. 🤣🤣
@@BoorayPerry I had to ponder your analogy. I didn't know 1950s cars were 8 cylinders as a norm. From what I could glean online, in my country, 1950s cars were either underpowered British fours, or local sixes. I wouldn't worry about an analogy. Just don't use the phrase crop sensor. Again, like "full frame", it's prejudicial, and gives an unknowing misleading presumption. The funny thing is, according to Wikipedia, 35 mm was actually originally a crop (slicing) of 70 mm and the ends spliced together. And it was known as miniature format or the like originally. The presumptuous and ultimately meaningless prejudicial phrases "full frame" and "crop sensor" just need to be stopped being used. In addition to this, I don't know why lenses are classified by focal lengths rather than a universal angle of view. Focal lengths are routinely converted to 35 mm format focal lengths for a common communication reference. This again gives a subconscious understanding that there is a natural law to the 35 mm format, when it's just an arbitrary standard. Why should we convert to this? If angle of view values were used (in degrees), then lenses from any format would be immediately recognisable for what it is. I can't help to think that in the past, the terms "fullframe" "crop" and "focal lengths" was a corporate marketing strategy by Leica (or Nikon?) to cement their product as the design language. You have a small TH-cam channel, and I'm just one comment on it. But I just wish there was a movement, or a standards language overhaul to describe sensors by their measured size or a non-comparative moniker, and all lenses are described by their angle of view.
Hi, and congrats! I'm 73 and caught a step on you. I got an X100V last March for a handy go to cam......was so impressed I jumped all in. Sold my Canon 5D Mkiii and lenses and bought the Fujifilm X-T4 (and some lenses). At my age after nearly 50 years of photography this was not the easiest move but very likely the final one. After this Fuji full monty, I am so satisfied with build and images I am completely at ease with the move. In your video, I appreciated your comments regarding "good enough", etc. I have over 20K images in Lightroom catalog and too many old transparencies to count. The best of my photos are NOT related to brand, technology, or sensor size. They are from my eye and heart. I expect the best yet again in these Fuji cams. efirdphotoblog.com
I went the other way, from Fuji to Nikon Z. My experience was the so called “minimalist” Fuji system actually ended up with me having more gear. The 56mm 1.2 if their best lens but too slow for fast action. Their 23mm f1.4 is fantastic but not weather sealed. The 16-55mm is fine but does not have IS, etc. I now have the Z5 and only 2 lenses and the quality is amazing. Just my 2 cents. If you’re thinking about shooting Fuji keep that in mind. Their best combo is probably the 23, 50, 90 f/2
The only issue is that just as crop sensory as become good enough full frames like my Nikon Z7 45 megapixel is smaller than a Fuji XT4 26 megapixel And fast pro lenses are as big as each other (just look at the 50mm f1 Fuji), only the slow lenses on crop sensor are smaller
When I did my previous video I noted that the weight didn't feel that much different in the hand but in fact it's about a third less and there's a picture in that video of my Canon and Fuji side by side and the Fuji with its long zoom is noticeably smaller. There's no doubt that if you're going to use fast zoom lenses you're going to have a lot more weight. I suspect that I will attempt to move more towards using some primes in the future.
Crop camera lenses on average are still lighter/smaller then fullframe mirrorless, of course there will be some exceptions, the fuji 50 mm f1.0 is a rare lens and first of it kind, and what about the price? You have to factor in the cost as well. The nikon Z mount 24-70 f2.8 weighs 805 grams costs $3,500 aud. vs Fuji 16-55 f2.8 weighs 655 grams & costs $1,500 aud. Im sure u can see his reasoning
I am NOT a PRO, and don’t have a lot of data about sensors, etc. I’ve owned several Canon DSLRs (10D, 40D, and 7D; still have the 7D). I’ve owned one L lens (100-400), and recently sold it and other Canon lenses to buy the X100V after owning the X100S. I just know that the X100 models take damn good photos, and are easy to take-along. I travel now and then, or have before the pandemic, so when I look at the 7D and assorted lenses that I still own the choice of what to carry is a no-brainer. Just my 2 cents. Almost forgot... I also own an X-T2, and two fuji lenses. They are ‘good enough’
I own a Canon 5d mark II (more than 10 years) and a Fujifilm XT4 (few months) and I still prefer my Canon for the images and the solid, trusty ergonomics. I love the fuji for its portability. I am struggling to accept the switching to fuji but I think I will never sell my Canon.
