Fun story. When my youngest daughter was 11 or 12, she learned about the Atlatl in school. She was fascinated with the concept and gave me a detailed lesson about it when she got home. So that weekend I took her to a weapons museum where she got to see an actual old atlatl in person. So we did the obvious thing. We spent the rest of the weekend crafting one from a piece of cedar I was saving for another project. And then the next week it was clay pot batteries...
Hello Sir, I'm so pleased to have found you! I was reading about Roman archaeology and I discovered the word 'atlatl' so I googled its'meaning and pronunciation, so that lead me to you! I'm a 48 year old Irish lady but in my dreams, I want to be like Crocodile Dundee and a survivalist!!! I'd love to learn how to survive in the wild by cooking, making shelters etc it all fascinates me.
Hey Matt you are definitely my favorite survivalist on Dual Survival, Dude your Screwed, and TH-cam! You are and will always be an inspiration to me! Keep up the amazing work!!
Matt I've loved watching your stuff since the minute you hit the screen. Thanks for taking me on adventures when I can't get out there myself. Many more trail miles to you bud!
Every video I see with you in it, it makes me smile! You truly are some one I look up to! I learn so much from everything you show with weapon! Thanks for being you because your a pretty good dude! I'm sure alot of people will agree with me! Keep up the videos. Cheers, Jerbs.
Thank you! This is great! Teaching my students on primitive peoples and wanted them to have an understanding of the atlatl in use and bring it off the page! This is awesome!!
Best thing about Matt is his is very kind and informative without the knowitall persona most survivalist come out as. Very humble and genuine person. Thanks Matt for your imprint you leave on the world as a whole.
Monty Bigbore I built a spear thrower on my new TH-cam channel and it was insane!!!! You gotta check it out! And let me know ideas for my next build! I would love to make it!

I would love to learn primitive hunting and survival skills I have always been very interested in learning those skills but I have not found anyone in my area to learn from. Everyone around me thinks I am crazy and that it is a waist of time but I think it is a great skill to have.
Why not teach yourself? That way when you come across someone more experienced, you won’t be a novice, and they will be more likely to stick around because they will feel as if they are helping a fellow survivalist vs holding someone’s hand. There’s a lot of great survival books out there. Just from reading and actually actively testing the knowledge you read, you’ll be surprised what you are capable of. Make sure to not only read it but DO it as well. Even if it’s in your yard. First time I successfully made a friction fire was one of the best feelings. Now it takes me 30-40 minutes at best to find supplies and actually get my fire going. I have also practiced trapping, as well as shelter building, right in my very own back yard. You know what the man him self would say “what are you waiting for? I’m teaching you every time you watch” I’m not giving up on humanity just yet, but I do feel confident that I could survive long enough in the wild to get myself established to the point of actually thriving. Who cares what your friends think. Wait till they see you and your kids constructing a wikiup in your back yard.(we mostly just got a few smiles )lol

Been seeing this device mentioned and finally remembered to look it up while near my pc. Thanks much for your effort to demonstrate it. As mentioned previously, your upbeat and positive demeanor are very enjoyable. Thankyasir! d:^)
I honestly have never seen one of these until today, and it is an amazing tool! Great video, and you are most definately an encouragement to people who realize the importance of being kind and respectful, and keeping yourself equipped, and able to harvest game, no matter what the world situation is. Also, have you done any fishing with one, it seems like it would be great for that.
Just found your channel Matt. I was searching for the atlatl from a movie I was watching and you popped up. Enjoyed the video, I'd enjoy learning how to make and throw one.
Thanks this was helpful. I was reading Brotherband and there is someone who uses and atlatl to hunt, this helped me visualize it a lot better, I thought it was much smaller.
I just got my first atlatl. I didnt make it, but it'll be good to learn with and is fun to throw. Thanks for the tips Matt! You are awesome. I will try not to lob mine anymore, and will adjust my throwing technique.
I work at a museum in Nevada, and in a couple of weeks we will be demonstrating this technology and letting kids throw darts at a standup target. Thank you, Matt for giving a very concise and interesting description of this ancient hunting tool.
I just made my first atlatl today!! It needs some fine tuning and I need to add feathers to my arrow, but it works! I love it! I feel my wild spirit with every throw
Good job Matt I'm not very good Hunter but I hunt with black powder a bow and arrow Adam I just started it watching you thank you for the tips good job.
