The Bills DILEMMA: Sean McDermott, JOSH ALLEN and the ******* CHIEFS

- The Bills DO NOT have a 'head coaching problem'. They have a Kansas City Chiefs PROBLEM... along with the rest of the NFL.
Coaches set the FLOOR for a team. Players set the CEILING.
Dan gives his thoughts and perspective why Sean McDermott is NOT to blame another Bills postseason loss against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

32 points were the most the Chiefs scored in any game all season. We have a defensive problem. A big one.
Finally someone with some sense commented on all these Bills v Chiefs podcast. Bills spent on their money on bad trades. Now they have no defense.
Yup and McDermott is supposed to be a defensive guy..
Pretty sure it's the secondary. Opposing receivers are ALWAYS Open. Either that or the secondary is getting flags.
They also didn't have Pacheco and Hollywood Brown all year. They acquired Dhop at the deadline and Kareem Hunt after Pacheco got hurt. They scored 30 a few times. It's not like they were a bad offense. It's not like the Bills defense was great this year and gave up 32 points. They ate 75 million in dead cap. They overachieved this year.
Yes, we have a defensive problem. We need a better secondary and a legit pass rushing threat. But, that’s not really a Sean problem. He is known for getting the most out of no name guys and more than once this season put on a masterclass. It’s a money problem and a draft/scouting/luck problem.
Beane’s early round draft picks need some scrutiny.
@@neil3467 and his giving away salary to washed players, or players not even on the team
The GM position is KC's biggest edge on Buffalo
@@kpwillson 100%
He needs to be fired.
I disagree. McDermott is an alleged defensive guru, and his defense has failed us year after year.
Operative word.. "alleged"
They aren't very talented. Lots of bad first round draft picks
The Bills don't have any superstars on defense, He's making lemonade out of lemons.
Beane hit on Allen and has made a living off of him since. McDermott playing full time nickel, zone, prevent defense (which is what it basically is) and refusing to change since he's has been here is the problem... he's the common denominator. 'Give them underneath and make them drive 15 plays til they make a mistake'. Works great against average to shity QBs but as SOON as you play good ones, like late in playoffs, you lose. THAT'S why we win round 1 every year and have to get lucky after that. If Josh can't score 35+ it's a sure loss. These guy are vampires... sucking the lifeblood from Josh's career. GOD I was wishing we'd have moved to Harbaugh last year. Pete Carol or someone who knows how to do it.
Harbaugh lost to the Chiefs twice this year and Pete has not beaten the Chiefs in the Mahomes era😎
Don’t forget about the Von Miller signing that has crushed us financially.
Dan, completely disagree. It is a coaching problem.
Sure, he did tell Joe Brady to sit James Cook, but he could have told him to put him in. the fact he didn’t touch the ball the last 9 minutes of the game is absurd.
Beane has a lot of blame as well. he’s 0-2 in the last 2 major drafts. we traded with KC and gave them Worthy (that went well). I’m tired of “high character” guys. go get a playmaker who might have an off field issue or two. we are wasting Josh Allen with McDermott. he coaches small in big moments. tired of the excuses, Dan.
@PuertoRicanBoi127 What coach are you going to get who will outcoach Andy Reid and beat Mahomes in the playoffs? Or, do you think they should make a change to make a change?
Absolutely I would disagree with McDermott not having any playoff duds. I'd say getting blown out by Cincy at home in the divisional is a dud. As is finally hosting the Chiefs at Highmark and losing. How many times can we look at big losses, acknowledge the poor coaching decisions that happen and then just move on to next year because Derm is so respected. I like him. I think he has a real skill set at changing a team's culture. That's not easy. There are probably a few teams that would look to him to turn around their team. But I think this current group of guys aren't getting anything from their HC at this point. The biggest difference between the Chiefs and Bills isn't Mahomes. Josh is just as good. I'd give the edge to the Chiefs in terms of skill positions and the defense but it's by a hair. The biggest difference is Andy Reid. And Spags. Who are giants towering over McDermott at this point. The best improvement for the Bills to challenge the Chiefs is a change at HC. That's where the biggest discrepancy is.