congrats on your choice! on amazon- order the viltrox 23 and 56 1.4 lenses- both are about $340. You can return them in 30 days or less if you dont like them. I promise you ... they will be your go to on the x-t4
I've been looking at these lenses and I know that a lot of Fuji shooters love them. I'm not crazy about the idea of manual focus. I do have a question: when using manual focus with these lens do you still get the red indicators in your picture that tell you what's in focus? If there is one thing about Fuji that I don't like it's the fact that they have not done a good job of coming out with really wide lenses.
@@BoorayPerry these are all auto focus. Viltrox makes 4 af lenses for fuji ... 23 1.4, 33 1.4, 56 1.4 and 85 1.4. If you buy from amazon you can easily return if you dont love them. They are amazing.
"I am a Fuji shooter" you gave me goosebumps. Welcome to the family! ❤️
I loved this guy heheh, so simple and genuine!
TH-cam lacks content like this.
That's a wonderful thing to say. Thanks! :)
I love my XT-3 and XT-4. The old style design with the knobs have made me really comfortable with shooting in manual mode.
I got the X-s10 and then traded up to an XT4 a few months later and the dials make learning photography actually easier than the "Simpler" set up.
Awesome! I did the same a couple of months ago and I don't regret it. I'm having fun with it still.
Can't get a more honest experience than yours Booray! You had me laughing, as I know that feeling of relief & excitement all too well. Super video! Looking forward to your ongoing reviews of your new gear. Congrats!
Possibly the best comment I've ever received! Thank you 📷😁🤣
Welcome to the club....I made the switch to Fuji from Canon, waaaaay back in 2018😎 after 37 years.
That camera is beautiful and I have a soft spot in my heart for it as well 📷❤️
I switched two years ago after starting with an X100F for exactly the reasons you are quoting today. The 16-55/50-140 XF lenses are so good ! (and you already have a 23F2) Congrats / DR
2020 the year of change in so many ways. Thanks for again validating Fuji. Merry Christmas and keep shooting.
It's a big step and to be sure there are some drawbacks to switching to APS-C. I think that either way your all good so don't fret it to much. :)
I always enjoyed your X-100F videos which is where I started with Fuji. Today I have the X-T3 and X-T30!
Congratulations! I made the Canon to Fuji switch on late 2016 and the system just keeps getting better! The T4 is great! 10-24, 16-55, 50-140. Primes will come later for me. 😀
I just wish the 10-24 wasn't so expensive. :)
@@BoorayPerry The 8-16 is even more expensive.
Bought Xi-4 from neighborhood photo store this past weekend. My first SLD was a Pentax ME so I love the nostalgic experience.
That was my first camera too! 😁👍📷
Congrats! I did the same from Canon to Fujifilm 15 months ago. So happy with my X-T3 and 4. I see forward to your videos.
Thanks for watching! :)
A very wise decision. I like shooting Sony full frame. I LOVE shooting with the Fujifilm X100f and also have an X T4 on the way.
just looks like the perfect all-round camera. I cant wait for mine to arrive.
great video!!! i’m from canon too and got the x100v and fell IN LOVE. so now i can’t imagine staying with canon but i’m seeing what happens
How are you liking that Tamron 18-300? It sure looks sexy. :)
Nice to see another Tampa photographer using Fuji for work. Welcome!
ok, i have watched all your videos on the XT4. I have a Nikon D800 and 3 2.8 heavy heavy lenses. Sitting in a drawer for years. Then got a Sony 7 R and a zoom lens. Good but old . and slow!!! READY for a new camera!!!! SO WHAT DO YOU SAY
i have bought xt4,godox xpro,fujifilm xt4 bettery grip,charger,and 2 extra bettery one month before,and fully satisfied
I made the switch from Olympus to an X-T4 last week, looking forward to learning alongside you.
