The power of science and probabilities! The great part is how Derren actually narrates his way of thinking when he decides which hand he thinks they'll put their hands over.
To explain how he got most of us to think of the shapes is actually really simple. He tells us to think of two basic shapes, what people fail to realise however is that there are really only three basic shapes, that being square, circle, and triangle. Simply by saying "square" our minds eliminates square going to the next shape it can think of, that being one of the other two shapes. The colors are a bit more complex, however similar to the shapes. The colors are printed into pur mind by having those colors placed right in front of us. The first two colors that most people would tend to think of are Red and Blue simply because there the two most popular colors. Blue is the most prominate color shown to us because of the blue sky in the background. Because of this, our minds will eliminate the color blue leaving us with the color Red. There are no prominate Red's in the video so that is why it stays with us. However, this effect can work in reverse as well. We can imprint something else in your mind instead of eliminating something from your mind by simply hinting at a particular thing. That being said, if you look in the background, you'll notice a hint of green from the trees and bushes , imprinting the color green In our minds. And to make everything seem a bit more connected, he tells you to "Put the shapes together" not saying specifically how it should look afterward. He even says to think of two colors for the two shapes, but does not say which color should be associated with either shape. This makes it seem like everything is connected, when really, he's just giving us four different things to think about.

I saw him do the triangle/circle thing with his hands and intentionally avoided it but my brain still screamed those shapes at me. I forced myself to do a pentagon inside a hexagon but knew he was gonna say circle inside triangle. He did get the colors right though. I thought it was going to be a guess of red/blue so I threw in green to switch it up. Not sure how he got those. Impressive!

i did the first one, the guessing, with rock papers scissors against my high school friend. won like 7 times in a row before he finally formulated a reliable method of randomly guessing idk like Eeny, meeny, miny, moe or something similiar. arstechnica.com/science/2014/05/win-at-rock-paper-scissors-by-knowing-thy-opponent/ it's been studied, but i didn't follow the studies i just kindof played against what i would've played my friend next. first one is easy, no one knows a polygon past a square, and he made sure you couldn't pick square. colors, probably the same technique. hands? the kid couldn't wash himself properly so he could literally smell the dogs ^_^ other things probably include something similar to his hands feeling rough or something like that.
He also has to have a very extensive knowledge of animal fur. I say "fur" rather than "smell" because I just watched another video where he correctly stated that a woman had two cats of unusual color, and he never touched her. I'm betting he saw cat hair on her dark clothes. Then he ran both his hands all over the last guy's hand, trying to pick up some fur that might have been on the guy's clothes. When he put his hands to his nose afterwards and took a deep sniff, that was to throw us off and to make us think he knew a terrier by its smell. I think he knew it by the fur color and texture.
2:51 is the fantastic Ahhh.. ever.. Great darren. Hope you still doing series shows in tv Or i hope you would want to upload atleast weekly on youtube... About your latest and amazing, simple to complicated psychological illussions.
After Seeing Derren's previous shows and how he influences with subtle object placement I was looking around but all I could see were his Red and Green coat cufflinks.
In the beginning test, if you look again he suggested those shapes with his hands while talking, sending a subliminal message. Not sure on the colours but I do know when asked to think of a colour and a tool most people say red spade so maybe red (and green) are just the colours that generally spring to mind first. It was on an episode of brain training (you can find these on TH-cam and there's some fascinating stuff about how the brain works and can be tricked on there)
Did someone order a party-pooper? Are you guys saying that the colours he sees as black and white, are actually red and green in reality, due to his colour blindness? So that would be Monochromacy... except red and green wouldn't translate to black and white.. they would both be a shade of grey. If you're lenient, then you could make a really light shade of green and a dark red be close enough I suppose.. but still grey.
Fake. There is no need for an official. They put him in a lab coat and gave him a clip board on purpose. We view him as elite but he is positioned perfectly in view of Derren so he can give a subtle gesture as to if its left or right. Derren missed that one guy on purpose. Before he looked him up on facebook and learned a few things about him. Just shows how easily the human mind can be manipulated.
