Here in the states not to long ago... if you built and then maintained a structure for a period of a year, you could then homestead that structure and the small acreage around it. As far as i know you can still do this in parts of Alaska.

well, my only reason for going back to work now is to buy one of these tipi’s, 18 and saying fuck it sorta and have to ditch this at home life, was trying to figure out what i want for a tent and i really think the one matt was using is the one possibly, love that they gave it a proper review, only found out about matt 4 hours ago on some survival show and quickly looked for his channel. glad i found it and excited to explore a little more of it, seen the spear throwing and i think that would be way more interesting than using a rifle, just would need to know a quick way to make it not suffer. excited to work towards this tipi. matt you’re a pretty cool dude

I did notice that you carry your knife inline with your back and would like to let you know how bad an idea that is if you were to fall back on it accidentally you could damage your back and trust me a man with a bad back you don't want that. I would like to live free like you are it has been alive long desire of mine I just haven't been brave enough to just do it always have family discouraging me from that lifestyle maybe someday. hey Matt I couldn't find another way to contact you but you've mentioned the Pacific Northwest in at least one video and if my memory serves me right you have spent some time filming in the area. Anyways I live in that general area and have spent most of my life studying primitive skills from various mentors. However one thing I have thought and experimented with for a while now is long term shelters. Because of rain a outhouse would be pretty impractical and a native style plankhouse seems impractical with today's ecological situation not to mention the extreme and hard to find skill of building such a structure. I've reached out to a couple now including Mick Dodge who did a workshop in my area and I had the opportunity to learn quite a bit from. sorry this kind of rambled on but essentially I'm wondering if you have any ideas. thanks man!

He's looking for a local mountain man to mentor him in our area, but no luck so far. We have 214 acres in Southern Oregon which you are welcome to come visit anytime you wish. It's high desert ponderosa pine near Lakeview, OR. We don't currently live there full time, as there aren't many jobs in the area (5 kids). Slowly we are building an off grid homestead and we'll live there someday. We live in Cottage Grove, Oregon for now. (we call it our town home). We spend much of our summers up in the hills at our property, running around living life to the fullest in the wilds, which we never want to end. Have you ever thought about doing an apprentice program? I know you probably don't spend a lot of time on the internet, but my son would love to hear from you, or try to meet with you to take classes at any gathering where you may be teaching. If you are ever planning a trip through Oregon, please find us, and you and Sara will always have a place to stay. We have a small house, but it's always full of fun. Or in the summer in Lakeview OR we have lots of room to run around and play.