3900$ is a steal. The normal price is 4500$ before taxes. I have also switched to Fuji. the 50-140mm is just fantastic.
Congrats ! I did the same thing with my Nikon gear. Now I'm on XPro-2 and XH-1 which I like very much. Also have 16mm, 35mm and 56mm, from zoom I do have 16-35mm and 50-140mm
They are all very nice and sure I do heve my favorites from the bunch but if I will be complete hones I"m a Little disappointed with 16-35 mm low light performance.
Congrats on the purchase, it’s been a lot time coming and has been interesting hearing your considerations over the past year.
It is easy to feel bad when the top camera youtubers review camera bodies alone that cost 4000$+
I wanted a full frame camera that is good for video (taking good pics was a bonus)
After extensive research (looking 5-10 years ahead like you did and looking a the cost of lenses) I chose the Panasonic Lumix S5
I was looking at the Sony A7 IV 2800 Euro body only and the Sony A7S III 4000 Euro body only.
I found a deal on the Panasonic Lumix S5 for 2000 Euro with the Kit Lens 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 and a Panasonic 35mm f/1.8 included for FREE (both lens cost 1300 Euro if purchased together separately (around 650 Euro each))
A lot of people said Panasonic Auto Focus is bad.
However after research and watching specific Auto Focus videos I realized the Autofocus is OK for my specific needs.
People, research carefully and find what works for you and your budget. And think for the future.
My God! What a show for just a logical switch.
I switched from Nikon D850, to Fuji xt4 last year, I LOVE it
No.. thats not fair choice I ( xt3 owner) would say... canon from fuji you can but not from D850 no way... It's king
Congratulations to a very good choice!🎉
I did almost the same journey coming from Nikon. I got the X100F some years ago and started to notice that I was enjoying shooting with that much more than the Nikon system, so this summer I went with Fuji all the way. Bought the X-T4 and 6 lenses. I totally love this camera and its lenses!😍
I'm been looking at many of your old videos and I'm really looking forward to your upcoming ones now when you're a full-time Fuji shooter. Love your videos!
Keep on shooting!✌😎
Thanks! More on the way 😁
I have used a 5D Mark three for the last four years and I have seriously been considering the switch to Fuji XT series and had this voice in the back of my head telling me that I would not get hired if I switched to an APSC system.
This video "sealed" my decision to go with Fujifilm ecosystem before starting off my photography career. Wise decision. Thanks! You had me subbed.
Thanks! 😁📷
Congratulations! It has never been a better time to switch to Fuji, now we are beginning to see extremely good, relatively cheap 3rd party lenses.
@@boxeriain I'm having some autofocus issued on my xt4, can u give me some tips to improve it please?
@@marimasurashvili2629 have you tried calibrating it?
You bring up very important points! Such a hard decision between the Fujifilm xt4 and canon R6.
Thank you :)
What was your solution?
I'm excited!
Best... Same here canon to fuji switch. Smart switch
Congratulations.. waiting for more videos on your journey with Fujifilm 🙂
People coming from other camera systems, would feel home when they swich to fuji system... saving for my XT-4
I just switched from Nikon d7200. I got tired of carrying around a heavy camera.
Very well said sir..looking forward for the actual shoot from your xt4 and your style and tips in shooting. Thank you.
Yes, which has been my point all along. It's impossible to buy a bad camera anymore and so price is a bigger factor then ever before. :)
Excellent analysis!
Fuji x100v, what a joy! Now considering selling my full frame :-) .
:) Review to come.
right tool for the right job. I live 6 miles from the conowingo damn. any given day there are at least 20 d500's and 800 5/6 parked on the shore.
Lol... Nice to know I could give Santa a nudge 😁
Thanks for watching! 😀
i am glad for you and for myself, because i am curious what you will tell about my beloved camera, the xt4!! congrats you got yourself a new fuji describer!!
