In 1996, Lotus launched the Esprit V8. The car came equipped with Lotus' own Type 918 V8 engine. The engine is an all-aluminium 90° DOHC 4 valves per cylinder with a flat-plane crankshaft and two Garrett T25/60 turbochargers but with no Chargecooler. The transaxle used was the same Renault unit as before but upgraded by Lotus. Despite having a modified transaxle, the Type 918 engine was detuned from a potential 507 PS (373 kW; 500 hp) to 355 PS (261 kW; 350 hp) to prevent gearbox damage.[38] In period tests, acceleration from 0-97 km/h (60 mph) was achieved in 4.1 seconds, with a 402 m (1⁄4 mile) of 12.7s at 180 km/h (112 mph).[39] Top speed is over 282 km/h (175 mph).[40][41
I tought the V8 3.5L was provided by Toyota ? But my favorite is the 1992 Esprit Colin Chapman edition with inline 4 Cosworth with 215hp and British racing green .

@@Vincent-mu2rb i tought Lotus never had the finance to create they own engine . So that one of few engines they made. I like the V8 but the Lotus-Ford engines are the real essence of Lotus and the sound you feel in th car is phenomenal.

@@Vincent-mu2rb except one lotus esprit V8 . A saw one 2001 Esprit V8 with a detuned Toyota V8 from a JGTC Supra for sale at John Scotti's auto in Montreal. They are an authorized dealer for Lotus and Lamborghini in Montreal and in the specs that was written all original. Probably that Esprit was a factory custom built but damn that car had at least 600rwhp . That car was for sale in 2006 . That why i tought the Esprit V8 was equipped with Toyota engines .

2:52 considering Ford and Lotus have collaborated on several projects in the past, such as the Cortina and some of their F1 cars, the Ford V8 engine would make sense if Ford and Lotus are still partners. Would have been cool to see the 3.5 liter twin turbo V8 from the 2002 Esprit too.

Essex Turbos were in the blue scheme, correct, but a small number of thr 45 were built to full Essex spec but made in more conventional color scheme cause some people didnt like the essex color scheme. A Red Essex was also used in the James Bond; For Your Eyes Only

Yes dude the xiege and most other lotuses built on Elise style used a 2.xL Toyota engine rebuilt by lotus to fit their philosophy
There were serval versions of the espirit with v8s from the factory, small v8s but v8s none the less
Wait until you find out that Pagani Zonda, Saleen S7 and Diablo GTR tail lights are literal agricultural equipement tail lights. Or that Jaguar XJ220 tail lights are from Rover 200. Diablo's headlights are from Nissan 300 ZX. McLaren F1 uses coach bus tail lights.
