    In part 2 of our trip to Mallacoota, we take you to meet all kinds of wonderful and unique wildlife that lives in East Gippsland.
    Firstly, that blood moon the night before obviously caused us to flip out as we ran out the next day & rented a boat! Neither of us had a clue how to drive it but after 5 minutes of instructions from the owner, we were off onto the open water without a plan! We figured out quickly how to drive it but no idea how to dock it, so we just drove around in circles enjoying the natural environment until we bumped into a pair of Sea Eagles! To our surprise, we also saw their nest way up a tree in the bush… and there was a juvenile eagle in there too!
    After the excitement of our boat trip, we took off for a walk to find Scarlet Honeyeaters. To our surprise, we found them! And one little birdie put on a pretty good show too. The kangaroos were pretty keen on that walk too as we met up with a few nibbling on the lush grass. They were surprised to see us as much as we were of them so we all just waved hello to each other & kept our distances.
    Our week away was pretty much boom boom boom when it came to wildlife! We saw Koalas (which was so exciting as we hadn’t seen a wild Koala in years so great to see them doing well in the area after the fires). We had a close encounter with a Lace Monitor. Wow!! What a lizard!! Then there was the Azure Kingfisher & the Eastern Reef Egret… just superb!!! And the pristine beaches! What a place!
    We hope you enjoy this video as much as we did filming it!

      Thanks so much Fritz! ❤ That means so much! I'm hoping that there's a constant improvement along the way. We often miss filming loads of stuff and forget to talk to the camera but, in the end, it all seems to come together 🙂

    Just the other day, I saw a video about people photographing a little crow in Mildura and I'm so glad I decided to click and watch. Your videos are fabulous. Your enthusiasm for wildlife is infectious and I love the mix of video and photos of the beautiful birds and animals you encounter. Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures.

    Your videos are great! Great quality and finally some new species on the screen 😍As a nature and bird lover I think most of the videos are again and again about a few species. Finally a source where I can see much more. Thank you for that! 😊

      Thanks so much Judit! We want to include every animal we see as they are all fascinating!! We could just stick to birds but that limits all the amazing footage we get so I'm glad that you enjoy it as we love seeing and appreciating all creatures. 🙂

    Great sightings folks! We are planning a trip to Mallacoota this coming Easter (2024). Can I ask where , exactly, in Mallacoota you saw the scarlet honeyeater and azure kingfisher? (We also pan on getting out on the water for the white-bellied sea eagles.) Thanks.Craig

      It's such a beautiful area to visit, That year we saw the Scarlet Honeyeater at Gipsy Point on a walk called "the point". Watch out for snakes as it was a bit overgrown. The spot we saw the Kingfisher that year was the pumping station track in Mallacoota. We didn't see any there in Nov 2023 though. Great walk anyway for koalas & lots of other birds. 😀 ~ Karen

    Do you have to have a license to drive this motorboat? Looks fun. 👍

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, we didn't need a license at all. We hired what was called a "slow boat" 😄 which was all we needed. Two gears - forward & reverse! After our initial cluelessness, we were having fun! It was the docking that was a bit difficult to get used to.... oh & knowing where you were!! We had a hard copy map but it blew overboard! haha!! Lucky we could then see where we were going on our phones otherwise we might still be out there! 🤣

    Back for another comment : Lace Monitor is such an interesting name 🤔 as a not native english speaker I didn't even think that could be an animal 😄🤷

    You two have cost me a lot of $$. Sony A7R iv, Sony 24-70 G lens, Sony 70-200 G lens, adapter to take my 70-400 G lens (A Frame), and yesterday Sony 200-600 lens.
    Great pics again. Keep up the good work. I hope I can get results like you are getting.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow!! That is quite the kit you've got going on there now! I'd love to see your photos (do you photograph wildlife??). That 200-600mm lens is fabulous... big but smooth to use! I liked how it had the internal zoom so very easy to move. When we were first looking at cameras (as we had no idea!!) we had that lens for 24 hours but we tried to pair it with an Sony crop A6600 which wasn't going to work and we didn't have the money to buy the good Sony cameras so we returned it all. But.... in future, if I had the money.... I'd definitely consider getting a kit like you've got now. 🙂

      @@naturephotographychallenge Wildlife is my aim., BUT I have serious health issues, as nearly 80 now, and cannot walk far. Will use a mobility scooter where I can, but my ability to get to many bird realms will be limited indeed.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samsabastian5560 That does make it difficult for sure. I hope you are near some nice places you can access on a scooter?? And hopefully friends & family take you out for some day trips? I'd love to see your wildlife photos once you get going with that mighty lens!! 🙂