The shape trick didn't work on me but haha have a look at his cufflink colours. . . Red and Green and notice what shapes he is making with his hands. . . triangle and circle. Hidden in plain sight👏
Shapes were right, because once you mention square, there are only two basic shapes anyone is gonna think of. As for colors, I imagine red and blue as the most common ones, but given someone would want to change it up, they'd likely change blue more likely than red. Nice thought
I thought about a green three edged pyramid inside a red sphere, but I think I know why you would make the guess that you did. Your confident execution is really good.
Purple and orange. rectangle and octogon. The power of suggestion. Also, if the person is quite warm you can feel the heat coming off their body. Or feel their movement when they place their hands above yours. Suggesting to them one or the other is a neat 'trick' if not a simple one. If they were to go in one at a time to a room without seeing the person before them choose perhaps it would have been different?
Isn't the obvious solution just that the doctor in peripheral vision is in on it? Could easily just send small visual cues to indicate anything. Minute facial gestures, body movements, or pen movements in certain direction etc. If not why the hell would they put him in his field of view or even give him any direct auditory or visual access to him? How convenient we only see the eye that is facing away from the researcher in his peripheral which is probably open LOL. His feedback should just be a green or red light to tell him if he was wrong or right. Obvious as hell.
Surely this hand test would be easy to determine which hand they are placing their hand over. Initially giving the statistic would engage about 60 %- 65% with a sense of determination therefore their hands would increase in temperature (That would not be the only reason for the increase in temperature) All the "Healer" has to do is concentrate and feel for which hand senses the heat.
I can prove my "theory" is correct as at 3:35 Derren asks the participant of the experiment to place his hands closer to ensure accuracy as to not ruin his foreseen skill.
Simple geometric shapes. There's really only triangle, circle, square. Rectangle is out as it's too obnoxious a word. Don't think of Square, so you're only left with Triangle and circle. When he raises his hands, he has on red and green cuff links.
Just as a guess before you reveal the answer to your first question: You said to think of a simple shape, "like a square". When squares are mentioned, our minds go to other simple shapes that are often paired up with squares, like circles and triangles. You also asked us to think of two colors. Since we already have the expectation of simple shapes, we think of simple colors, in my case red and yellow, but green is also a simple color. When we place one shape inside of another, a circle is more likely to end up inside of a triangle because of pop culture symbols of triangles of circles, in my case the sign of the deathly hallows. Now let's see how much I got right.
The key to the trick is getting them to say "ready" typically people look towards where their hand i meaning that the sound of their voice is comes from the left or right side depening on where they placed their hand.
The shape and color thing at the beginning was a little silly but his understanding and reading techniques are insane. And his memory is 99%tile. He knows and retains so much... I wish the average human was like Derren, so we could get super Derrens 😂. Maybe the brain will evolve slowly to the telepathic state in a few million years, let’s just hope smart people breed with smart people and push their brains to the max. I don’t know where I’m going with this haha....
I think this may be done by a trigger in the left & right holes which is controlled by an accomplice letting Derren know which hand the test subject decides.
i thought of a square and triangle but then he said not a square and i panicked and couldn’t think of another shape

A hectagon is definitely a shape. There's also no real definition of a simple shape, although it might refer to a regular polytope.
I personally thought of a cube and a sphere.
@@lily_littleangel ah, they only said "shape" but we mentally associate the word "shape" as "two-dimensional geometric structures"
I did the exact same
0:08 When he says put one inside the other. His hands are making a circle in a triangle.
I thought of those shapes, but red and blue
Watching enough Derren Brown, I can safely say he got that one dude wrong on purpose because he had already researched the man's background and all the info he pulled up at the end, he could've gotten all 10 out of 10 but that wouldn't have been as entertaining.
Already researched sure but how does he even know which one he is without looking at them
@@bryanmarty7085 he put them in number and remembered it.
