Exactly the same for me! I saw this as a really young child and it stuck with me. Searched for it for ages. My favourite Paul Daniels magic trick ever!
Same! I was only 9 or 10 when I first saw this and the memory stayed with me but, even in the 21st century I couldn’t find it. Finally found it a few years ago and was reminded today to look for it again. Great trick by someone at the peak of their craft.
"No Stooging"-- there's the rub. Wouldn't any trick using stooges be advertised as having been done without stooges? I suppose the selected audience members could have been chosen e.g. based on what drinks they had been yelling out in the audience, but plants would be much safer.
Paul asked me to make a note of the "No Stooges" thing because back in 1979 when the first version aired he was accused by the Magician community for using stooges (a big no no) because the effect was so incredible. I can guarantee no stooging was used, as it would ruin the effect. I also perform a version of this trick, stooging is not only not required, it's less efficient.
This plays great but the reliance on stooges, the drinks are largely just coloured water not real, takes the edge off it. The complex way the kettle produces so much water is real magic though.
I remember seeing this trick as a child it's my favourite trick ever. I've been telling people about it after Paul died so glad to find it thank you
