I have always liked Biorbs. People dislike them because they aren't designed to be crammed with fish. They are an ornament you can put a few fish in. Great video

I have had a 4 gallon baby biOrb set up in my kitchen since 2017. The temp. in my home never drops below 72, even in the winter, so no heater. The filter is basically just an air pump driven sponge filter so I do not buy the biOrb filter replacement kits, I cut my own sponge when needed. I have some low light plants - java fern and anubias. And I keep 9 harlequin rasboras. How that number came to be is another story entirely but it's worked for 3 years and if it ain't broke don't fix it. I feed frozen bloodworms and frozen mysis shrimp and change about 80% of the water a few times per month. I also added 2 more bags of the biOrb substrate, which probably helps as well. I just love the tank. By all the rules it shouldn't be a success but it is.

In future builds, you could consider adding the heater from the start. The warmer water speeds up the bacteria colonisation which speeds up your cycle.

  • @JinxDClown

Do I understand correctly that in order to have this tank heated, I have to run a heater into just like any other tank (ie, the cord running up, into and down the tank wall)? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the tank being all transparent???? Why couldn't the have incorporated a heated in where the filter is?

I was given a Biorb cylinder as a gift, and was pleasantly surprised that the light was more than sufficient to grow anubias and java fern. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

@@SimplyShrimps I have one tank since a few weeks that runs well, given I bought all ADA and Dennerle required chemicals, Bactor and conditioners and went for Invitro plants only, expensive, but crucial... And now I have a Golden Snakehead in that with a few disposable fish, a few platy and tetra to notify me if I need to do changes etc etc... You know, fish can die eh... Have bacteria, poop, etc, 😂 😂 😂 😂, so I disagree with running a tank for weeks with no life in it hoping for it to be a healthy space, some fish added from early days, to be disposed of, would be wiser to fasten the process and I feed the snakehead live shrimps every other day, sometimes smallest fish too... I know, cruel but that is nature... So these bloody Mary shrimps will be delivered tomorrow but I rather keep then and add them to my Iwagumi setup tank I m working on... I just filled up an old 2d hand tank, heater on 25°C, filter and pomp (old) running, added all chemicals, just a few drops, no more and will, like you, buy some plants at my local gardencenter and moss balls and add them to the tank, hoping they will survive for at least 10 days before the luxurious penthouse is ready for them..

Looking to do the same, is it all available online? Any links?
I’m new to this fish lark and wanted the tank heated, can you show how the heater goes in pleas.
Also seen that these setup don’t need cleaning for 6-8 weeks is that correct?
Looking at getting some neon tetra and guppy’s.

You should have washed the ceramic media to get rid of the dust and other smaller particles. This would have ensured the filer doesn’t block so quickly and the water is clearer.