Agree on playmakers. We need them on defense and on offense. I would say we resign Cooper to a small deal. He had impact even if he didn't show on the stat sheet. I would love if we got Tee Higgins as well.
That's right. We need one of those coaches that consistently beats the Chiefs in the playo..... oh.....wait....
@@jdeljones 2 questions 1st is who you gonna get if you fire McDermott 2 I missed it what other teams and coaches are beating andi Reid answer nobody so I guess you think those coaches need to be fired also
I have said before and I will say it again Brandon beane please for the love of god get some speed on this team offense and defense
he won’t. they had worthy and Ladd in front of them, and instead they traded back for Keon the snail.
Brian Thomas Jr. was our future, and Beane was a coward because he wouldn’t give up the 2nd to philly.
@ I’m beginning to think beane just hates speedy players but we definitely need speed on both sides of the ball and I just don’t understand how beane and the rest of the coaching staff just doesn’t see that
@@PuertoRicanBoi127 Brian Thomas would have been a season-changing pick, for sure. Instead we have Keon and Cole. I mean, those two might develop into something, but Brian had an immediate impact on a terrible team. Imagine his abilities on this offense.
@@frederickduncan2884Have you never heard him at the combine talking about. “I hope this guy runs slower so maybe he slides to us”. They can’t evaluate Wr good enough.
Best WR draft in NFL history last year and we took the slowest WR in the draft class
So the fact that Sean is a defensive minded coach and the defense is the worse part of the team in the playoffs had nothing to do with Sean? #FireSean
We have a GM problem. Good, not great
Beane came from the Panthers and the Bills mirror the Panthers without Josh.
For whatever reason Sean McDermott’s players do NOT execute when it really matters - repeatedly! KC’s do. Who's responsible for that if not the coaches and front office?
Continuing to praise failure is going to continue to cost the Bills success… Sorry once someone has shown you who they are you need to believe them. 🤷🏼
Horrible playoffs head coach. This is beyond evident.
Beane has repeatedly missed on his top draft pix outside Josh, what makes you think that will change?
He has hit good players in later rounds but has missed 6 out of 7 on his first pick of the draft and his only A player is Josh. A couple Bs in Dawkins and Cook and a whole lot of Cs and below
@@JoshuaKnapp-zw6ep Agree.
Great question Beane is lacks drafting acumen
@@JoshuaKnapp-zw6epthe most impactful player of the last draft class in that game was Xavier Worthy by far. The bills literally handed him to the Chiefs
Not to mention the Von Miller signing which absolutely crushed us financially
Play calls on the last drive showed no faith. Joe Brady played afraid. Im still not over this!
They got outcoached and outplayed. Didn’t seem like there was any energy whatsoever on this team. Then you see Dion Dawkins chumming it up with Chris jones during the game. Wtf!
@dalebechtel8904 wasn't a good look on Dawkins at all. We're all devastated, and he's laughing with him right after the game.
It comes down to the HC to put his foot down, ask his OC what the hell he's doing and override his OC not putting his best guys on the field in the game at crucial moments. There is no reason that James Cook shouldn't have gotten multiple touches on that last drive in the most important drive on the season.
Not only that, why on earth did we go for it on 2 separate occasions, when McDermott is KNOWN for taking the points.
The Bills don't have a head coaching problem; they have a coming-out-listless-for-the-AFC-Championship-Game-against-the-Chiefs problem. Gee, I wonder who's to blame?
They were more hyped to beat Baltimore
It's because they were at home vs the Ravens. They get nervous playing at Arrowhead at this point
“Sean’s never had one of those duds in the postseason” if 13 seconds isn’t a dud I truly don’t know what is.
Seriously. Biggest coaching malpractice of all time. 3 separate mistakes in that 13 second period.
This last game, the Chiefs out, coached us up and down the field. They had answers for everything. We had amwears for nothing. All their receivers were open. All of ours were covered. No rush push adjustments. I could do on and on
We need NOT be ok with losing 😢😢😢
No, the people in this City celebrate losing unlike any other place on Earth!
What else can we do? Its all we know because we never win the superbowl 😞
Sports are win or lose. It's not a participation trophy event. Fans/people need to learn HOW to lose as well as how to win.