Doesn't that prove exactly what psychics do? So he is right then? Lol
I thought of a rectangle in a triangle with yellow and orange .. :D
I feel like I have this to a degree.. Picking up patterns is how you pass tests.. This sounded exactly like that conversation I'd have in my head for any standardized test.. Worked in college too. Don't have a name for it but really interesting to see it. Subbed 👍
I thought the same thing
Horray … these guys will all be visiting the hospitals and curing all the sick children. Let us know the date please? I’d love to see the “miracle” in a completely neutral environment - no hidden microphones, no hidden cameras, no people in the background pulling details from social media accounts. I’m sorry to say that these kids don’t have any money, but being a moral person with gifts from God you won’t have a problem going and healing those kids. again please let me know the date I’m excited to see this
I got exactly the same, I even thought "I'm going to change it so he can't guess it"!
Omg… I past out…I thought triangle and circle with red. No way. I got freaking chills….😳😳😳😳😳
Impressive!
i about had a heart attack at the beginning
He guessed what shapes/colors I thought of spot on
Derren Brown has a wery charming smile🤩i love this guy.
he's wearing red and green cufflinks.
no shit he shows you
Regarding the shapes at the beginning consider that when you hit play on a video via youtube the youtube symbol A TRIANGLE INSIDE A CIRCLE appear in the center of the video indicating you hit play.
As far as colors, that portion of the video is very gray and if you look over the entire scene the only real colors you will see are the bright green trees behind him.
it would be a better show if he actually talk you through how he did it afterwards.... more like Penn and Teller
Yeah, that’s why I don’t like it. Although I notice some of his tricks and how he does them. Then there’s this chump 4:42
i did the first one, the guessing, with rock papers scissors against my high school friend. won like 7 times in a row before he finally formulated a reliable method of randomly guessing idk like Eeny, meeny, miny, moe or something similiar.
arstechnica.com/science/2014/05/win-at-rock-paper-scissors-by-knowing-thy-opponent/
it's been studied, but i didn't follow the studies i just kindof played against what i would've played my friend next.
first one is easy, no one knows a polygon past a square, and he made sure you couldn't pick square. colors, probably the same technique. hands? the kid couldn't wash himself properly so he could literally smell the dogs ^_^ other things probably include something similar to his hands feeling rough or something like that.
he also included a visual que of 1 side of a triangle, and a circle, but this was completly unnecessary.
He explains it as he goes using psychology to estimate which hand they would go for.
@@danielflanard8274 he never explains anything. Everything he says is part of the trick. He is a magician and the real answer won't be revealed here.
This guy would win any rock paper scissors
I just think he's damn good with predictions, manipulation, and cold reading
He also has to have a very extensive knowledge of animal fur. I say "fur" rather than "smell" because I just watched another video where he correctly stated that a woman had two cats of unusual color, and he never touched her. I'm betting he saw cat hair on her dark clothes. Then he ran both his hands all over the last guy's hand, trying to pick up some fur that might have been on the guy's clothes. When he put his hands to his nose afterwards and took a deep sniff, that was to throw us off and to make us think he knew a terrier by its smell. I think he knew it by the fur color and texture.
He’s essentially using the psychology behind Rock Paper Scissors based on what they previously did.
I’m too extra I thought decagon, nonagon, teal and purple 🤷🏼♀️😂
Ailsa Herondale I don’t think he’ll be reading your mind any time soon haha
Evanz111 Thank God I’m safe 🙏🏻😂
Him: I use science
The dude at the end: it's magic!
I had a trapezium in a dodecahedran, unlucky mate
LAWL he said testes. Even the caption picked it up like that
Pentagon, hexagon. Purple, blue. Slightly off 😂
They are not simple shapes dumbass.
2:51 is the fantastic
Ahhh.. ever..
Great darren.
Hope you still doing series shows in tv
Or i hope you would want to upload atleast weekly on youtube...
About your latest and amazing, simple to complicated psychological illussions.
That Silence of the Lambs reference, tho
I got an ad for psychic advisors before this vid hahaha
of course, he can feel the heat from the hand above he hand there is really no way he could b wrong apart from someone who has very cold hands
"So my testers become my testes".... Ah well, they must have signed the waiver.
Circle and triangle that were green and blue
That took some big balls to refer to his testers as testies
Lol no hexagon and triangle mate
Nathan Looke congratulations. Want a trophy?
Y do u say mate, ha like u know him.
That's why it's funny, just some dude guessing shapes isn't he.
