I know, I know. I'm back in my provocative title bag. 🔥
But I promise I have some very thoughtful and poignant ideas to back it up.
Do fragrances do things "for" you?
Are they products with guaranteed "features" ?
We will examine these questions and more in this brief, critical video.
    I hope you enjoy.

Justin is one of the very very few people in this community that I trust. He doesn't BS people like so many do. So many of the larger channels have gone down the baloney route for success. He's one of the very few channels that still gives this fragrance community a dose of reality and truth.

Perfect. A fragrance is for the wearer. I'm only trying to impress myself without offending others. I spray myself when I'm home alone, because the smell is for ME. It's a plus if others like it, but I don't need their approval. When my GF is around, I will choose something that we both like. But she so far has loved everything I wear.

Man this truth hits hard! Starting out in the fragrance world I bought too many fragrances that I didn’t really enjoy because someone on TH-cam said they were complement magnets. Imagine my surprise when I felt let down when a) nobody said anything about what I was wearing and b) I didn’t really enjoy them myself (Sauvage EDP, The One EDP, BDC EDP etc). Much happier now wearing what I enjoy and when the compliments do happen it is merely a bonus. Thanks for keeping it real.

    You are absolutely correct.
On a side note, most reviewers present fragrances like they are some kind of a magic potion that will easily fulfill a certain task. Disregarding that it will entirely depend on the person and his personality to fulfill that task and that fragrance will only be the icing on the cake.
I subscribed to you because you are different and refuse to support the hyped up fragrances. Not only that, but also I found that your content is of high quality outside the fragrance world as much as inside of it.

This is an incredible video; I absolutely love the honest perspective, and willingness to communicate that it really doesn't matter if other people compliment you, as long as you're comfortable with yourself. Smelling "good" is extremely subjective, and at the end of the day, you're the only person you should be trying to impress. Buy fragrances (and all other accessories) for yourself, and if other people like them/let you know they enjoy them, that's just a bonus for the day. Thank you for the content, Justin!

Man I love that this perspective is being shared on here. A pet peeve of mine is reading fragrance reviews that go:
“this scent is amazing, it’s everything I want in a fragrance but it just doesn’t project enough. 5/10.”
(Just saw a fragrantica review of Mind Games Blockade pretty much identical to this)
I read these and I feel disappointed. If you require beast mode performance, I can’t help but think that you’re missing out on some incredible fragrance experiences. But to each their own I guess.

From my experience a lot of fragrances that I have have never been reviewed on TH-cam or least I haven’t seen them but they get me a lot of compliments. I never wear for feedback I wear them cause I absolutely love the smell and it mixes well with my skin which also smells good 😎🤣 seriously I feel what you saying bro they present these fragrances like compliments are a guarantee and that’s just not the case.

this might be one of your best videos you've released so far. I have an incredible collection of perfumes, many people have smelled the perfumes I wear, everyone has had a different approach. Sometimes, when I wanted to get a compliment on perfumes like: Leyton, Sauvage Elixir, Mancera Cedrat Boise, YSL Perfume, Blue Channel Perfume, Sauvage Perfume, Prada l'homme, Acqua Di Parma Oud and I get 0 compliments. But I feel good that day. Let's be clear, all these perfumes I listed brought me compliments, but the point is that we wear perfumes for our noses, not for someone else's. There will be days when you won't get compliments, and sometimes you will, everything is individual, but the point is that you like what you wear.

There are some Justin's videos that'll help them as they helped me. To know what I'm looking in a fragrance, expectations and ultimately - choice. Mostly gathering my thoughts and desires.

Great video, and I fully agree - nobody can tell you which is a good or bad fragrance. Just one observation, you said Percival is synthetic, yet the ingredients say otherwise. Aaron Terence Hughes also described it as “jam-packed full of naturals” in his review. Just curious what makes it smell synthetic to you?

    • @stayfreshproductions
      @stayfreshproductions  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you. While Percival might contain natural ingredients, its scent personality doesn’t smell natural to me. That’s not to say it smells harsh or badly-composed-it as a whole just doesn’t remind me of anything in the natural world outside of men’s shower gel. Nothing wrong with that-still smells good.

My message to you, the reader of this comment: You are special but maybe still not the best/better version of yourself, yet. A fragrance will not help you to become that person. You are more than that. Don't be shallow, be as special and unique as you are - and keep on evolving.

Can you do a Video about Training your nose for fragrance Ingredients?
More of Systematic approach then „Collect“ one or two of every category and get used to it?
    That would be Great.
I asked the same at parfumo and just Nobody „Trained“ it was Kind of try and error and Trust what the companies Tell Whats Inside the bottle…
I get suggestions Like Buy Parfume oils of every Kind.
There are Workshops outside how to Build a fragrance…maybe that…
    But no systematic approach.
Parfumeurs have to learn this at Colleges so There Must be Books and guidelines for this.

Fragrances are an accessory like piercings and hats. Do you absolutely need to wear them to function in daily life? No. But do they add an extra aspect to an already well-established persona? Definitely.
Don't follow the hype unless you have experience with it yourself and have made up your own mind about it; you'll find more often than not you'll be more satisfied and be disappointed way less often that way, and I'm not just talking about fragrances.
Wear what you like, and like what you wear.

Fragrances are self expression, you shouldn’t care bout others and their compliments, it should put a smile on your face when you put it on. I’m so tired of vids with titles along the lines of “10 fragrances that will guarantee to get you compliments (from women)!”

Justin is dropping truth bombs. A fragrance is one piece of the puzzle. You could wear the best, most incredible smelling cologne ever made. However...if you're 5'10" 335 lbs wearing flip flops, basketball shorts, a 6x Fat Bassturd t shirt with a cat on the front.....just go home.
The world is full of what I call "The Dude Bros" Flip flops, cargo shorts, some logo t-shirt, and of course the staple of the Dude Bros.....the backwards ball cap. What are you......12???

I disagree a bit with the title of this video. While a fragrance can't guarantee you more sex or greater popularity, it can affect your mentality. Wearing a scent that you really like can boost your mood and make you more confident. So, I agree with the "if you love it" part of your message.

    • @stayfreshproductions

Fragrances can indeed do things TO you (affect your mood, confidence, etc). But they cannot necessarily do things FOR you (affect the people in your environment in ways favorable to you).

I use my fragrances for personal pleasure. A comment is nice, but I like the scents, and I like to smell good.

I do disagree with some of this content though. I do think that longevity and mass appeal i.e more compliments are factual. Some fragrances last longer and get more compliments and that's factual. Now whether you like and decide to buy them is subjective but to say that it's not quantifiable is wrong in my opinion

It may be true that a Dior homme intense will get you more compliments than a masque Milano fragrance. But that’s not what he said, he was talking about how compliments are not in your control. It’s a very silly thing that influencers promise compliments regarding a scent

I don't think it's silly to say that certain fragrances guarantee compliments or are more likely to than others. It's not a perspective to say that. Some of my fragrances don't get too many compliments and others do. That's not perspective thats experience wearing them. It's not that important for me but for some, compliments are something they look for for various reasons .

It’s the fact that some people try to quantify them as “features” that is sad to me. If you get good performance and compliments from a fragrance, I never said that’s a bad thing. They’re just byproducts.

I guess I think a complement puller can be a feature in a fragrance. But let's be fair your knowledge is more than mine. I think you have awesome content and one of my faves in this space.

    Speaking of redundancy.
This video made most fragrance and self help videos redundant in one fell swoop. 🤣