@@lbennhtx6072 We can stop kissing the rear-ends of the team's brain-trust and demand they do a better job. Maybe then they and the owner who pays the bills will step up and do what it takes to win it all instead of constantly bargin shopping for talent!
If you work for the Bills organization sure... But I'm a fan on the couch. So I like watching a winning team and if they lose tbh I just go about my life like normal. People need to get a grip. You're not a player
Bills fans can always be proud of their Legendary Buffalo Wings.
Chicken wings. Or wings. They are not called Buffalo wins. A few buffalo restaurants caved to the "buffalo wins" marketing gimmick, but they are not buffalo wings
Dan, this was your magnum opus. Smartest you have ever sounded on camera. Well done
Let's not get ridiculous. 😂
Just want to say, in an absolute sea of comments disagreeing with us, that I completely agree with this.
Dan cooked in this one.
As a Chiefs fan I can tell you the real issue is adjusting on the fly. Plays that work in the first should not work in the second half.
Agree - Buffalo started out playing man on defense and even after if wasn’t working AND Christian Benford went down STILL kept playing man. Kaiir Elam, Rasul Douglas, Damar Hamlin could not keep up the the Chiefs faster players like Xavier Worthy. The result - Patrick Mahomes had the highest drop back success rate of his entire career.
Such as all those QB sneaks
@MarinosLegacy Bro, Niners fans say the same thing. Rams fans say the same thing. Bengals fans can't stand Zac Taylor. Steelers fans want to dump Tomlin. Good luck finding that coach to beat Andy Reid and Mahomes in the playoffs
The Bills got stops in the 4th quarter tho
@@kpwillsonThat is true - I wonder if they started playing some zone defense - I need to watch the coaches film
I'm so tired of the "30 other teams" point. 30 other teams don't have Josh Allen. Mahomes' 4 best playoff games since 2020 are all against the Bills and their Defensive Coach.
I think McDermott is a great coach, but i wouldn’t be against moving on for 2 reasons
1 it feels like this team could use a Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr type of elevation.. much like the warriors with Jackson, McDermott has taken them deep in the playoffs but a new voice could help them get over the hump.
2 I think the idea of losing another OC when Joe Brady inevitably gets a shot at being a head coach and having to try to find a new guy to call plays and have to have josh learn a new offense again, I think just having your offensive play caller be your head coach can help with longevity of offensive success around Allen
If you’re just gonna run it back again for the 6th year in a row, why would anyone believe it’s going to be any different?
Another example the Celtics going from a great coach in Brad Stevens, to Joe Muzzulla. I think Brad Stevens is a better coach in a vacuum to Muzzulla. But the new voice helped the C’s get to another level
The Bills defense kept them in contention. Josh Allen had the ball with 3:45 on the clock along with all 3 time-outs, it was his time to "shine" he failed, that had nothing to do with the defense. You mentioned Lamar Jackson, he was in the same exact situation Josh Allen was in , down by 8 he drove the Ravens down for a touchdown Mark Andrews dropped the two-point conversion he would normally make 99 times out of 100. All you ask for as a player is a "golden moment" that moment to win the game. I cant speak on what happened in 2021 with 13 seconds on the clock , but that game this pass Sunday, im sorry Josh clearly (failed)
I also wanted to point out the play on 3rd down, the screen to cooper was the perfect play call. It was an all out blitz and if cooper didn't slip 56 would not have caught him from behind. He would have been off and running because there was no one there! The fact that he slipped when catching the ball is as excruciating as kincaid not catching the ball. But alas we have to keep on keeping on.
terrible protection, and bad play call to the wrong player.
Imagine if that screen was to Brian Thomas, Worthy or Ladd?
@@PuertoRicanBoi127 they ran the play perfectly and beat an all out blitz. If Cooper doesn't slip and ends up scoring the chiefs fans would be asking why they sent an all out blitz on third down. But Cooper slipped. Your statement makes zero sense.
56 is George Karlaftis, a draft pick the Chiefs hit on. He was a productive, smart, big playmaker in college and it translated to the NFL. Tape shows he rushed, the screen pass got past him, then he turned around and chased Amari down from behind for an ankle tackle. Watch the replay, Cooper is stunned, 56 was supposed to be gone already from the screen. Would Karlaftis start for the Bills? Heck yea he would.
