Pleased to hear that a cricketer took part, as cricket is my favourite sport. Tony Greig, a veritable giant all-rounder, now alas no more. I was just four at the time and Play School age. Too young to remember this!
Brian Hooper who was British pole vault champion came to our school in 1984 on a project to raise funds for the GB Olympics team. You got your photo taken with him. He was a character. He certainly liked the attention from one section of pupils. Our school was spread over two separate locations and the other part of the school got gymnast Suzanne Dando. I was gutted!
Never seen this before but I enjoyed watching it.,. John conteh was a very good physical specimen and he was a good looking guy too....sobering to think 🤔 that David vine Ron Pickering Colin bell and Tony greig have all passed away.....
Looking at David Hemery you would imagine he would struggle with the weight lifting, him and John Conteh put in some great lifts for men of their bodyweight
When Pickering sets the vertical jump for Channon, its about an inch above his finger tips but for the others he puts it against their fingers. Channon might have come third if it had been done fairly.
I remember these days. I saw that the superstars were not wearing protective helmets when playing cricket, cycling, e.t.c. as they would today even if their sponsors permitted it.
The distance between the penalty spot and the goal line looks very short but regardless Peter Shilton, who was possibly the best goalkeeper who ever lived, must have regretted his participation in this.
An English goalkeeper that cannot keep the ball out of the net, especially during a penalty shootout, a persistent problem, some 50-years after this programme was recorded, a solution has not yet been found, presumably the problem will persist beyond- into the future. well done to Shilton for taking part.
Ray Clemence was a better goalkeeper than that lump of lard Shiton. Maradona outjumped him and Breheme’s deflected goal in the 1990 semifinal proves how little spring he didn’t have in his lard like body.
Shilton isn't even top 20 that ever lived. Lev Yashin is the greatest keeper of all time. Even the Welsh keeper Neville Southall was a better keeper than Shilton. Stick to herding sheep Jones.
Cricket?? And Jumping?? Really?? Why was Hemry not allowed to run the 100 metres? Sprinting wasn't his sport... He runs the steeple chase?? Which is his sport?? Duh?? He was allowed to run in a later episode and won! I was looking forward to seeing him run!
it's how humble they all are that I like. damn I love watching these old superstars episodes
David Hemery. Legend from my youth.
Imagine how much it would cost now for sporting legends to compete in superstars...money spoils everything....
John Conteh, one of only two people left from the cover of wing's 'Band On The Run'

Grew up with this show, love it, Brian Jacks, Brian Hooper, John Sherwood, Daley Thompson, David Hemery, Keith Fielding et al. Awesome show. 🌟🌟🌟

Nobody lives eternally on earth
Belief in God or not is your own business
Top class sports stars in a school gym!! Style….😊
I'll always remember David and Ron,nice blokes.

Good sportsmanship from Hemmery to congratulate Conteh like that after the weightlifting
that was brilliant, thank you

Using the starsky and hutch theme !
You can’t help but admire the checked trousers worn by Pickering and Vine - especially with a striped shirt!
Have a look at golfers around 1968 to 1976
That isn't the usual "Superstars" theme tune.....definite elements of "Starsky And Hutch" ,there....!!
David Vine was a brilliant presenter
King colin 💙💙

AMAZING STUFF, No sports star would be allowed to do this in 2018 because of injury, lol.
All sportsmen
David Vine shows why you shouldn't mix checked slacks with striped shirt.
Didn’t know Rodney Trotter ever competed in Superstars😂
Why was Hemery fourth in the pistol shooting. I thought that he had won it
Meet Colin - he's great, he can play football and he's got lovely hair! But... he cant swim.
'Soccer striker...'
Alan Partridge
They shd do one with alan doing the david vine role.

Shilton was a good keeper but hardly the very best ever. In fact his record at saving penalties was poor.

Diego Maradona v best goalkeeper ever 😉

Didn't Malcolm Mc Donald beat David Emery at 100 m 🤔
hemerys dips look lower than contehs...
Yeah, they were a LOT more restrictive on that in later years. Dips had to touch the arbiters fist or weren't counted.
What was the sailor doing there...hahaha
When did women start taking part?

Mark , Hemery was a hurdler not a steeple jump runner.
Instead of using that utterly useless contraption bowling machine simply use a human being to bowl the ball 🤦♂️
I agree, I was a decent left handed opener and I couldn't pick those machines at all