Talking about the R5 you also have to take into the account the extreme costly CF Express Cards. The cost you easily another 500 €
I don't understand what makes cf cards so incredibly expensive. SSD (pcie nvme) storage is four times faster than it and costs like 250 for 2TERABYTES instead of 500 dollars for 256GB
also these modern pcie ssds are quite tiny
@@definingslawek4731 same!
Yeah im on the verge of making the same decision. Im still shooting D750 and D610 Heaps and have to make a choice soon.
I was happy with my A73 and got the X100V, got an XT4 and sold A73, sold X100V and got R5.
I got the R5 purely to make up for when ultimate autofocus is absolutely essential.
But my XT4 is with me all day everyday and is my personal project camera.
as far as fuji is concerned protect the highlights. you can cleanly bring up the shadows about 3 stops you can only recover 1 stop of highylights
That's absolutely a consideration
I'm quite excited about it. I know it will be a learning curve after so long with Canon but my time with my X100V should come in handy . :)
Makes sense !!!! Thanks.!!! I switched to Fuji 6 years ago, I´m not a Pro. Great video !!!!
Oh that's exactly the sort of place that I will want to visit 🤣
APC- Has been good enough for years... I sold my FF gear four years ago, also going to Fujifilm XT1 and XT2. No one even noticed I switched systems
:)
not even with depth of field ?
That’s funny, because I had a Nikon D500, which is a crop sensor camera, and it was good enough and more than adequate for the job. I believe it was released in 2016 and to this day, I praise that camera being the absolute best apsc DSLR with stellar specs. If it wasn’t for wanting to switch to mirrorless, I would have stayed with that camera. I think you definitely have a great point on where crop sensor is going. Makes sense saying Fuji doesn’t even sell a full frame. No need if apsc is good enough.
Great honest review of the dilemma. I’ve been flirting with the idea myself.
Thanks for this video!
Thank you for watching! 😁📷
Good decisions, plus the xt-3 and xt-4 are beautiful looking cameras..
Thanks! Ergonomics have always been a problem with Fuji but we'll see if I get used to it. :)
There are several reasons but the most obvious one is that you often cannot get third-party products that work with Pentax.
Rather than crop f2.8
I am wedding photographer,.
Canon is doing just fine but Nikon may be in trouble.
Congrats! That escalated quickly.. heard the podcast earlier today 😄
Lol.. I was holding back on the podcast 🙂
@@BoorayPerry Now we just have to convert Gary 🤫

Thanks so much for whatever info you can send my way.
lol... The glasses are off the rack trifocal readers and the straw is from Amazon. Just look for metal straws. :)
That's a great point😁📷
About time! As I was waiting for this video, I got an ad.....for Canon! Guess the algorithm needs a tweak or two
Great video. I been Fujifilm for few years now. And Fantastic. Quality.
Fujifilm and Blazing Saddles! Great stuff.
It's reassuring to hear someone who has gone through the exact same experience I'm about to go through. Thanks for commenting! 😁
Is this a medium format calculator?!
Thank you for sharing, good point with the “good enough” for full-frame, never thought of it
lol... :)
That's good info, thanks! :)
New lens are out. New 23mmF1.4 is WR. New 50mmF1.0 is also WR.
The only issue is that just as crop sensory as become good enough full frames like my Nikon Z7 45 megapixel is smaller than a Fuji XT4 26 megapixel
And fast pro lenses are as big as each other (just look at the 50mm f1 Fuji), only the slow lenses on crop sensor are smaller
Enjoy the new kit👏🏻🥂
I own a Canon 5d mark II (more than 10 years) and a Fujifilm XT4 (few months) and I still prefer my Canon for the images and the solid, trusty ergonomics. I love the fuji for its portability. I am struggling to accept the switching to fuji but I think I will never sell my Canon.
I also like the Canon grip but I like the controls more on the Fuji.
congrats on your choice! on amazon- order the viltrox 23 and 56 1.4 lenses- both are about $340.