How many more years should the Front Office and Head coach have to address this????? The roster has gotten worse the draft has been poor... the team has 1 superstar!!!! If the objective is to get to the Playoffs, then all is OK!!!
In team sports if the team wins it is the players.... if the team keeps loosing!!!!! Whose fault is it? Who chose the players, the coordinators.... who makes the game strategy/plan? Who makes the game decisions????
McDermott and Brandon Beane need to be in the hot seat…. Both have let this team down several times recently… wonder if everyone still thinks letting the chiefs have Xavier worthy was a good idea??? Called it that night, that would come back to haunt us, and it did….just like the mahomes trade…. Absolutely screwing ourselves and giving our arch rivals huge advantages. How many years do they get til we expect more of ourselves?
Beane wasnt part of the BIlls during the Mahomes draft trade my dude.
I wonder how much sleep plays a factor going into these big games…. Josh was rattled from the start and seemed way off his game. I work as a videographer, and whenever I have a super important shoot in the morning I find it impossible to fall asleep and then I end up going into work exhausted and not performing my best. I’d have to imagine that’s 1,000,000x worse for a QB going into the biggest game of his career with all of the pressure and “what ifs” going through his head. We forget that these players and coaches are human with all the same flaws as us.
James C needs 20+ touches per game.
Cooks needs to be an MVP candidate! 20 carries, 5 passes per. He was THE best player on the Bills offense Sunday! He even outplayed the great Josh Allen
30 carries on Sunday and we would have won by 10. Not good play calling
Excellent perspective. Needed to remove the heart and think with your head. McDermott is a GREAT coach. Allen is a generational QB. They made it to 1 step away from the SB. They exceeded ALL expectations. Thanks Dan for the logic. ❤
Draft defense, new db coach!
If you ok with moral wins, ok
@SuperiorAllah Moral wins? They own the division and have made 2 AFC championship games while getting to the divisional round every year since 2020. Bills ate 75 million in dead cap this year and overachieved. Good luck finding a head coach that will outcoach Andy Reid in the playoffs and stop Mahomes
I’m not calling for McDermott’s head, but it’s all about the coaching. The chiefs coaches definitely out smarted our coaches plain in simple there the better poker players and play ed there cards at the perfect moments. 4 qb sneaks and two failed two point conversions is unacceptable.
They out smart every other coach in the NFL, McDermott is no exception and Josh is the second best QB in the league but he’s not PM in crunch time, nobody is🤗
We can't expect that what works in regular season against everyone else will work against these Cheifs, until we recognize this, they will continue to send us home in the post season.
@@Blakee598
Thank you! That's the sweet spot there, nailed it
We need speed on offense and defense.
Not having your best weapon on offense other than Josh on the field when your season is on the line …. Is not justified by saying hind sight is 20/20… Cook needs to be on the field regardless of what they did all season with him. You say it’s not a Sean McDermott decision but it should be! And I’d want an OC to recognize this on his own ! Cmon now
James Cook should become the focal point of this offense, period!
We say Spags is a great coach. What Spags did was studied the Bills/Josh tendencies and prepared his team to stop or hurry those plays.. the tush push or whatever. Here's the thing about that 4th down play that ended the game, Spags KNEW that EVERY TIME Josh leaves the pocket, he scrambles to his right. Spags sends a blitz from the left side of the D KNOWING that Josh would be there and he fell into the trap. TOO EASY! McD has no clue as to how to stop or slow down the Chiefs in the playoffs!! I don't want to hear about no CEO crap. Sean was DC on a SB team. THIS IS HIS DEFENSE, not Babich's or Frazier's
Buffalo has a defensive minded coach and the defense is the weakness on this team every year since the 13 seconds battle. This year’s draft and free agency for the love of God get one burner who can catch and put the rest of the chips in the defense
It is absolutely incredible how many crazy close one play losses we have had to the Chiefs.
I'm glad to hear your opinion Dan!
