    Hi everyone, I’m the fortunate owner of the stag. You are all quite correct in noticing how hard Matt worked and I send my personal thanks to him and to you out there who have commented on the car

      I can appreciate how hard he worked, but you need to replace that paint before it damages your metal. If you strip that, you'll find rust all over the place. It spreads as fine surface rust all over the place. Poof, one day you notice bubbles and other degradation's.
      Find a really good resto guy and get that thing carefully stripped and refinished. Inside out, upside down and backwards.
      Good restorers will allow you to make monthly payments on a per work progress basis.
      You usually find the best restorers are back woods shops nobody ever heard of.

      I bought a stag last sunday. With the same coulour. I am thinking about I don't know the english word, in german it is called "aufbereiten". So the thing you did with this stag. But I am a little bit afraid about rust and I don't know if the softtop is really "dicht ".
      My mechanic said, don't ride it in the rain, but you use water, too? :-) So you know what I mean?
      You did a fantastic job.
      I was with my normal car at a "Aufbereiter" im Brilon, where I live. He did a fantastic job, with this car, so I think I will go and talk to him about my stag...
      Wish you all the best..

      I know what you mean. It's been years since I had a car more than 15-20 years old, and seems even longer since I had to deal with paintwork in the state that this bonnet was in!

    • @TheDetailingSpace
      @TheDetailingSpace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I said several times, I always used a rotary for this kind of work, but knowing how thin the paint was in some areas, it was safer to hit with the DA - even if it did mean spending an entire afternoon just to figure out the right combo.

    Polishing that mess without wet sanding is a waste of time and probably not even wet sanding is going to save it. The metal under that paint is going to have spreading rust and one day will have bubbles and holes. It should be stripped entirely and repainted BEFORE there is more damage.

    Looks amazing.. One of my favourite cars when I was at school in the 70's..
    Please could you answer a question..
    I have great paintwork on my car but a few small marks that will not shift so going to clay bar/mitt to see if that moves it.. I think they are old bug splats.. the question is.. Do I need to compound after clay bar or can I just use a polish then wax?
    Thanks in advance. 😁

    • @TheDetailingSpace
      @TheDetailingSpace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends if claying sorts it. If not, then yes, give it a light polish before hitting it with anything heavier. Then once finished, wax it.
