Excellent video and beautiful brand! Thats the magic of seiko, you can start and finish your collection with only 1 brand, a brand with an amazing and full of accomplishment history. Started with a 5kx, then a king samurai and now my daily wear a spb143 (62mas), amazing watch and the accuracy is great if you know the watch positional variance. I can keep it within cosc depending on how i leave it at night, truly is amazing. In a year or two hope to get the new marinemaster SLA077, cant wait to have an 8L35 diver!

Always been a Seiko diver junky since the 70s.. now in a 10 watch collection, 5 are Seiko… they range from an orange Seiko 5 GMT to the black Uemura ltd. I really like this perspective. And I LOVE Seiko. Adore it. My only criticism of Seiko is their marketing. I 100% agree with you that people should look at the brand and go, “wow! I can go from a C Class to an AMG?” Unfortunately I think most people look at it and go, “oh, I can get a Yaris and then a Corolla, then a Land Cruiser…. Then you want me to pay how much for a GX??? But it’s just a Land Cruiser with a facelift…”
I think Rolex/Tudor is a great example of what great marketing can be and what it can do. Tudor is no longer the “poor man’s Rolex.” It’s aspirational from bottom to top. I hope Seiko gets better at Marketing so that more people will enjoy and respect them the way us watch enthusiasts do. In the meantime, more for us 😉

on point, i think that is what most people will do when they're into seiko. I started the rabbit hole 15 years ago with an SRP043 because i could not afford a Sinn. I've stayed in that entry to mid range for a while with skx007, monster, turtles etc. I am financially in a better place now and i could not stop buying MM300s. i currently own 5 of them, going to be 6th soon if the deal comes through next week. So yeah i go through local market places and when i see an SBDX001 / 017 for sale, i will try to make an offer. i also have a couple of darth tunas and a quartz 300 tuna. I prefer the older ones with marinemasters writings and they are such good looking watch. Some would complain about the weight and the height of these watch, but i love it. when i wear it, i know i have a watch on. I have an sbdx001 that i picked up in not so perfect condition, scratches, dings and a couple of strip thread on the crown. had it fully serviced and I wear it as a daily, i dont have to care about it being banged and it still keeps like you've said +- 1 to 3 seconds a day. I started getting really interested in the history of the 6105-8000 and 6105-8110 but then discovered while labeled as divers by Seiko, they didn't have screw down crowns. The modern re-releases do however but this is yet another reason why I find Seiko odd. I could have bought a Black Bay but they are decent but dull.
Springdrive is the best movement in horolgy and this , limited to
500 made , has so much character and is accurate to a few seconds per month . With no beats it hardly needs servicing over my lifetime .
Problem is I have not found a better Diver , so I go for great design . Like the Horizon Nemo, Direnzo or the Titanium Citezin small seconds .

Again, accessibility, at 38.5mm, and for a price I was willing to pay. It's a nice feeling to be able to walk into an authorized dealer, and walk out with the watch you want. My uncle, a scuba and sky diver, has had his Willard on his wrist since 1978. Never serviced. He once brought it to the service center to be checked. In the 21st Century, pretty much all multi-national corporations have given up on offering any consistent parity of price and quality. I've purchased top of the line products which were massively disappointing, and I've purchased entry-level or basic products that have lasted for decades.
It would be great if a TH-camr could get an American marketing executive from Seiko on their channel to answer some questions about some of the questionable decisions Seiko has made in the last several years. Perhaps, there is some rhyme or reason that the peasants are not privy to.
For example: It SEEMS like Seiko has 200 dive watches out at any one time. It's confusing as hell. And while I will agree, I have never had a Seiko watch stop working, A LOT of the Seiko watches that I have seen in the last 10 years or so, appear 'cheap'.........sloppy bezels, tinny stamped clasps, sub-par bracelets, miscellaneous QC issues. Seems impossible to market Seiko as a competitor to higher tier brands, when they have such mediocre/generic products at the lower end. 10+ years ago, a Toyota Corolla was built as solidly as a 4Runner. Somewhat apples and oranges, but THE POINT is that the build quality was similar (enough), whether you were spending $25,000 for a Corolla or $50,000 for a 4Runner.
Most people would not spend +$2,000 on Seiko. I don't have a problem with it. I would buy the $3,000 (black dial) SLA021 TODAY if it had, "Marinemaster" on it instead of that Prospex logo. There are too many micro brands out there nowadays that ARE building very solidly built watches, for Seiko to get complacent.
Another example is the Prospex "X" logo. That X logo is on $800 Seiko divers AND The Marinemaster. I do not work in marketing or advertising, so it SEEMS asinine to me. That would be like Mercedes Benz slapping the AMG badge on their entry-level class series. IT CHEAPENS THE BRAND. "If every Mercedes is an AMG, then AMG means NOTHING." Initially, I thought it was some type of copyright infringement issue with another watch company............but THEN, they put Marinemaster back on the dial of newer releases. Seiko is all over the place.

I've owned multiple Seikos over the years, I'm familiar with their history as well as their current catalog. I still wear a Seiko watch as my daily. I love their design, and appreciate every era of their watchmaking. Except this one. They are turning into crap, both in terms of watches as well as movements. They don't care about quality control and they cannot read the market to save their life. They are easily the worst big name company in the industry right now. There are multiple reasons for that. Nothing lasts forever, including reputation.

Seiko should first stop producing bad QC watches. Chinese manufactured micro brands and AliExpress brands are shaming them. I'm still happy with my Alpinist but that's the last I've purchased after so many misaligned divers I had. I respect their movements that are used by many micro brands. Maybe a better strategy for them is to leave the low end watch market and compete on mid-tier to luxury segment.
