Yea this is just puting design over functionality Tokyo 2020's had interesting design, clear readability and were actually pictograms, not just design I find these very hit or miss, you either love em, or you hate em
It's like they said "well, we have to animate it" and started from there instead of thinking about people distinguishing them without using half a phone screen.
These put more emphasis on the equipment and field of play than the athletes, which seems antithetical to the point of the Olympics. On top of that, many are hard to decipher without a label. They don't work as pictograms.

This is why they want to use them as blazon on clothes and stuff too
I wish Paris 2024 every success, but this is not a pictogram, just a design. A pictogram is meaningless unless it is a guiding sign that everyone can see. I hope you will reconsider.
I wouldn't even go as far as to say this is design. Design has purpose, it serves a function. The human brain is hardwired to identify human figures with ease. This is the first Olympics that has lost the athletes, who are arguably as important as the sports they play--without them, there wouldn't be an Olympics. Pictograms are there to communicate, their purpose is to relay a message without words. When you lose purpose, you become decoration.
I think these are quite complicated. Yes, they are unique but some of them may seem to be hard to identify. Still prefer 2020, simple, interesting and understandable

Horrendous execution, half of them are indecipherable and that’s while looking at them on a monitor, nevermind in the distance or at an angle. This Olympics should be cancelled. More importantly any athlete that continues to compete and claims to have a moral compass or be Christian should be called out. You cannot be Christian, or frankly any Muslim and Buddhist in good standing, and allow this. This is not in the Olympic spirit nor in the mandate, and this Olympics should be cancelled. This is where athletes should stand in solidarity.
While there are a few weaker ones, overall these pictograms are AWESOME.