Dan on many things you are wrong on this one. The biggest one is comparing mahomes to Jordan. Jordan was great player and won games without Phil. That’s more of a trait of Allen. Allen playing for Reid would destroy the nfl. Second, Sean is a great coach but he is not creative on the playoffs. Joe Brady gets a pass because he made us consistent but his mistake was not establishing the run early which he did on every game this year. The moment was too big for him, but I do believe he will de better in the future. As for Sean, all my respect, but he can’t beat Andy Reid. We need a change.
I will say, Jordan was physically talented and mentally tough
Have you looked at the stats on our defense with our defensive minded head coach, last 5years something needs to change
This is an L take,The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. We finish another season with the same issues as previous. These type of losses are taking a psychological toll on our players, the organization and the fan base
I’m thinking it’s not just Beane making the decisions on who to draft or trade. It’s all the coaches. McDermott and others.
Your rant at the end was all you had to say. Say that to Beane next time you guys are at Mike's house. No more Iowa top sack guy. Go get Georgia 2nd string top guy
As a head coach Sean McDermott should say “put James cook on the field” “ the tush push isn’t working, do something else”
It worked, they made the first downs but the refs blew the spot. Kincaid also had a first down and Worthy didn't make the catch, the replay doesn't lie but the refs do.
Bills did not play good. Thedb stink. The coaching was poor. It seems there were no chances made in the 2nd half.
Look even in the season the coach play calling is poor especially in the red zone
I appreciate Dan perspective but I still think it’s a coach’s problem.
What does Coach McDermott do then? I’m told he’s a defensive coach, but the Chiefs scored 32 on us after not scoring 30 all year… what am I missing folks?
Their top CB went down very early and Bobby calls the defense, not McDermott. They picked on Elam and a rookie safety I think has a lot of potential.
then Sean should’ve stepped in to assist in the adjustments. zero excuses.
@ MightyMouzMoto I know Elam coming in was a huge part of the problem, but this is a yearly pattern with the Bills defense in the playoffs that can’t be ignored. McDermott is responsible for game planning defensively and he just can’t seem to come up with anything for the Chiefs. The Ravens held them to 17 last year, the Texans held them below 30 this year. They won’t score 32 on the Eagles I promise you. The Bills defense has been Barbecued Chicken for Mahomes every year in the playoffs and it’s just unacceptable when you have a “defensive coach”
@oblivionpro69 Babich is the DC. It stinks but it's what happened. I know it's only Babich's first yr as DC, but he learned from McDermott, and I would like to see an outside DC. And I'm sure Brady would like a lot of those plays he called back.
@PuertoRicanBoi127 And that would've helped Elam and Bishop get to the ball, including on plays Rousseau said he had never seen on film? It's not an excuse, it's what happened. And still, if not for them getting absolutely robbed by the refs and/or Kincaid catching that ball, we're prob making SB plans right now!
You can’t say Sean has not had duds… 13 secs is a dud , game again cincy was a dud, his defense averages giving up like 33-35 points per game In the playoffs. I don’t want him gone either but you are being a tad too kind to him
Nick Saban said it best... Nobody wants the team to win more than the players and coaches. Calm down.
In my opinion, in addition to changes and hiring, important psychological work will be necessary. It is very hard to lose in those ways so many times, that leaves its mark and that also plays a role when you are in the same situation. It is not so obvious that tactical and physical preparation is enough, the emotional state counts a lot. The team is traumatized, as are the fans. While the other team declared that they were going to win, ours was reduced to saying that they were not afraid of losing. In the end that happened. In truth, the psychological dimension is fundamental and I don't know if this is being worked on as it deserves. Nobody talks about it.
You made some really good points in this video. I only have two observations to add. First, I have been watching football for nearly 60 years and the Chiefs are by far the best team at winning 50/50 games that I have ever seen. This is not just against the Bills but you have also seen it in their Super Bowl victories. I can remember two instances historically where teams had a roadblock stopping them from making the Super Bowl. The Raiders could not get past the Steelers in the 70s (including the Immaculate reception) and finally broke through in 1976 when Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier both missed the Championship game and had to rely on Reggie Harrison in that game. The Packers could not get past the Cowboys in the 90s and finally broke through in 1996 when the Panthers knocked off the Cowboys in the divisional round.