Same
he got triangle right and a hexagon is similar to a circle (is rounded but not perfectly) so i’d say he was close
Haha appreciated the Silence of the Lambs reference
I would love to see Joe power try and perform this experiment. He would fail miserably.
I thought of a circle and a square blue and orange 😂😂🧡💙
He almost had me he guessed same shapes but not same colors
After Seeing Derren's previous shows and how he influences with subtle object placement I was looking around but all I could see were his Red and Green coat cufflinks.
Wow that’s observant. I didn’t see the cuff links.
Mine was triangle and circle but the colours was red and purple
same haha
zachary lawrence you know why it was triangle in circle? Look at his hands 0:08
Colour blind?
In the beginning test, if you look again he suggested those shapes with his hands while talking, sending a subliminal message.
Not sure on the colours but I do know when asked to think of a colour and a tool most people say red spade so maybe red (and green) are just the colours that generally spring to mind first. It was on an episode of brain training (you can find these on TH-cam and there's some fascinating stuff about how the brain works and can be tricked on there)
Oh mine was a triangle in a rectangle. that was black and white XD
plot twist....you're colorblind
plot twist.. black and white aren't colours? (I won't call the police though).
Unyt you’re color blind right?
Did someone order a party-pooper?
Are you guys saying that the colours he sees as black and white, are actually red and green in reality, due to his colour blindness?
So that would be Monochromacy... except red and green wouldn't translate to black and white.. they would both be a shade of grey.
If you're lenient, then you could make a really light shade of green and a dark red be close enough I suppose.. but still grey.
Not even 30 seconds in and my mind is already blown...
And what proof do you have for this bullshit explanation? None I bet.
Fucking intelligent ur the man
literaly Sherlock Holmes
i had hexagon and triangle and red and yellow
Hexagon and circle here. Same colour.
Colours
The shape trick didn't work on me but haha have a look at his cufflink colours. . . Red and Green and notice what shapes he is making with his hands. . . triangle and circle. Hidden in plain sight👏
Blue and Red you clown
When he smelled the guys ✋ ... I thought he was going to say balls!😂😂😂😂😂🙊
Mine was Triangle in Octogon and purple and Yellow. Also When he said "Testees" it's a homphone for "Testies"
When he started smelling his hands I was slime "shit, I smell shit.... You pooped your pants! Am I correct?"
0:43 I know super immature but his testers become his testis 😂
Shapes were right, because once you mention square, there are only two basic shapes anyone is gonna think of. As for colors, I imagine red and blue as the most common ones, but given someone would want to change it up, they'd likely change blue more likely than red. Nice thought
He suggests those shapes with his hands when he asks people to think of two shapes, and his cuffs suggests those colors.
RED AND YELLOW AND ITS COMMON SHAPES THAT ARE EASY AND THE COLORS ARE RELATED TO LIKE KIDS TOYS BRIGHT
Saem
I can prove my "theory" is correct as at 3:35 Derren asks the participant of the experiment to place his hands closer to ensure accuracy as to not ruin his foreseen skill.
lol i thought about a trapezohedron and a Cone inside with the colours ultraviolet and green... nicely done derren
Dang, no answer.
Haha I thought of rectangle and circle and color was brown 😂😂
The key to the trick is getting them to say "ready" typically people look towards where their hand i meaning that the sound of their voice is comes from the left or right side depening on where they placed their hand.
I thought of the same shapes but I didn’t even see his cuffs at first
The hand thing at start, if they're high power bulbs like hps for stage lighting could be warm , so when hand covers his the shadow is cold
I don’t know where I’m going with this haha....
i got circle and cube cause i saw you doing a stright line, correct colours tho, nice
I think this may be done by a trigger in the left & right holes which is controlled by an accomplice letting Derren know which hand the test subject decides.
Star and diamond, yellow and purple... Favourite two shapes.
It’s just patterns and human behavior and learning to recognize both in a short span of time and manipulate the odds in your favor using it
Heating lamp above his hands... When person covers his hand, he can sense the lack of heat
*Aggressively sniffs*
You’ve got Dogs. 3.
I thought of a pentagonal star with a pentagon in the middle of in in yellow and black. I am impressed.
the videos finished and im still trying to think of a geometrical shape.