Coaching! He cannot win the biggest playoff games. You lose in 13 seconds that should have ended his coaching in Buffalo. Let’s look at out great coaching legacy….Wide Right, Touchdown Throwback, SB 2,3,4, 13 seconds, Wide Right 2 and now you can add KC #4 the TushPush laugher. Coaching coaching and more coaching. Let’s look at leaving points off the board! You NEVER leave points off the board especially in the playoffs. If you can’t get a first down on a 4th and inches, that’s coaching.
This was much better than your partners today. Nice work. Proud of all involved
Great Podcast Mike ! Thanks for your take on this loss, it was from your heart ❤ This Bills Mafia gal appreciates that !!! Go Bills!
Brady certainly didn’t show his readiness to be an NFL head coach.
We have a player problem and BBB is the reason for that issue. Elam is not him, so why was he still on the team & not a veteran..1 of his plays was highlighted today on the Pat Mac show.. Draft's need to hit or be moved.
As long as McDermott will be the HC the Bills will not win à SB ! Yes he did great things but has reached its ceiling. Why he didn't challengeed some call last sunday?! Also the offense need to be more creative stop with the friggin tush push they got great rb's. Anyway Go Bills !
I appreciate the principal-teacher analogy. That is a great perspective and way to think about how the coaches and coordinators are positioned in relation to the players. As always, I’m appreciative of the content. Go Bills.
A few points: The Bill's were ranked 28 of the 32 teams in 3rd down defense in the secondary, and bottom 10 in the league on 3rd down as an entire defensive unit. Historically; and this goes back to the 1970's; the Bills relied on a bend don't break / prevent D on 3rd down; and it routinely found a way to break down in nearly every key moment of Bills history. Second; in this game;, the mis-spot on 4th down would have been avoided had the coaching staff been paying attention to the bad spot of Kincad's catch on 2nd down; it was without question a 1st down.... but the ref ruled his knee down; replay proved otherwise. Whoever was in charge of monitoring plays, should be held accountable. Likewise, Kincad gave a "weak" argumentative response to the ref when he got up off the turf that he had got the 1st down... he should have been more deliberate with the ref, and motioned to the sideline for a replay. Third; McD is terrible when it comes to giving the ref an earful. I doubt he has ever drawn a flag for mouthing off to the ref; he'll never learn that there are times when getting vocal and putting the officials on notice is necessary. Last; and I've not seen this point ever made on this game or other games involving charity to KC.... just once, on a reviewable call, I'd like to see the on field call go in favor of KC's opponent. Let KC throw the challenge flag, with the hope of it being overturned. It was obvious that both Kincad and Allen both had the 1st down. A lot of blatant non-calls (holding on punt return; hands to face ripping off a Bills players helmet) right in front of the refs. I have a feeling that if KC and Buff swapped QB's; the Bills would have lost by a large margin.
Yea Dan that chiefs problem take is a cop out, when a good team gets strategic calls that no other teams get at crucial moments is a BIG reason why they are in this position. And yes Mcdermott keeps coming short with D planning in key moments.
McDermott is not the answer
Couch coach!!
We need more speed on defense in backfield
They didn't do what they had done all year, run the ball down your opponents throats. 43 rush yards by halftime and 20 passes. That's exactly why the ravens lost last year, not sticking with what got them there. Unbalanced offense led to them losing.
I think if Christian Benford did not get hurt it would have been a different game.
Its been how many consecutive yrs in a row that McDermott has been out coached when it really matters🤔has he gotten us into the playoffs, YES, but seems he cant get past the top teams in the championship games. Thats sad 😢how many more yrs do we give him🤔Josh isn't getting any younger. Go bills
What’s the team’s floor without Josh Allen and then what’s the floor without McDermott?
Cook was the difference maker and we pulled them off the field when it was working they had no answer. So yes coaching.
10:09 exactly - they were predicable. We didn’t have the few off script plays we needed. Coaching issue. Think interviewing played any role in it with Brady?
I love the videos guys. Dan, your clip of Josh is missing from the upload.
Well said. I also like the 90s Bulls comparison to what is going on in KC.
Beane problem??
Your analogy is right on, as is your comment about Andy Reid clock management. I'm a Buffalo native living in KC. Before Mahomes, KC fans were ready to run Reid out of town over his clock management. The local narrative was generally, "Oh, now we understand why Philly gave him the boot." The best head coaches know how to ask for help and hire good assistant coaches.
This is the first time I had to flip the channel
But also you're limiting your perspective to think that we just can't best the Chiefs, ever since 13 seconds The bills are struggled to beat everyone in the playoffs, You forget that 2 or 3 years ago Cincinnati was prepping for the championship game at halftime, hell during borough's time with the Bengals we've never beaten them. How we barely could beat the dolphins with a third string quarterback, how Baltimore could have very easily beat us last week if they didn't stop running the ball. Even in the regular season the Vikings game a few years ago, eagles game, the bucks OT game. During McDermott's reign when a game has a big fight feel and it's back and forth and something's got to give McDermott's team is usually the one that gives. But as I stated I do agree he did not cause this loss and I'm good with rolling with him for one more year but if he can't get it done after next year something's got to give.
For the playoffs, the Chiefs have a new play book, both offense and defense. None of this stuff is committed to film during the regular season. They treat the regular season almost as a pre-season, to fix problems, train up rookies, plug holes in the lineup, stay healthy. They don't play for stats. They play for wins.
So what happens next year if this happens again? Do we continue to just keep losing to this team. There is no promise we get back to this point. 32
Points is not good enough on defense when the chiefs didn’t score 32 points on the Panthers.
Very thoughtful analysis. What makes the Chiefs an elite team is that they are able to figure out solutions to problems (e.g. the tush push) that no other team is able to do. They obviously studied the film and figured out a way to stop that play.
The fact is that the Bills won so many games this year because they had great coaching. Josh was able to get a lot out of a mediocre group of receivers. They need to upgrade their receiving core.
They also need better scouting. Their 1st round draft choices (Elam, Kincaid, Coleman) have not and will likely not become elite players. They needed Xavier Worthy on Sunday night. They needed his speed, his hands, his ability to separate. They could have drafted him but they took a pass. Why?
I am very disappointed that they lost to the Chiefs. Hopefully they will improve their scouting, upgrade their team, recruit an extra corner back and beat the Chiefs in 2026. Go Bills!
Did you watch film of Kincaid coming out of college? It's a reason he went in the 1st. I agree, Beane has missed on a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders. What baffles me is that Beane was McD's referral. There's no reason the drafting (early rounds) should be so bad. McD says these are the players I need and he should be able to sign off on a player. Think about this, Andy Reid plays his rookies from day one. When he drafts them, he has a plan for them. McDermott has most rooks, except Josh, sit for 1 to 2 yrs. I don't like that about McD and I think it crushed Elam's confidence. Baltimore repositioned Hamilton. Try Elam @ safety.
Well done, Dan. You gave another perspective on the team. I hope the front office figures out and makes the changes they need. GO Bills.
Never give up and NEVER EVER GIVE IN! ❤❤❤❤❤
I am a Chiefs fan, and the Bills and Allen are my next favourite team. I remember the time the Chiefs Kingdom donated to Allens Hospital Charity. It just shows the mutual admiration between the two fan bases and teams. So the way I see it, these lossess are like the fire that tempers and purifies iron into steel. With Allen as your QB, the Bills time will come.
People need to realize that if you fire McD, The variable that replaces him could be a winner right away BUT could also start a cycle of losers again.
With josh, you have a baseline, disagree, we need an offensive coach
@cannafarmer WE have Brady as OC . MCDERMOTT have 5 title division
The offense was the issue to you? Thats weird. not making stops on D and a handful of officiating blunders are the things that separated us in that game.. maybe a small lack of running to start the game.
I love name for sean. Micky d
We're a loser franchise already. It can't get any worse. As long as we have #17. Somebody's needs to get fired.
Huge thumbs up Dan! Couldn’t agree with you more. Just like three of the four bills Super Bowl teams from the 90s, Josh Allen‘s bills are running into generationally good teams in the Chiefs just like the one year wonder Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys dynasty ask the San Francisco 49ers if they have chiefs problem, or the Philadelphia Eagles. If All the teams that have a Chiefs problem we seem to get more wins against them and closer to beating them than anyone else. that is a credit to the coaches and players, not a detriment
Great take ! Nice job
Dan, YOU ARE SPOT ON!!!
He hasn’t beaten the chiefs in the playoffs
It. Hurts.
Great take Dan.
Go Bills!!
Good takes, especially about the difference makers. Well rounded teams & players can get you far, but the difference makers are the ones that win the games that need to make "an extra play or two".
While I still have some reservations about McDermott, I think those hating on him should consider this. His 2nd half defensive adjustments (how much of that is him and how much is Babich is unknown) were outstanding all season long, and they were again in the championship game. He's game planning against one of the greatest offensive minds ever in Andy Reid. KC moved the ball at will in the first half. But the Bill's D clamped down on them in the 2nd half and gave themselves a chance to win. The Bill's offense came up short after their D held KC to 3 points at the end. That's not on McDermott.
Very wise words Dan. As a PROUD UK fan where coverage of the NFL is sparse I was somewhat sparse I was amazed and pretty disappointed with a lot of the online comments after the game from so called fans. A lot were vitriolic and some almost hateful. It is at the end of the day only a game of football, a sport where at the end of the day only one team can win so fans should be prepared for one team to lose. In a so called transition year the Bills have out performed all expectations and all fans should be thankful that this team is only going to get better especially if we strengthen the defence in the draft. The Bills have by far the best fans in the NFL, more like UK football (soccer) fans. That's why 39 years I chose the Bills. be patient and get behind your team .... but in a nice way!
Josh improved a lot this year. I can see us bringing in another weapon on offense and that being a difference maker
Bro, there is No Freeking Way this Loss is on Sean McDermott, I think Sean is an absolute top 10 coach in the NFL, maybe even a Top 5 Coach in the NFL right now
Putting it on the offense saying we had the ball in hand to win it just disregards everything that happened prior. The offense never should have been in that position after putting 28 points up on a team who averaged 22 all season. The defence failed us again. Having a defensive head coach is pointless if the defence is going to fail time and time again. Sure MCD has done great considering the injuries in previous season....he doesn't have those excuses this time.
Ohhh and also, when the chiefs GM calls bean during the draft..... hang up the f******* phone 📱 🙏 😤
Agree with darn near all of that, Dan. Great assessment, imo. People who want McD fired....for who? Thats all i ask. Spags out coached Brady that day. And, although i am not giving him a pass because the D was not good all season, Babich was a bit handcuffed with injuries in the D backfield.. And we were literally 2:00 away from a SuperBowl.
Josh had the chance to come back with 2.00 plus ➕️ we had our shot. Facts. Chief problems.
You are dead on Dan. As a Chief fan I can assure you there is no team that Kanas City fans respect more than the Buffalo Bills. I know there will come a time that we will lose to the better team on that day and when it happens I will be cheering Josh as he hoist that trophy . You guys are so close .
We have more cap room this year though so hopefully we can get another receiver or two, some pressure the opposing QB and to beef up our secondary. It's our depth that is hurting. When one of our guys gets hurt, the drop-off is pretty steep sometimes.
Painful to type this, Dan is right. lol not that painful, just playing around. Well said. Very detailed and it really is simple - it's the Chiefs. The Bills are still the only AFC team to give them a challenge. People saying McDermott is the problem will never offer a realistic better option to come right back and still be a #2 team in the AFC. The Chiefs have Mahomes, Reid, and Spags. They're a dynasty.
Thanks for hopefully changing people's coach bashing.
It’s funny that the thumbnail for this photo shows arrows for “expectations” and “reality” pointing in different directions insinuating that the Bills’ had higher expectations than they achieved when they actually overachieved compared to what almost everyone expected five months ago.
Didn't we just get rid of the number 1 receiver? Now we need to go out and get one? I don't think anything is wrong with everybody eats. It's just that we need a little more speed at wide out and then pass rushers that can get home. We need a more stout defense in general, that's easy to see
245 TO 240 THEN THE LITTLE THINGS DO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!! SO IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE THINGS THEN THE BIG THINGS WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES!!! WE STILL NEED TO WORK ON THE LITTLE THINGS!!
Beane should've been fired the day after he traded with the chiefs in the draft...dude is terrible at drafting and has sabotaged the roster in the draft and free agency...mcd is NOT the problem...
